Trial matches and. NRL games are two very different things.
Every teams.on equal points at round 1. (2)... It's not like 4 weeks to go and seasons long gone yeah give a promising kid a taste of NRL for 10 or 20 mins a game re' TDS last year.
Standouts in trial games... When the opposition is often giving their youngsters a run too
... That's hardly an accurate gauge when the kids never played against men before

What benji tells the squad and the media/punters would be two different things also

I get what you’re saying but think you are looking far too much into Benji’s words. Remember we have Sezar, Bud, Fainu, AD as well. Benji isn’t intentionally talking about them. So based on just taking the comments they are no chance which we all know isn’t the case. I think his words are used to keep everyone on point and to take pressure off the halves in general to start the year.

Rua impressed in the trials and wasn’t close to NRL ready. The Trials are trials, teams on both side don’t go full in, never have. I never look too much into trial form ever as it very rarely translates to the NRL season. It’s great for kids to impress and get on the radar but that’s it.

If Benji is using the trials to lock in key positions we are stuffed. Benji surely would know the spine he intends to start the season already by now.

Time will tell if you’re right. I think if he starts the year it will only be because we have an injury/suspension to 2 of Fainu, Bud & Sezer. Smokey off the bench maybe as utility value could be of interest but then TDS and others miss out.

How has your contact mention him holding up defensively?

Your comment is spot on and applies to all of our young potential players.Some will improve quickly some slowly and definately some not at all but we need massive patience to see what happens.I just hope the club gives it to them and we have no kneejerk reactions like we have always had in the past.As supporters we also need to have the same patience

I am also reliably informed Benji’s coaching methods and ideology are heavily influenced by his time spent as a senior player playing under Wayne Bennett which means team selections will not necessarily be what’s obvious and expected by the masses.
After all the obvious and expected team selections haven’t helped us over the past few seasons.

I'm not great at quoting this post along with a previous one, so I'll do it the hard way and point out how your post was not written as an opinion but worded to imply fact. I'll higher case the words that show your indicating fact.

For the record, no one has said it just because of two trial matches, clearly there would be more to it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but they are all strong statements of fact the way they are worded. All I'm saying is it isn't fact, we have no idea. I certainly don't.

This is a very weird hill to die on. Almost every opinion on this forum is stated with some element of fact. Are you advocating every post needs an opinion disclaimer from now on?

Agree to an extent. Some more strongly then others. I'm sure I've been guilty of it, but I do believe yourself and a couple of others are going too arrogant in shooting down any suggestion of Galvin starting. I find it odd when someone can go so strongly and talk as if something is fact when it's obviously not a fact. It's very simple to say "I'd be very surprised if he starts, I just can't see it happening". Rather then the arrogant tones that going on here. Cue Misty to get upset at me telling people how to post lol. She will be upset.

It’s an opinion. Just because you stand by it doesn’t make someone arrogant and trying to pass if off as fact. You‘re really starting down a very slippery slope nailing your colours to this mast.

It's not presented as an opinion, that's my issue. It's stated as fact. So I disagree. Maybe it's easier for me to take a step back and tell myself "while this person is talking like its fact, it's just his or her opinion and they just dont know how to experess it"...maybe I can get better at that.

Yes, those are the quotes. Though, putting them in all caps certainly adds a greater degree of emphasis on the nature of those words than when I originally posted it. The certainty of my wording was not the focus of the post.

I then responded with a follow up comment, saying there is a heavy implication through all posts that people are providing their opinions, particularly on future situations, it's kinda built into the concept of speculating (as I've already mentioned).

So.... Like I said earlier, your major gripe here essentially boils down to the fact that I didn't preference each statement with the phrase 'in my opinion'.

You could literally place 'in my opinion' at the start or end of all those quotes you mentioned and it would read identically.

Curiously, I generally make a point of weaving that phrase into my posts for this very reason. It's rather comical that one of the few times I neglect to, someone is bothered to take issue with this non-consequential component of the post I made, especially considering that wasn't key point I was making.

If you're consistent, I would expect this same issue to be posted henceforth with every, single post that doesn't preface a post with 'in my opinion'.

For your records, all my posts that involve any form of speculative commentary about future selections or signings are my opinion, apparently some people need that clarification.

KS, you've really misread this entire kafuffle...

If someone believes strongly that something will not happen, on whatever basis, it is not arrogant to say so.

No matter how much you might believe the opposite.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with somebody stating their position in no uncertain terms. This is not the definition of arrogant and you're barking at shadows.
