TEAM LIST Trial 2 vs. Dragons

Team List
Watched it in slow mo again today. AJ is in a more forward position than Stef which any good half will exploit. That’s under 10’s stuff and basically invites the cross play. Then AJ accelerates out suddenly which he should not do unless Stef tells him he’s got the inside guy covered and to release. There’s clearly no communication and also Stef was labouring so I doubt he told AJ to slide hard. Very fixable but you need footy IQ to play that crucial defensive position.
So AJ waits to see if Stef feels like tackling the inside man.... then AJ tells someone else whether or not he feels like tackling someone else and so on.

That close to the line, there was no room for error if a defender rushes and misses the player with the ball.
I’m sure they’ll be talking about it at training. But it looked like AJ pushed up in the line further in front, stef cooled his position and was slow to move from marker and that’s even before the decision AJ made to come out of the line all together.
If they stayed connected and held firm for an extra 10 secs they would have been in a better position to combat that attack.

From the gallery today on the website it looks like we will line up like this

Left edge:
Bateman/ Kepaoa
Sezer
Olam
Tupou

Right edge:
Ipap
Bud/ Galvin
Toa
Staines
That makes a lot of sense - Sezer and Bateman have a developed on filed relationship and Olam/Tupou can are big enough to make more out of any unortadox half break that Bsteman pulls off. On the other side Bud's footwork and speed digging into the line has the potential to get IPap to hit a hole on the ad line. Toa also has the strenghth and footwork to make something off the back of Bud and Staines has the speed to capitalise on any clean breaks. No idea at this stage how Galvin will play/shape up but from what I have seen of Latu he and Bud will provide similar service.

Imo our blokes could not be training in a worse spot re. air quality.
Rite on P'matta Rd. and directly across the road from diesel belching buses in Burwood Bus Depot.
That's a good point and there'd be some exhaust stacks somewhere around there for the tunnel from M4 to Ashfield... 5 days a week training there all day & if the winds not favourable it's probably not real good

We need the win to instil belief in the players this club is on the up “on the field”….belief in this area is lacking badly..the Dragons are a team we should easily beat no matter the significance of the game..bet your bottom dollar Flanno wants his team to win badly for the same reasons…

scary that AJ is still in the starting side, surely Samuela Fainu is a better o tion
Just watched a replay of the warriors game keeping a particular eye on Kepaoa.
I was impressed with his overall speed and work rate from the 2nd row. Doesn't have to catch the high balls anymore [same as Papali'i], made some good runs up the middle, tackled well.
I can see why Benji likes him.
However I think he has become the new whipping boy [mainly from the centre/wing experiment] but deserves a closer look of what his current overall contributions are as a 2nd rower and a little less of follow the leader of his past flaws and judge him on his now minimal flaws as a 2nd rower.

I agree with what you are saying.
He’s got a lot of attributes to make a good edge forward, looked fitter and stronger than ever and showed some good signs in the trial against the Warriors.
He’s a work in progress , but can potentially surprise many of his doubters.

Do you think flanno prefers :
A) his teams plays poorly yet jags a win....

Or does he prefer

B) they play well, what they've been put into practice all summer worked well, his new combinations clicked... Yet they lost

I think both coaches choose the latter
Isn’t the win the former?

I’m taking the win.

Odd question. Winners are grinners, every coach and player turns up to win.
