LIVE GAME Round 5 vs. Dolphins

Live Game Discussion
Bula’s pretty good but I think if Ontoni Large is as good as advertised he could well take the fullback spot in a few years. Between Luai, Galvin and Finau there’ll be no room
In the halves for Large when (if) he’s ready to come into first grade.
What?
Bula ain’t going anywhere…”pretty good”? the bloke played International footy in his debut year and is the only X factor strike we have.

Bud burning our challenge early wasn’t ideal could have used that with the Api situation in the 2nd half was a real turning point in the game imo.
Our 2nd rowers were both really poor Bateman had a shocker and Ice was just lazy he still seems like he wants to be elsewhere. Second row along with an outside back is becoming a priority signing.
I know it’s only still a few games but Bud seems like a real dud signing he’s obviously still in next week but it’s almost last chance saloon for the kid. I think we can all see quite clearly he’s the odd man out.
I also reckon it could be time for Naden whether it’s for Tupou or in the centres I think we need to find him a spot Fataape hasn’t done anything wrong but Naden probably offers more.
Was under the impression bud was completely against using that challenge

Large is 16/17. Talk about getting ahead of yourself.

Yep, it took an18yo in Harry Grant to get us going a couple of years ago, now we're relying on another 18yo in Galvin.
Seems like we are currently still short of talent.
That’s an interesting comparison. Can see similarities in regards to where Galvin is in his development compared to where Harry was in 2020. Good thing we don’t have to give this one back. Though Harry was 22. Galvin has 4 years on him.

Timestamp @Kaito

1 minute and 5 seconds left in the first half

Jayden pushes Latu
Nothing to it.
He seemed to be telling him to get into position as there was still time to have a crack. First play after that, Bud fed it straight to Latu.
A lot of people shitting on Sullivan tonight. Unfairly for mine. He was very vocal, trying to lead the backs, trying to win it for us.

After the boring, lazy and at times gutless displays we have seen over the past 12 years, I find it odd that a guy having a real go is singled out so quickly.

Harry was a man who had been playing reserve grade. Not a kid.
We also are not relying on Galvin.
We have a very good halfback, a crafty hooker and an X factor fullback. That’s where our points come from. Galvin compliments them.

I agree he tried hard and was dangerous when running the ball.
He’s got a bad habit of clocking off defensively, where Galvin in comparison works extra hard to cover for his outside defenders when the ball goes past him.

Yes I agree but that can be worked on, the kid is having a go and marshalling the troops, not afraid to really get vocal.
FFS Brooks was a little church mouse in comparison.
I’m just saying, it’s round 5 and we are already writing off too many guys.
The team is playing with heart. For the time being, that will keep me interested.

god I'm still fuming at that Marker penalty not given...changed the whole complexion of the game. We were starting to get a roll on.
Wish the Tigers could request that Sutton doesn't officiate our games ... love to know what our strike is under him? I mean I know under other refs would be low but under Sutton is must be close to zero :cautious:

Need to jag a wins next week which would be huge. No Galvin, No Fainu brothers, No Bateman.
We need a full squad for Penrith.

Positives: We won the second half 16-12. Given the ease of the DOlphins metres and go forward we were lucky not be behind by 40 at 1/2 time. Olam try would have been awarded if we were the Storm or Roosters or Broncos or Cowboys etc.

Negatives: We won't have Bateman Fainu S (HIA protocol) and Fainu L (Hammy) next week with Api a dodgy thigh strain or whatever part of his body was hidden by the white rug thing. Our depth sucks.

I actually thought that when Latu came off BM would send Naden in to stir things up cos God knows Sullivan is so slow and not as impressive as Galvin. When Latu came on we had no ball so he was defending and he was good.

we were clearly very tired after a brutal encounter that was only five days ago. it reflected in some of the tries the Dolphins scored and had a little to do with our first half performance, but there can be no excuses for the way we played to begin the match. we set the tone in the first few sets and were lucky to be down only 14-0 at HT.

second half we showed plenty of fight and we can be proud of our efforts, but the Sutton call and lack of resolve afterwards killed us off. we’d probably do better with a couple extra days off, but unfortunately this is the state of the game. we have to be better in those situations.

I absolutely love Jahream Bula and admire his effort and raw talent but his ballplaying needs considerable work. he doesn’t square up, he rarely passes the ball and teams are beginning to snuff him out very quickly. he has a number of traits that can’t be taught, but he needs to be working overtime on creating gaps for the men outside him at training.

eight days before our next match against inferior opposition will lessen the blow of losing both Fainu’s and Bateman. its a squad game, whoever comes up has to do their job.

there’s certainly a team we can be proud of here, they’ve just got some work to do. roll on next week.

Agree we looked tired from a tough game against the Eels, but as you say it’s not acceptable at NRL level.
