Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He hasn't had a chance to play in position is what I don't understand. Let him play at lock or 5/8 before saying he is write off. He isn't a hooker, and has only played hooker when forced to internationally
I never said he’s a write off. I said he’s shown nought so far. I presume he hasn’t been picked in his favoured position due to what he’s shown at training (injury obviously needs to be factored in).

Yes- I'd take Garner back.

He offers a good athlete on the edge & is an emergency centre. We actually lack that kind of player, unless Kepaoa could actually take up that role.

Latu has played out of position and clearly has been hampered by his hamstring injury.

Once he overcomes the injury and he gets an opportunity in the halves, hopefully you'll see his promise. As a junior, he was a better prospect than Galvin.
And Galvin was a better prospect than Talagi. Things don't always stay the same, but I still think Galvin will be gold when his body settles down.

Get rid of Papali'i and Bateman. Club needs guys like Sam Fainu and Alex Seyfarth, not merchants here to muck around. More money in the cap gives us a chance to go after a marquee second rower, and hopefully someone not like Papali'i who never tried from the start

I think we should have a conversation with Ali Leiataua from the Wahs. Strong, tall and young centre who is stuck behind RTS and Rocco Berry and can start negotiating at the end of this season since 25 would be his last year. Could also try for early release for next season
And give him 2 seasons to adjust to NRL. Yeah been there, done that.

Kepaoa is officially hopeless.
He’s had numerous chances to show something and is getting worse if anything.
Garner as you say is one of those valuable back rowers who can also fill in as a centre when required, his age is what worries me.
He has never been the most enthusiastic type of player which is his downfall, that won’t get any better once he’s 30 and beyond.

Kepoa...

We should NEVER entertain any idea of offering him another contract.

He's gone after this season.
Thankfully.

Garner is not the answer. Can we please please please try and get Scott Sorenson. The guy is so class and very underrated. He's also not the sort of player who makes dumb errors and lets the team down
I get the feeling by releasing Papali’i we will likely go for someone with the Panthers connection such as Sorenson.
Again it’s his age that is the worry, players such as him that have always played above their weight, sometimes age much quicker as a footballer because of it.

As some one else mentioned,

I think the freed up cash will go directly to strengthening the backline

His experience will be vital. He is 31, but he is an NZ representative and 3peat winner. He is one of my favourite players from other teams. Look at how he connects that left edge at penrith. Great offloads, good defender and good communicator. I think him and Api are also good mates

Anyone who hasn’t seen it, do yourself a favour and watch the NSW Cup highlights from last weekend, Billy Burns with the Jets and Matt Doorey with the Eels.
I know plenty will say it’s only NSW Cup, but rest assured these two have been dominating NSW Cup like this for a long long time, now in the prime of their careers and crying out for a regular NRL opportunity.
Couple them with the emerging Sam Fainu and a few other prospects currently in our own lower grades and we can possibly have strike on our NRL edges moving forward, something we have not had for a long, long time.
With Papali’i likely departing, I would hope we are also looking at an experienced no nonsense player with much better leg speed than any of our current forwards in Jack Williams to either start at 13 or bring impact like he does at the Sharks.
