Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

As a lebanese coach, I spend alot of time scouring the market and looking for opportunities for recruitment.
We need to go beyond just seeing who is off contract (although we must snap up Aitken quick) but looking how we can 'help' clubs who are unbalanced in they depth.

I can see an opportunity at the doggs to take Hutchison, Skelton or Taafe.
Taafe has lost the FB role but looks like a very handy outside back utility with pace. Would you guys be interested in him? What stops me from committing to him is i want him for our depth but by that logic he may as well stay.
Hutch I think would convert to a great ball playing lock we could get for a steal i bet. He has lost the halfback race and they are covered in the lock/Ute position by Mann, hayward, Salmon etc. Could also be back depth if needed. i would definitely ask the question to his manager.
Skelton a no brainer if we can get him. We wont be alone in chasing him though so we gotta act quick.

Eels and souths are also under some pressure to mix things up. I cant see who we need from souths they would let go, but i think there is a good opportunity to take on an older forward from the eels, because they will want to freshen their pack with younger forwards.
Dont see why we couldnt take Paulo off their hands if we match his contract + add a year.
That has risk but a potential win/win. You offset that with a cheaper hardhead like nathan brown + English and we good.
The fact you think we should snap up Aitken shows you know nothing about the sport.

I'm going to risk a ban from this forum for saying this, but what is so good about Galvin?
I see someone who might be good one day but itsnt really atm.
All g dude

He’s 18/19, good attitude, fittest in the team, hungry for the ball, follows the ball and wants it in his hands all the time, runs to the line, short kicking game, long kicking game, good physical attributes, got swagger but not too arrogant, has been on par with our best and stood up other first grade opposition in his first ten games, has captained his country for his age so good leadership qualities.

Just what I see.

People saying he’s not great. He’s 18.

I remember when Pascoe told me Mitchell moses was too erratic and luke brooks was better half- the week moses left.

Galvin is better than where moses was at his age, is physically bigger, and has more heart.

Hypothetically if Taylan May’s contract gets terminated by the Panthers and if he gets found not guilty with his charges he is defending, who believes he’d be a good signing for Wests Tigers ?
I understand players who are often in off field trouble is far from ideal, but if he is found not guilty and was endorsed by our other ex Panthers players, he is certainly the body type and physical type of outside back we need.
The whole family is scum. Let them all play for the Long Bay losers.

Fair comment mate. I think people compare him with Benji and how much better he was during his first few games, but he has been a little quiet lately? Maybe we should give the kid some space and time? He is good though and looks like he’d be cool under pressure.
Sezer will help him

He's a star

"What he (Benji) has done for me since I've started pre-season has been amazing you know, I love working under him & I love being a Tiger." Galvin in a interview not even 2 months ago. Seriously this random fear mongering about Galvin leaving is based on what exactly?
You seriously believe that rubbish?

What has Stef said publicly? And he's all but gone.

re the May's

Easts seem to be able to manage troublemakers and punt them when needed.

We don't and can't. Even players with tough backgrounds haven't gone well here i.e. James Roberts, Brent Naden, Daine Laurie, etc. Heck I remember even more...

WHICH SUCKS!

I supported Wests, happy to cheer Balmain and the Tigers but I started with the big Western Suburb Magpies!
I want us to be able to hire and support players born on the wrong side of the tracks. Yet I just don't see any of them thriving here. We need culture and we need true support where a player has personal problems... <ok rant over>

Our hiring needs to switch from Moneyball to strategic IMHO. Origin 6/20 Arrgh.

The fact you think we should snap up Aitken shows you know nothing about the sport.
The fact I say we should snap up Aitken means I have vision.
Playing 4D Chess when you playing checkers.
There are fires in my keyboard fingers like the fires on the cedar trees that dont burn like out the bac of Baalbek.
A visionary.
A man of class and a confirmed IQ of 132.

I'll try and be succinct so mortals understand.

If we had reliable and versatile players like aitken peppered throughout our squad, we are not in the hole we are now, no depth, low IQ players who cannot adapt and stuck with paying players to be offloaded to others.
Aitken would be cheap, apply little pressure on our cap, would slot into centre when we need, into the 2nd row when we need. Next man up, like how panthers and doggs play.

You have the tigers mentality of big money superstars or no one. Not every signing should be shooting for Mormon heaven. NRL, like life, is balance.
I specifically added doggs to the paragraph before the last because doggs 2021 is tigers 2024 and Aitken style players are doggs 2024, who are doing well without a half or a big prop (imagine if they had it).

The question for you and others is fo you want an asshole that would help us get wins or nice guys that dont steer the needle.
re hiring T May...

The Sharks Hired Dale Finucane as a culture hire. This was incredibly wise as they knew they were doing a coach swap and ended up trying the rookie Craig F. ...

Rookie Coach = Hire people that are easy to coach.

Experienced coach/toughie = take a risk on some dark horses.
Wayne Bennett could coach Willie Mason. Madge or Arthur could sort out a T May, Maybe...

Marshall can't handle that player. Heck Marshall is struggling enough and we don't have super problems in the playing group.
Avoid difficult to coach for the next few seasions.

Then we also buy a culture hire to look after may.
Anyone who gets his surname tatted all over his neck is obv a low IQ player but lets never forget league is a game for thuggs played by thuggs.
Where you see an assshole i see a 450k player we get for 300, giving us a cap advantage to improve squad
I mean by this logic, roosters never buy todd Carney, doggs dont buy Xerri Xerri baby.

I thought Franklin Pele was a big unit that ran very hard with the ball, he improved rapidly at the Bulldogs. I think he got injured then came back only to be whisked off to Super League - I’d be keen to bring him in for his size and agility, any thoughts?
you are joking right?
he is playing below reserve grade for Hulls feeder club, the team running 2nd last (team running last is semi pro due to politics).

Do you work in the clubs recruitment team by any chance?

Can I ask how releasing someone 4 months early is 2 - 3 steps backwards?
When it's a regular occurrence it would make it very difficult imo to create cohesion and fluidity amongst the squad.
There's aniugh unforced changes (injuries suspensions etc) coaches have to deal with thru a season without adding more.
It creates an unstable vibe amongst the group.and.sury wouldn't be a great look re: youngsters coming Thru seeing players constantly wanting out, how does that create a good positive winning culture?

Weakness 😂 some of you guys really need to figure out what's happening in your head.

There is obviously something we wanted out of this, and we got it. An extra top 30 roster spot for this year. I would imagine there is a reason for that considering we already had one free.
Trying to make the best out of something out of our control or we didn't plan for
Yes a positive way of Looking at it but this is more workload we don't need
