Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Worth a shot for cheap $$ in the back row
We’ve been interested in him for 4 years.

Harto made that big play for him.

As I understand it, he has a lot of baggage. He wasn’t putting in at training, all the own-goals.

Like a lot of players who run amok, it’s bad decisions but also who his influences have been, so we would need to weed these out of his social circle.

But he might take to Benji whom I get the feeling is a players coach, than Seibs who has his leadership model.

I get this feeling we will sign him one day.

I think we made some progress with JTJ until he wore out naturally.

Could be anything, has all the potential in the world but reminds me of Latrell in that he seems to be very mentally temperamental. Has all the ability but just seems to lack the desire at times.
Lack of desire is something that is only rectified here when playing for a contract (bar a few) so I don’t think it would be beneficial for either party

From Daily Telegraph:

Hope we’re in the mix with one of Sullivan, Naden, Tumeth or Staines going to them.

SHARKS STAR GIVEN PERMISSION TO LEAVE

Cronulla has given prop Royce Hunt permission to test the open market as rival clubs come circling the Samoan international.

Hunt is not off-contract until the end of 2025 but having been inundated with requests from other clubs, the Sharks have granted Hunt permission to talk with them but with one twist – it is only for the 2026 season and beyond.

The Sharks have no intention – at this stage – of letting Hunt walk early from his deal. Although their salary cap situation is tight they don’t need to move him on and consider him an important member of their squad.

The likes of South Sydney and Canterbury are among the clubs to express an interest. Hunt will be free to talk with other clubs come November 1 but Cronulla’s decision will now expedite that process.

Cronulla’s stance is similar to the one they took with Connor Tracey recently. Tracey was given permission to talk with clubs months before the November 1 window opened. Eventually he did a deal with the Bulldogs and the two clubs agreed to a player swap with rising star Michael Gabrael joining the Sharks.

While Cronulla have made it known they want to keep Hunt for next season, his future at the club beyond that is not guaranteed. So it means Cronulla would need a player in return should they allow Hunt to leave 12 months early from his deal.

At 28 he is chasing what could be his last NRL contract. Clubs have continually asked the question of a host of players at the Sharks considering their impending arrival of Warriors star Addin Founa-Blake from next season.

Cronulla are in discussions about extending the off-contract Jack Williams while they also want to do long-term deals with Tom Hazleton, Cameron McInnes, Briton Nikora and Teig Wilton whose deals all expire at the end of next year.
We'd have to be flippin' mad if we dont go in hard after this guy .. !!!

Maybe another Suli. Just needs a few kicks in the behind before he gets going.

We really need to start signing some forwards , dolphins signed panaji junior, dogs after hunt ( don’t know how the hell they got any cap ) I know there is no leaks coming from the tigers but I am getting frustrated waiting to see, IF any signings coming our way . I think the main thing that rubs all tiger fan up the wrong way , is how quick other teams sign players , even clubs that are not anyway near the 8

Club injury report has AD back playing next week.

Probs straight into the NSW cup 5/8 role but with lack of centre depth could he take our right centre role in a couple of weeks?

I feel that Royce Hunt ticks so many boxes for us, he could well be our next silent signing if we can offer something to Sharks to release for '25.

He's big, explosive, good defence, experienced, more of an impact middle, wouldn't cost the world & part of the Samoa national team (Luai etc).

What do Sharks need that we can offer?

I don’t think Pangai is a great signing, but I hear what you’re saying. It always seems an eternity of chasing someone before we actually get them, though we did pick up Turuva mid season pretty quickly when plenty of others were after him. As far as the forwards go, it seems Richo is looking to the ESL. I’m not a fan of that approach because unless we can snag a Gareth Ellis or an Elliot Whitehead, most are usually flops in the NRL. That said, what else can we do?

When it's a regular occurrence it would make it very difficult imo to create cohesion and fluidity amongst the squad.
There's aniugh unforced changes (injuries suspensions etc) coaches have to deal with thru a season without adding more.
It creates an unstable vibe amongst the group.and.sury wouldn't be a great look re: youngsters coming Thru seeing players constantly wanting out, how does that create a good positive winning culture?
Yea, but I am unsure who we are talking about here.

For instance releasing Paps early does disrupt the team. He is a regular first grader and a part of the side. I would keep him here as long as possible unless something better coming our way.

Jake Simpkin though, he is really a reserve for Api. Da Silva seems ready to take that place and IMHO he is a player we want to hold. Sure, Simpkin has gone above his reserve hooker status. We just don't need him.

Transfers disrupt the team. The cats out of the bag though, rip that bandaid off now.

Are they?

Every Burgess Brother went well here (unsure how much ESL they played).
James Graham really earned his stripes.
Yes the Bulldogs got a second front rower, that did average when he was meant to be a gun.

Flip it with the backs we get here. I can't recall a single Pom back going well here unless they were already playing NRL i.e. Pat Richardson coming back to us.

I hope Richo isn't buying backs.

As a lebanese coach, I spend alot of time scouring the market and looking for opportunities for recruitment.
We need to go beyond just seeing who is off contract (although we must snap up Aitken quick) but looking how we can 'help' clubs who are unbalanced in they depth.

I can see an opportunity at the doggs to take Hutchison, Skelton or Taafe.
Taafe has lost the FB role but looks like a very handy outside back utility with pace. Would you guys be interested in him? What stops me from committing to him is i want him for our depth but by that logic he may as well stay.
Hutch I think would convert to a great ball playing lock we could get for a steal i bet. He has lost the halfback race and they are covered in the lock/Ute position by Mann, hayward, Salmon etc. Could also be back depth if needed. i would definitely ask the question to his manager.
Skelton a no brainer if we can get him. We wont be alone in chasing him though so we gotta act quick.

Eels and souths are also under some pressure to mix things up. I cant see who we need from souths they would let go, but i think there is a good opportunity to take on an older forward from the eels, because they will want to freshen their pack with younger forwards.
Dont see why we couldnt take Paulo off their hands if we match his contract + add a year.
That has risk but a potential win/win. You offset that with a cheaper hardhead like nathan brown + English and we good.
We are mere forum members. We cannot sign these players. Why not copy and paste this to Richo?
