Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

As a lebanese coach, I spend alot of time scouring the market and looking for opportunities for recruitment.
We need to go beyond just seeing who is off contract (although we must snap up Aitken quick) but looking how we can 'help' clubs who are unbalanced in they depth.

I can see an opportunity at the doggs to take Hutchison, Skelton or Taafe.
Taafe has lost the FB role but looks like a very handy outside back utility with pace. Would you guys be interested in him? What stops me from committing to him is i want him for our depth but by that logic he may as well stay.
Hutch I think would convert to a great ball playing lock we could get for a steal i bet. He has lost the halfback race and they are covered in the lock/Ute position by Mann, hayward, Salmon etc. Could also be back depth if needed. i would definitely ask the question to his manager.
Skelton a no brainer if we can get him. We wont be alone in chasing him though so we gotta act quick.

Eels and souths are also under some pressure to mix things up. I cant see who we need from souths they would let go, but i think there is a good opportunity to take on an older forward from the eels, because they will want to freshen their pack with younger forwards.
Dont see why we couldnt take Paulo off their hands if we match his contract + add a year.
That has risk but a potential win/win. You offset that with a cheaper hardhead like nathan brown + English and we good.
Only agree that Hutchison could be handy utility

Then we also buy a culture hire to look after may.
Anyone who gets his surname tatted all over his neck is obv a low IQ player but lets never forget league is a game for thuggs played by thuggs.
Where you see an assshole i see a 450k player we get for 300, giving us a cap advantage to improve squad
I mean by this logic, roosters never buy todd Carney, doggs dont buy Xerri Xerri baby.

Nope, not that easy.

May isn't a Todd Carney. Todd IMHO was actually someone I think we should have signed (1 year contract) when he finally got booted from the Sharks. Yes he would have stuffed up again, but we could have used him.

The Dogs have an experienced coach in ... Phil Gould and his assistant Ciraldo.
They can manage the attitudes of May and could manage a troublemaker. Xerri has performed under them and Xerri will get the boot if he stuffs up.

Marshall however does not have that support. Don't make his job harder.

Recruitment and re signing players in a club that is winning a few games is miles easier than it is for team that hardly ever gets to sing the team song
The reason for the years of madness here gets back to the wrong people making the wrong decisions from the top down.

The clawing back started with Hb and Richo.

I won’t be surprised if Benji becomes roadkill along the way, because the people in charge don’t have any vested interest in keeping his tenure going if he can’t cut it.

They will give him almost the players he wants and if he fails, they will send him back to clowning around on TV.

We want him to succeed, but he is expendable like everyone else except us members.

In the old days it was all politics. But arms have now been broken, knives wedged hard into backs, big sponsors snotted.

Rome wasn’t built in a day.

If a fair club as a whole is a 100, I’m thinking we are at about 28 but inching forward. Alas Benji and the players are still failing us in many areas. Even if they are trying, they are failing. We can’t tolerate that for another 2 years. Richo won’t wear it.

I’m not sure how we go trying to build , but I just hope and pray we can purchase 3 more solid players and dump about 6 poor over paid players who we don’t need based on their own poor performance , clean out the reserve grade team and add some up and comers from other teams to add to our young guns coming through , nasty job but it’s fairly easy to see who we need to dump , replacement .? Well that’s on Benji

No news on fresh recruitment ? Sure need some !
Just wondering what sort of team would you make out of our offloads/rejects in last couple of years

Luciano Leulua ,Mikhalae , Garner , Liddle ,Madden ,Brooks ,Talau , Laurie, Eisenheuth
Blore , junior Puaga , Hastings , Peachy, Nu Brown , Ofengauhe , Kelma Tuilagi
That's 16 ! 13 of which are doing well in 1st grade at their new home .
Only Peachy and Laurie and Nu Brown don't get much of a run ..
Throw in Douehi virtually gone , Papalii probably played his last game and both wingers a couple of years ago Nofoaloma and Maumalo gone for good
The topic Recruitment should also include Retention and on paper our losses outweigh our gains .
Now with 8 unavailable and a very weak cup side we are struggling to put 17 genuine NRL level quality footballers on the paddock
Conclusion : We are going backwards !
Bottom of the ladder

Paseka went from our SG Ball team so wasn't really 'with us' and Aloiai was plenty committed with us. I don't think you're on the money here. Did Kelma Tuilagi become more committed? Is Aitasi James still sitting in reserve grade now more committed? Aaron Woods too.
Plenty of examples from recent years of players who haven't improved at other clubs. Hastings, for one.
Garner. Eisenhuth,Mbye, Musgrove, Mikaele, both Leiluas and so on.

Mikaele has improved (but it took a stint in the UK) - and he has now earned a 2 year extension at the Cows.

Sam McIntyre has also started to make an impact at the Cows after a wasted stint at the Titans.

Leilua used both us and the Cows to leverage a very good deal at the Dragons - and at 6-6 it has not been a bad move for either party thus far.

Garner and Eisenhith have Premiership rings as part of the extended Penrith squad (despite the limitations in their games)...

Mbye and Musgrove (Madge's personal pick) were past their used by date - or just not a genuine first grader.

Hastings has a limited skill set and a shit personality!

Garner and Eisenhuth have premiership rings, but they didn't contribute much to the premiership. Just journeyman players that even the top clubs have. They're no better than they were here, having premiership rings doesn't prove otherwise.

Musgrove isn't old. He just isn't good.

Limited sightings of Mikaele haven't really made me wish he'd have come here instead of Titans. He'll probably lift when Titans play us at Leichhardt soon, the whole Titans side always seems to.

From Daily Telegraph:

Hope we’re in the mix with one of Sullivan, Naden, Tumeth or Staines going to them.

SHARKS STAR GIVEN PERMISSION TO LEAVE

Cronulla has given prop Royce Hunt permission to test the open market as rival clubs come circling the Samoan international.

Hunt is not off-contract until the end of 2025 but having been inundated with requests from other clubs, the Sharks have granted Hunt permission to talk with them but with one twist – it is only for the 2026 season and beyond.

The Sharks have no intention – at this stage – of letting Hunt walk early from his deal. Although their salary cap situation is tight they don’t need to move him on and consider him an important member of their squad.

The likes of South Sydney and Canterbury are among the clubs to express an interest. Hunt will be free to talk with other clubs come November 1 but Cronulla’s decision will now expedite that process.

Cronulla’s stance is similar to the one they took with Connor Tracey recently. Tracey was given permission to talk with clubs months before the November 1 window opened. Eventually he did a deal with the Bulldogs and the two clubs agreed to a player swap with rising star Michael Gabrael joining the Sharks.

While Cronulla have made it known they want to keep Hunt for next season, his future at the club beyond that is not guaranteed. So it means Cronulla would need a player in return should they allow Hunt to leave 12 months early from his deal.

At 28 he is chasing what could be his last NRL contract. Clubs have continually asked the question of a host of players at the Sharks considering their impending arrival of Warriors star Addin Founa-Blake from next season.

Cronulla are in discussions about extending the off-contract Jack Williams while they also want to do long-term deals with Tom Hazleton, Cameron McInnes, Briton Nikora and Teig Wilton whose deals all expire at the end of next year.
