Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

All good things to the lad and we’ll done to you guys for fostering his potential.

I’ve met a few sporting parents, it’s not easy.

When I was 17, I was busy throwing hospital passes to my fly half!

I think he needs your wisdom tbh. His understanding of the world not quite where it will be.
I’ve got four adult sons and once they turned about 15 or 16 none of them really took my advice anymore. I kept telling them that I only offer my advice they don’t have to take it.

I don’t know how many times they have said to me that they wished they listened and took my advice. That’s all part of growing, young kids to teenagers, teenagers to young men.

Most of them have kids of their own now and quite often ask if they were like that? The circle of life.

My son is 17 and in a situation where he is building towards a career in sport, not league. He is in a spot where we could see him on TV in a couple of years or he could walk away from the game all together, could go either way. He has made it very clear to me that he does all the talking to the senior people at the club he is at and I'm to stay away. While we are seeing evidence of parent influence, he refuses to do the same. Not that I could influence, and not that I'd want to, but he is old enough to know it's not how he wants it done.
Good luck to him KS no matter how it pans out

Galvins being rested cause Richo worried a few fans at LO on Saturday might yell a few unpleasant home truths his way and upset him.

People suggesting it's his parents and or manager behind all this while.its likely pretty close to the mark he has the ability to come out and say otherwise if he doesn't like the way this is all portraying him... Ie: like a spoilt entitled brat.. So saying nothing is as good as agreeing with it all.
Anyone. Involved in JRL will have seen it... Special players who's shit don't stink...oarents are usually the worst but in most NRL players cases once the kid gets a manager the parents are qagged somewhat.
Not all end up like this I've seen close hand Tatola and. B Sirro get to the nrl from kids footy... If the parents have anything to say which usually they do it's done quietly & in then correct manner

Mate he is 18, I don’t know too many 18yr olds that would get on the front foot and say get stuffed to their parents / manager etc.

If he wants to stay & we extend his deal then he will stay. I doubt he will get a release anytime soon though.

Maybe this whole activity is about $$$ rather than wanting out.

Good post ..agree with pretty much everything …

How many years now have we seen them with poor center/ wings that concede 3 tries for everyone they score ..?

I would love to see what they actually do at training ,,, lot of players seem so bereft of even the most basic fundamental skills
I agree with this .. tackle techniques are pathetic and some can’t even play the ball properly.. how they lose every ruck is beyond me

Hope you are right …

Would be curios if there is another source to verify if he said he wanted out in the dressing room after the game .. that would indicate to me that he really wants out and the money probably won’t matter …

And what will the penalty be for the other clubs that get caught doing this ?

Can’t read the article if it is explained there …
Sorry I'm too tight to pay for a subscription. But if he has threatened to go to the N.R.L then it's about time. In truth it's what our leadership should have done when Moses and Tedesco were still with us. Iv no idea about who's behind Galvin wanting out but iv no doubt his scumbag manager Issac Moses is there about doing something dodgy.

sounds like the outcome will be the same when you threaten to call the police on the neighbours that are still partying on at 3am…

good luck getting the cops to care …

Yep, but what are we holding onto? A very weak pack that lacks physicality and gets knocked back in defense and has no agro.

I'm not talking about big signings like Willison and Hunt, I'm talking about experienced, hungry players who enjoy the physicality and have something to prove.

Look at the production of players like Josh Curran, J'maine hopgood, tom eisenhuth, scott Sorensen, max King, mitch Nicholls. None of those are big name players but they provide starch. These sort of players are around.

Rather than a massive 5 year contract at 800k for Stef, let's buy two grizzled props who have actually played physically already on short term contracts at 400k each.

Two decent props instead of one who looks great but plays weak.

Same with Klemmer, big contract but only a below average prop, let's get two plodder props who aren't just content to cruise and still want to prove themselves instead of him.

We're holding onto and paying for hope and potential with no production. And they've got us to last place. Rather than adding 1 or 2 players to a disinterested squad we need to blow it up and replace them with honest workers. Stef and Klemmer aren't that, they've led nothing in changing the attitude of the squad. The problem with our pack isn't talent, it's their lack of competitiveness and sense of entitlement. We need to blow this up, and create a squad of players who compete and want to prove.

Our present squad make-up has big money wrapped up at the top on underperforming players. We need to change to a squad where there is genuine competition. No team would carry the performances of Klemmer and Stef without change, yet we do because our strategy of big name buying leaves us with no depth.
Finally, somebody that can express my thoughts. If only those in control could listen now.

Unfortunately we can't have a draft like the AFL.

You can thank the recently departed Terry Hill (& a few others) backed by the RLPA for challenging the draft in court, citing " restriction of trade" and they won.

Funnily enough Terry Hil actually wanted to play for Western Suburbs though he had been drafted to the Roosters.

Yes, that is difficult to believe, but actually really happened!!😆😂
And after all that fighting left the Magpies after 2 years to go the Manly!

This part is less difficult to believe

Hey I’m not a instagram person but a mate sent me this screenshot which looks like Galvin liking a post about him leaving the club. Can anyone confirm if this is real or fake ? Cheers. Disgusting if it’s real tbh, wouldn’t want someone in your club acting like that
Before this gets blown out of proportion, the 1st image in this Insta post is this one below. Lachie was probably just scrolling as young people do, saw the 1st pic and liked. Probably didn't even go to the next pic which was the one your mate sent you. Context!

Unless there is a complete revamp of the junior systems with state rl or nrl funding then a draft just isn't viable. Clubs invest in junior pathways. The reward of which is that it is largely easier, and more cap beneficial, to retain the junior you have invested in then recruit externally.

I also tend to agree that players shouldn't be sent to a club they do not want to play for, though there are measures that can be introduced around a draft that ensures this does not happen. On a whole though I'm not really pro a draft as there are just to many hurdles to overcome to make it viable.

It only survives in the AFL because no player or club challenges it …any legal action would have the same result as the Hill case ..

It shows a key difference between the sports … the “whats best for me” in the NRL versus “good of the game “ in the AFL …

Not saying AFL is right and NRL wrong … their drugs policy is wrong in my view …
