Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Rivers of player blood at Concord these days.

If I was a WT player, I’d try to sneak in to training in case I bump into Richo and he remembers my last game and I get sacked or shipped to England.

No place to hide anymore.

It will be remembered as the “grand squad massacre of 24“

And I get this sense…that we are a long way from finished.

Don’t know what we are doing, but it’s all happening as it should as we are coming last. Something has to give my friends.
Happened at the Bulldogs and they are coming out the other side in good shape.

There’s going to pain, but the new regime doesn’t have to justify the old one or back their decisions from yesteryear.

They can close their eyes and shoot and don’t have to explain themselves.

Ps: Hunt backflipped on his dragons whinge. Complete 180. It can happen.

I hope Galvo sees the light and stays.

I reckon Galvin to Roosters 2025 and they may offload Brandon Smith to us to gain the release. Or does Richo ask for Billy Smith
not sure where we play Brandon maybe a running 13 and cover for Api
Galvin aside, imagine if we secured Brandon Smith (to play lock, backup hooker) & Josh Schuster on low coin for 2nd row.

Note - TDS completes his apprenticeship in NSW Cup.

I reckon he will too. Richo & parents will have a great meeting and move on with a plan forward.

I think you would agree that is a far superior team list to what we currently have.
You would think Stef would be much more keen to stay playing in this type of team and it’s clear the Roosters don’t want Teddy past 2025. I know he’s ageing and slowing down, but I still think his presence would be of great benefit and in addition to Luai would be a magnet to help sign others such as Angus Crichton and Royce Hunt etc
I think the Roosters would be very tempted to release Teddy and Smith early in return for Bula and Galvin
I don’t disagree but the Roosters aren’t giving us Tedesco, Brandon Smith for Lachlan Galvin. It looks like Stefano is a week from heading to market and Royce Hunt is in talks with Souths, not to mention Onitoni is off to union.

there’s a lot going on at the minute.

I believe the Roosters would be very tempted to release Teddy and Brandon Smith for 2025 in return for Galvin and Bula as they don’t want Teddy past 2025 and they don’t want Brandon Smith full stop.
As it currently stands they have no choice in where Angus Crichton decides to play in 2025. Crichton would not be the slightest bit tempted in signing for Wests Tigers at the moment, go to him with a package that includes Tedesco, Brandon Smith, Royce Hunt etc if could be a very different story.
Likewise Stefano is definitely not staying with the team we currently have, add a few experienced top class players and he would likely change his mind.
Likewise in trying to sign players such as Royce Hunt, we are not currently an attractive proposition, we need to somehow add some experienced top class players to show we are capable of making a massive improvement straight away in 2025.
Only way we can possibly keep Onitoni Large is to parachute him into our top 30 on a decent contract and show him he will potentially come into a team filtered with experienced top class players.
One common denominator get Teddy to give us a realistic chance of success in 2025.

I agree that would be tempting for them.

Using Galvin and Bula as trade bait, this team could be achievable for 2025.
Much more experienced and looks a genuine top 8 team to me.

  1. James Tedesco / Heath Mason
  2. Samuel Stonestreet / Charlie Staines
  3. Taylan May / Starford To’a
  4. Justin Olam / Onitoni Large
  5. Sunia Turuva / Heamasi Makasini
  6. Jerome Luai
  7. Jayden Sullivan
  8. Stefano Utoikamanu / Peter Hola
  9. Api Korisau / Talyn Da Silva
  10. David Klemmer / Tim Johanssen
  11. Samuela Fainu / Billy Burns
  12. Angus Crichton
  13. Brandon Smith
  14. Latu Fainu / Adam Doueihi
  15. Fonua Pole / Alex Seyfarth
  16. Alex Twal / Sione Fainu
  17. Royce Hunt / Jordan Miller
Development Contracts
Kit Laulilli
Chris Faagatu
Luke Laulilli
Tony Sukkar
Solomon Saukuru
Zac Clarke

If he offloaded Bula to get Tedesco he has lost his mind.

If Wong were to become available due to issues at the Roosters, the thought of he and Samuela as a long-term edge prospect is incredible...

But, until we start winning some games, the sell is nigh on impossible.

Despite the pile on, wins are never as far away as they seem.

I'm of the belief that, generally, going from last to eighth is far easier than eighth to premiers. I think we are far closer to competing for the Top 8 than results suggest. Note; that is not a suggestion that we are close, just not as far away as it appears.

Not at the moment, by any stretch, but, Top 8 may be attainable next year, certainly competing for it, whereas being a genuine premiership contender is a much higher mountain to climb.

Interesting to hear how the Large situation plays out. The discontent has gone quiet.

Found this really interesting perspective on the Galvin situation and thought I'd share: Thanks u/whadefeck on Reddit

There's been so much weird shit around Galvin.

  • Request's multiple releases before the season even starts
  • Numerous stories from the Mole about how he's the next Joey Johns before even playing a game
  • Rumours (again from the Mole) about a Luai-Galvin swap. Now on twitter a couple of people are saying that Galvin hoped to go to the Panthers.
  • Galvin gets the starting spot, and says in an interview he hopes to stay a long time and build something with other juniors
  • Injures his hand, then the Mole (I'm seeing a pattern here) writes a story about how Moses had no idea, but then became angry when he found out and requests that the Tigers rest him
  • Galvin requests another release

What do we think? Is it the boy or his manager? Or family driving this?

I just think at his best Smith is a cut above a truly elite talent
Hes obviously not happy at the chooks
Hes not accused of criminal matters no comparison with May
Doubt he would consider going to the bottom side anyway
However if Chooks don't want they might consider any deal to get so much money off their cap
He apparently has a really bad gambling problem. Apparently the reason he was breached is he was on a date with his misso and he isn't allowed to take his phone because he glues himself to the sports betting app. Missed all messages and calls about his meeting.

If chooks can’t handle him then I’m not sure Tigers would be able to. He seems quite disruptive to team culture.

The club is systematically removing the players that get in the way of the juniors, or constantly float in and out of the team, or bloat the salary cap.

Ice & Sullivan = cap relief

Kepaoa & Naden- cutting the cord on two nearly-there's

Simpkin- see Kepaoa & Naden.

Once we take off the panic-glasses, the realisation is that not one of these players were going to be responsible for turning the club around.

Utoikamanu & Galvin situations will be interesting to watch. I suspect Utoikamanu is actually the more important keep, as I think we are still good with decent young half options if the Galvin thing becomes untenable.

More players need to go. More juniors need to play. Players from outside the club coming in need to fit a purpose.

I think we are seeing a good case of pruning.
I don't mind focusing on juniors, but going all in is just going to lead to more situations like Galvin's. We need to balance the squad with some experienced players who can help lift us off the bottom of the ladder. We don't need them to win us a comp, we just need to be bringing those promising juniors into a team that competes.

If they are getting flogged every week it doesn't take long till they want out to go to a better team and we're left with the duds. We've seen it before and it's repeating again.
