Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Found this really interesting perspective on the Galvin situation and thought I'd share: Thanks u/whadefeck on Reddit

What do we think? Is it the boy or his manager? Or family driving this?
It's a great breakdown of the timeline.

I think it's both the manager and the family. The parents want the best for their kids, which is understandable. The problem is that LG is only in this position now because of the Tigers and there seems to be a real lack of respect given for how much the club has accelerated his career and earnings - especially when he was picked off the Parramatta scrap heap.

In terms of developing him into a superstar, they already have Benji as coach and Luai to partner next year with a world-class COE. I'm not sure what else they may want. That's a premier setup for a developing half. So I do not get that argument.

There simply has to be more $$$ on the table at another club with more success. That's it. I hope Richo finds out who it is and nails them to the wall. The NRL doesn't work if clubs develop players only for this to happen.

He apparently has a really bad gambling problem. Apparently the reason he was breached is he was on a date with his misso and he isn't allowed to take his phone because he glues himself to the sports betting app. Missed all messages and calls about his meeting.
He won't be coming
The Roosters have axed Brandon Smith and handed him a $1000 suspended fine for missing a team meeting

If all this stuff about Galvin is true and thats a big IF, its a lot of trouble for an 18 yr old guy who has played a handful of games to go to.
We don't even really know if Latu isn't a better fit, they were head to head coming through. I think there comes a time if he keeps going and Latu is good to go we send him back to Flegg or Ball where ever it is that his mates are and test his metal.
This is all spitballing of course we don't know if this isn't mostly all media driven agenda stuff, Buzz and the Mole ect

They don't want him there and are filthy he took up his option.

I don't want him here either, the only coach he has had that's been able to pull his head in is Bellamy, and I don't even really think he did.

I think Mole is one of the dumbest journos out there but I think he is close with someone in Galvin's life.

He was pretty spot on all pre season about what was going on and he had a bit of agenda he was pushing wanting him named in the team.

The club is systematically removing the players that get in the way of the juniors, or constantly float in and out of the team, or bloat the salary cap.

Ice & Sullivan = cap relief

Kepaoa & Naden- cutting the cord on two nearly-there's

Simpkin- see Kepaoa & Naden.

Once we take off the panic-glasses, the realisation is that not one of these players were going to be responsible for turning the club around.

Utoikamanu & Galvin situations will be interesting to watch. I suspect Utoikamanu is actually the more important keep, as I think we are still good with decent young half options if the Galvin thing becomes untenable.

More players need to go. More juniors need to play. Players from outside the club coming in need to fit a purpose.

I think we are seeing a good case of pruning.
Nobody that does not want to be here.
should we bust our balls to keep here.

Let them go and get someone else who would like to try being a worthwhile addition to the
West Tigers group.

Well maybe just keep the team we have and keep finishing last.
Some of us only want squeaky clean players, but then complain when we don’t have a competitive team.
Have you ever heard of these two very true quotes;
“ Beggars can’t be choosers”
“Nice guys finish last”

Are we the nice guys anymore?
Klemmer
Bateman
Sam Fainu
Seyfarth
Naden
We have some serious hotheads here who all push the envelope on field. Smith wouldnt be an island here. It just depends how bad he actually is off field.

Do you have an opinion on Kayal Iro just read he doesn't have a contract for next year

I remember he was a wonderful junior and was ear mark for big things

As Tucker said below, we aren't even currently a team of squeaky clean players.

Smith allegedly has a serious gambling issue to the point it is effecting his career and relationship. I doubt we are the ones to turn it around considering he has had these issues since before he was even in Melbourne. Cowboys sacked him from his first contract. We already lament at how dumb our team is, do we really think bringing in someone even dumber is the solution?

He and Benji share the Maori background, maybe Benji is the right person to help him and get him focused ?
I understand signing someone like Brandon Smith would be a big risk, but we are staring down the barrel of 3 consecutive wooden spoons, possibly 4 of 5 if we don’t take a few risks and do something about it.

Has anyone heard of any players we are actively scouting for next year? I know Richo went to England to look for some forwards and outside backs. Any sources?

I'd play Brandon Smith at lock if he came here. Culture-wise though, I'm not sure we are the club to get the best out of him

If we are being honest there are less than a handful of players currently playing in the UK Super League who are capable of doing anything that could improve us as an NRL team and those players are currently locked in long term contracts.

A long time ago there were good reports on Morgan Knowles, a second row or lock forward from St Helens?. Tough northern UK forwards are what we require. An Ellery Hanley type would be worthwhile as well.

Stay clear of him. He burnt the Storm and Roosters. If they both can’t get him right we won’t.
