To an extent yes, but not to the degree your implying. The talent of the players in key positions is more important. Just my view.

Are we underbaked talent wise of course.
But we never play to our attacking strengths.
Our backs catch colds. We don’t run with options and we often sit back and count. The instincts have dried up for us.

We intentionally lack speed & certain types of bash barge players which is a coaching choice that feeds the roster, development and tactics.

I also know our attacking formations and structures activities in the offseason from an ex player that left recently was not even 50% of the duration of another clubs that he joined.

Coaching attack in 2024 is about teaching players to create space and not filling their minds with orchestrated moves. The teams with better natural attacking players are the ones who will score points.

Coaching is about numbers and speed of player with a rover calling the attack shift quickly.

We go one out all the time. We don’t have lines, blocks or even use the numbers. If something works we never do it again. We play chess other teams play rugby league. From a scrum we run 1 out, on the goal line we are either edge to edge with zero options or just rework the forwards over.
We have the best attacking hooker who this season has been totally ineffective bar maybe 3 or 4 opportunities.

Our game plan is hope it’s not use player’s strengths, breakdown team’s weaknesses and attack.

That’s coaching.

I get the skills/player side we have an issue with it but it’s our coaching that isn’t identifying those skills needed on the roster - we lack this all through the grades.

If that's the case I would expect the likes of Api to address this with the coach. Benji needs to be told they are only getting 50% of reps in that other teams are. I've heard Api reference reps many times and I suspect Penrith did enough.

Most attacking structures nowadays are practiced in opposed drills. Our lads were up against the Magpies lads in pre-season, knowing how poor they are, maybe we got over confident.

I'd like to see some more aggression from him.

100% agree- he runs are bog average and his defense is okay. If I was given a chance at 27 years old to play NRL, I would be running onto that ball with power and speed to make a name for myself.
He looks like a player that goes about his job at one speed.
Just expected more intent from a player given the chance to play NRL at 27 years old.

Imo were not physical enough, we lose the ruck, we don’t build momentum which means we don’t bring guys like Bula, Api and Olam (attacking threats) into play.

Our player management strategies differ from other clubs due to our current circumstances. If we continue to improve overall, our player management will evolve accordingly.

There is a pathway to NRL with us - lose more games and you are more than likely to get a game in the NRL 🙂.
It is a very clear pathway hahaha

He is closer to 120 atm than 131. 131 is what he came to pre season weighing and has said he lost 7 - 8 kg since.

That’s great to see, just needs a few seasons to build muscle mass. Then we will see how good he can be.

In my opinion it’s pretty clear that if you test the opposition defence by asking questions and making them make decisions, by fatiguing them so their decisions become suspect - then you will make more line breaks and as a result you should score more points.
To do this you need to provide your ball players with multiple options, guys supporting off the ball, running into gaps, not standing flat footed watching the guy with the ball (Tigers style attack).
You must have waves of attack moving forward rolling down the field on both sides of the ruck. Guys in motion. At the moment, we neither have the fitness nor the quality players who are able to see this or who can push themselves to the level required.
Most teams don’t regularly attack like this but some make up for it by having speed. Playing at speed, or players with speed that can make something out of nothing. We have no one like that.
Obviously this is a simplistic view as there are many other sides to the game that affect your attack. How you defend, completions, kicking game, chasing game etc etc. all these provide the platform.

Jordan Miller is only 18....So much for all our up and coming "stars" not one made the U19 SOO teams....not a single player...disappointing

It will come down to what those players do in the top grade

Our coaching for attacking formations and plays is the worst in the comp.

We could have Walsh at fullback and he wouldn’t be effective with the current way we are coached.

Their is definitely natural talent element but coaching through the grades and ability to focus on the development of the right talent is a major issue for us.

That may or may not be true, but take into account our last 7 coaches have had no idea how to coach our team to attack well on a consistent basis and amongst them was Ivan Cleary who clearly does know with the right players at his disposal.
Noticeably our left sided attack has looked much better since moving a genuine tackle buster in Sam Fainu to the left edge.
That is another obvious pointer that getting the right players in the crucial attacking positions is of vital importance.

The difference is, we need a front row.
Remember were loosing Paps and likely loosing Bateman. I reckon were going to loose Stef.

We have Farah hanging around, and he understands ruck speed.
Benji has played 9 and understands the position.

You are dead set right. Our ruck speed is so slow. No wonder our attack is total crap.
But how come? Answer: Coaching and training.

Honestlky Perth makes more sense, they have contributed more players to the nrl and we got a good spike on the back of the reds.

They have alot of east coast transplants there, and kiwis.
Also rugby mad saffas by the boatload. They are union through and through but maybe they kids will be a little more flexible but still in the rugby sphere of mind

That's pretty much every game... Some games we lose it in the first set
We stay in games with scrambling defence which is not controlled and not sustainable for 80
Once you're on the back foot it's extremely diffict to wrestle that back.. Teams like Penrith melb etc... Tough teams with Patience can bide their time and slowly gain control again

Teams like us that can't hold on need to resort to infringing... Holding in the tackle, offside, stupid strips = penaltys and 6 to goes = equals more defense for us which we have no structure = fatigue and ultimately points against
