Stefano Utoikamanu #241

At best I’m a backup bush lawyer. So safest to disregard this…

My understanding of contracts is that if you can prove that a third party knowingly influenced a contracted party to breech that contact then they are exposed to damages that result from the breech.

Eg confidentiality clause from previous employer

With Luai and Turuva coming next year, the young blokes going well, and the hard yards he’s already done getting flogged most weeks, you’d think he’d sign on for a couple more years to see how it goes and reap the benefits of our obvious impending upswing.

Problem is the Storm, Panthers and Roosters are permanently entrenched in the top 4. Versus us, battling for what, maybe 8th next year??

Truth hurts.

Not any more Bags, I’m way too jaded for that.
I get the offers are coming from the top teams but ya finally see the tide starting to turn and you’ve already put in the hard yards. The other thing I thought of since that post is sacking the board and getting Richo in. It’s another big change for the better that would maybe make you wanna stay and enjoy the impending success that is obviously coming our way.

I’m more confident than I’ve been in years, but as a gambling man, the odds are still in favour of those rich clubs, who we all agree get all the favours from the league.

It’s like playing poker against the punters and the dealer too.
I have no confidence he’ll stay, as I said jaded. I hope so, he’s good, young, BIG, and he has improved each year, and that’s what I like most. I was hoping he improved quicker but I think that is due to us being crap and we just can’t wait. Where as if he were with a club with a stronger roster it would have given him the time and leeway to slowly improve and work on particular areas of his game rather than just trying to do whatever it takes just to not get flogged. It’s hard to work on your game from under the goal post. If I were him I’d be in for 2 more years to hopefully ride the wave of success that is obviously coming our way. If it’s still a battle for the woodenware in 2 years then I’d be going before it got too late for my career.

Can just imagine the promises those low life cheating clubs are making him. You’ll be a Kangaroo, an origin starter, win trophies. Sadly, I think they’re all on the table for him. Hope he takes your path.

If it costs 1 million per season to keep Stef, than it’s in the teams best interests to pay it.
Really it is no major issue, just means one or two more players on the minimum salary, rather than players earning 250 - 300k.
With all these young players we have promoted to the top 30 next season, surely none of them are earning anymore than the minimum wage ?
Yep Roosters Style , pay big coin for 5 guns and I mean guns , then the rest of the team on average or below , just to be at the club on a winning run that’s what I heard was the way roosters did it
Stef , Luai , plus 3 more high paid , then we have kids wanting to be hear or are already locked in for the next few years giving us time . Galvin etc , lock up the ones like pole now , plus a few others on bigger dollars

Yeah we can’t offer any of that especially with former disgruntled coaches as the rep coach. He’d be looking at Api right now thinking how’s he not playing for NSW? Oh that’s right he plays for the Tigers who sacked so many coaches they are everywhere squaring up.

Are they though ? Bellamy is retiring , the roosters will have a change of the guard next year , and Penrith will also have a transition year or 2 .
What is true today doesn’t mean it will be tomorrow .
Brisbane , manly and the bulldogs were entrenched in the top 4 most of the early century , and when we could get our players to stay off the physio table , we were also right there .
90s it was Canberra and Brisbane again .
80s it was Canterbury and parra . No one saw the parra dynasty falling off a cliff so suddenly .
Melbourne the last 26 years is obviously an outlier , going from Anderson to basically Bellamy (I know Murray had a year or 2 in between ) .
But they will definitely fall back to the pack when Bellamy leaves . It’s just a matter of how far .

That last sentence is the real issue . Look at our draw this year . No one is talking about it , but how is it not horseshit that we have a bye in round 1 and one in the second last round .
Disgusting draw . Or like when we had a favourable draw in the Covid year , only to get the hardest draw by far when they “rejigged it” .
A fe byes during that 9 game run would have done us some good .

All of those clubs will offer him 600k max. Will he sacrifice and his agent sacrifice a million bucks? And the relevant commision?

Don’t worry $ 600 k x 5 years and winning games and possible comps , me I take our offer as I like money , don’t have much so I take the cash , others well Glory and everything that comes with it , free this free that etc , I think plenty would take the $ 600

Bellend has been retiring for half a dozen years.

I think it might be a reasonable thing for us to withdraw the current contract, upgrade Stef for next season and the one after. This will mean Stef gets to see what Luai and whoever else we bring in can promote the team to being more competitive. He's only young and its only 2yrs he's apparently happy right?
If its no better he can go on the market Nov1 next year we may have a better chance of finding a quality replacement. All this talk of 900k-1mil is crazy he's a prop that hasn't even been consistently good yet, his best is great but his off games can be anonymous.
I can't see him locking in on the current terms unless his other offers are way under ours, but also if you're paying him way more than he's worth you can't sign others or upgrade any juniors coming through. Could there be a compromised situation not one where its take this for 5 yrs or go elsewhere.

And if he plays at his top end level most weeks you can add 90 k for 3 SOOs

That doesn’t mean we lock in Stef on a 5 mill contract based off potential.
