Imo Faagutu is the best young lock at the club, yet is continually played out of position at prop. The club should be accelerating his development by playing him at lock to give him the opportunity for the NRL position. We need our best in the NRL.
I agree with you since thats where he was dubbed one of the best locks in QLD alongside Damon Marshall

We really need a Club Coaching Director who oversees all players in top 30 down to pathways whose charter is to plot their development pathway & what role specific skills and fitness training they need. Not Benji, not Betsey, not Richo ... someone in addition with experience!
That was Betseys job, until a bunch of other staff got sacked and he got promoted by default. We've been a mess ever since we hired Sheens again

Faagutu should be 13 in the NSW Cup team.
We don't have a plan in place for development, that's one of the biggest issues as a club we face. Especially as we're trying to become a development club. Team selections across the grades appear to just be decided upon every Tuesday, no long term planning involved. Just making it up as we go, players changing positions, teams on a weekly or fortnightly basis.

And this is why we lag so far behind all other clubs. The Dogs, Panthers, Sharks, Storm, heck all other clubs seem to have a plan in place across numerous positions. Why isn't Faagutu getting regular game time at lock?. Johansen is suddenly the superior long term option than the Qld u19 lock from last year?

Didn’t Richo say that Benji, Betsey and himself will look after everything related to top 30 and pretty much any player contracts related to Wests Tigers.
Does anyone know of any of these 3 regularly attend our lower grade games or any other teams lower grade games to have their eyes on what’s needed and what is best for Wests Tigers ?
Not to say they were not there, but I have not seen Benji or Richo at the lower grade games I have attended.

Yes.
I haven't seen them, but that's not to say they're not in a box somewhere. And yes at least one of them must attend all of our matches across every grade, men's and womens, and across many of our rivals matches too scouting for talent, watching how players are progressing etc.

Didn't see them at Lidcombe last weekend, but there was a cameraman in the stand filming.
Always used to see Siro at Lidcombe and LO.
Also noted the Penrith Flegg side hung around to form a corridor to cheer on the Penrith KOE side as they ran on from the dressing sheds. Culture of the club.
Our Flegg side had long gone home, depressed 60 - 0.

Disappointing to see another loss for these boys. Season starting to fall apart
With most of their better age eligible players playing NSW Cup or NRL it makes it very hard.
Of course every team has some of their better young players playing NSW Cup or NRL but without checking it thoroughly I’d say we have more than most playing above their age group.
Also factor in that we are currently using predominantly our own local juniors with only a couple of recruits and a couple of cast offs from other clubs. This is great in theory, but hard to compete against most of the other clubs who are throwing their recruitment net far and wide.

WTs lost 20 to 16 against the Sharks who are usually very strong. Willett, Herman were among the try scorers and I am pleased the team appeared to have made of good game of it.

If you are at the game, are there any standouts? Thanks for the update.

I was meant to reply earlier sorry about the game sorry. Attending the game we had every chance to win yesterday but unfortunately on if our halves got hurt which caused a big restructure of our spine and Cronulla capitalised.

My take on the game was

Navren Willet was switched to FB in the 2nd half and looked good as a FB instead of being on the wing.

Forwards were led by Faagutu in the middle. It was actually Faagutu that scored from 10m out carrying the sharks middles under the sticks. Seemed to me he was running at lock. Got hurt after the first run, seems it was the ankle again but played majority of the game. His defence was aggressive nd the sharks boys did not like it one bit. Different side of Faagutu that was playing as opposed to previous games I've seen him play. Played with alot of aggression and smashing the sharks boys all over. Herman, Aho, Taungatua, Vaihu all strong with ball in hand and in defence.

Good to see Bailey Hodges back in Flegg. Our edges got caught out couple times which led to sharks tries. We were just our own worst enemy in the end, but we played really strong aggressive footy

Thanks for the great update. Faagutu is a player of immense talent.

It’s as clear as day that Faagatu is highly aggressive and has always run the ball with purpose, if he’s now hitting hard defensively that’s a great sign.
He’s a player who shows plenty of signs that he could become a difference maker at NRL level, not sure why quite a few others are playing NSW Cup ahead of him.

I’m worried we’ll lose him in the offseason.
Yeah I am thinking the same. Only contracted until end of '25. Isn't a local. Has seemingly fallen behind others in the pecking order and can't get many cracks in Cup.
I hope I am wrong, but I can see it happening. Would be a big mistake to let him leave and keep some others (like Sukkar) in my opinion.
