Stefano Utoikamanu #241

It’s not clear?

Plenty of highly rated assistant coaches - very few turn out to be anything more than highly rated assistant coaches…
Yeah that’s true. I was at a Roosters induction day a few years ago and Cooper Cronk spoke on the importance of delegating to the assistant coaches. He didn’t mention any of the Storm guys other Marc Brentnall. Time will tell with Ryles I guess

I would let him go for a swap for NAS. Sounds like a short term gain sacrificing a long term gain but we need small wins.
NAS is also capable of playing in the backrow and in our side a presence like NAS out wide would be huge for us.
Now put yourself in Luai’s shoes who would he rather play behind / utilise in his line up?

Storm will get him for $650-$700k per year. About what he’s worth in the current market. We will get bagged out for not being able to hold on to our talented stars with the old chestnuts of Moses, Teddy, Paps etc regurgitated.
Just another day in the life of the Wests Tigers.

Truth hurts

there is no need for the Storm to swap anyone if they sign Stef ..,,

But..

How many minutes we getting a game out of NAS ? You would be hoping for a lot more than his current minutes … He is signed another three years with a mutual option for 2028 … I hate the length of that commitment the Tigers would have to take over

Klemmer has got me a bit concerned about paying too much for a 29 yr old prop .. easy to check out of the grind and just collect a pay check …

Last year NAS was an 80min backrower.
Not saying he needs to play 80mins but he has shown he could be a real weapon for us there.
Running on the right hand side a Luai’s go to would really give us strike.
Recruiting NAS as a prop would be a bit of a waste as I feel we’d be covered with Pole and Klemmer but as an edge option we would have the strike we need.

NAS on an edge would be great if his body is ok. However relying on Pole(as much as i like him) and Klem as our starters and to win momentum against the top props is not going to cut it. We need troops to back them up big time.

Actually there is they have no money to sign Steph. The only way they can afford him is to let NAS go who’s on big money.

so what’s happening this year ?

like I said … 29 yr old props can age quick as we have discovered with Klemmer..

Also ..what are your thoughts on signing him 3-4 years per his current deal? I’m gunna rule that out straight away
all valid points but I will say. We have Luai for 5 years and no backrow prospect other than Samuela whom is striking up a nice combination with Galvin on the left. Luai as a wide ball player was most effective with Kikau as his go to. I know he is expected to change his game and play more across the field however 3 to 4 years with NAS as a go to is not terrible.
If we had a factory of big hard running backrowers just knocking the door down to be selected then fair enough. But it ain’t happening for the next 3 years without recruiting someone in anyway.

I hope the club is considering his mentality.

Talent, potential and youth are fantastic but we as a club need guys who are committed and have a leadership mentality. The type of players who suck it up and push through with an eye on getting to the other end.

We can't change culture if we reward poor culture.

Give him a deadline, call him out on his lack of leadership and resilience and be prepared to punt him once he shows us who he really is.

Don't forget the inevitable article about the tigers star littered team that could have been that will come out in 2027....🙄

Ben Galea. Where is he now?

The decision situation we are in right now is on the club more than Stefano.

We agreed to the dumbest clauses in the game and we also agreed to let him look mid season. If it draws out it means we didn’t manage the situation with a timeline either.

It’s been 2-3 weeks. I don’t blame Stefano for taking some time to make the biggest decision of his career. We hear alot of words about the direction we are heading but results this year haven’t changed on the last 2 years and next years roster will be weaker in the forwards as things stand today.

I blame the club for enabling the position to happen years earlier than it should’ve and at this time of the season also.
