Onitoni Large

But how many kids come straight into first grade into a starting position?
Just about every talented half I can think of has spent time at hooker by starting their career in firsts as a 14.
Forwards likewise take a roll as an interchange forward. The exception is some halves may be blooded at fullback or the centres instead of the interchange. This thread is about Onitoni also not Galvin but the same applies sure. But you’ve got to remember Galvin played some of the HM winning season in the halves out of desperation and the next season in SGball he was a starting half continuing on to his time in the CHS comp for Westfields. His rise wasn’t expected particularly as half.
I think the guy who signed him knew what he was doing, that’s what he does best, but we sacked him and with him obviously went the kids aspirations.

The rules currently allow agents to speak to as many clubs about their client, the clubs just can't put their money where their mouth is and offer a contract for consideration. It's a huge grey area and why it keeps on happening. Who dobs in an agent if they take offers from clubs? The only people that would know about it are the agents, recruitment guys and maybe the player. It's not in their interests to disclose that they've broken the rules.

I'd like to see the NRL rule out independent agents. Make all agents NRL employees, on a base salary paid by the nrl, with no commissions from deals struck. Their job is simply to negotiate the best deal for their client, if there's no incentive in it for them to push agendas then it becomes a non issue.
Good suggestion BB

That would also ensure the Salary cap was policed properly. Would not stop the losing a hole at Golf payments or the Roosters dental plans being awarded to the team.

It's a great idea.

Just watch the overpriced WHingebags fight it screaming their heads off!

Interesting idea having everything under the one roof, and disincentivising agents, but would it work better?
The one thing that makes the game great is it’s competitive nature and I think you need those arms length entities for that to continue.
I would vote for stricter controls and licensing requirements.
A lot of these agencies have clients in all sorts of sports.
my pet dislike is Coaches and Administrators having an agent who also has many players on their books. I’d like that changed.

Don’t forget Ashton was playing Harold Matthews a year young, so very impressive when you take into account.
Looks very quick like his brother, but I will say I’m not seeing the Api Korisau, Robbie Farah deception in the play of our young number 9’s just yet.

Getting really sick of managers inflating the egos of 16-18yos and telling them their future is in the halves (no doubt due to their increased commission).

Becomes very difficult for the club to try the likes of Galvin as a lock or Large a centre without noise in the media created by their incompetent managers.

When managers received EOIs from other clubs it reinforces the incorrect belief that there is an easy out of the contract to allow the player to sign with another club to get what the manager/player want.

West Tigers need to stick the fact he has signed a contract with a clear path laid out to him,his manager, his parents to understand. The club needs to ask his manager who is talking to and report the grubs.

I'd like to know the different types of contracts that clubs offer. We know of ..

Top 30 ($11.25 million cap in '24)
Development (4-6 with a cap of $650k)
Train & Trial ($1,200 per week + $3k bonus for NRL game)

And then for pathways players like Large, I wonder what the contacts are called and if clubs have a cap for these?

Makes too much sense… will never happen

So how come he's suddenly training with the big boys again? School holidays? Or Was he upgraded at the deadline and in the top 30 now? He didn't travel to the schoolboy carnival for some reason either.
Still coming back from injury?
I would think it is more likely because it is school holidays.

Yeah I noticed he didn't play in the Schoolboys Carnival. Could be still on the road back to full contact or didn't go with the side due to that injury and the lack of recent game time.

I see it as a positive that he is at least joining us at training when he can. If he (and his management/parents) were that pissed off at the club and wanted out, I reckon he wouldn't come to training during the holidays when he doesn't have a development or Top 30 contract.
