Bateman, Klemmer

Three seasons with Wests Tigers and getting the spoon would make me lose passion for the game and the jersey too. He came here on fire and once again this club snuffed it out like so many before him.

Lost his fire… but still happy to collect his $800k a year though

I simply cannot agree with this Bateman chat. The bloke puts in, what else do you want. They’re a lot of others on that field with piss poor effort. Enough. Klemmer is well past it.
Yeah, there is one thing I've noticed with Bateman- the tackles he is involved in will 'generally' result in winning the physical battle. Player is tackled on the deck, slower to get up etc.

WE do not win that physical battle often enough, and for whatever reason it's not highlighted.

I don’t think klemmer should be a link player. Just truck the ball foward imo
The attack doesn’t look crisp because all the players are still not on board with the 05 style
Gonna take time

I don't doubt his heart or effort. But what else I want in an nrl standard player - on what is probably a pretty decent salary - is a bit of talent to go with it.

Maybe he offers things unseen? Like he is amazing for the young guys to play with or is a great team man, but I just don't think he is a good player.

In any case, there's nothing wrong with people having different opinions. 😊

I think his best was way gone at Newcastle, Flip. We were just desperate to sign players and managers take full advantage of it.
Yeah probably but I still think he had something to offer when he came here. Fresh start, motivated, experienced and he was one of the best players in his first year with us. Slowly deteriorated since then, as they all do. Api will be next, they get tired of trying to hold the whole team up. If there was a coach in the universe who could get us to play like a an actual team, we might actually get somewhere.

Not slowly deteriorated… Klemmer was one of the best players last year for about the first 10 games or so and then fell off a cliff ….

It does make me have concerns over Nelson who will be at a similar age and still has another 3-4 years left on his contract

If we get NAS we are cooked. Melb don't have the cap for Steff we get NAS we create that cap for Melbourne. If our leaders can't see that we are cooked seriously.

The only concern is injury which is not a risk we can take. At his best NAS is a beast and Melbourne don’t release him.

Bateman has a go every game , yes does a few dumb things but gee he does some defence work , he and Sam would be great with Pole and another pole up front , plus some quality backs

Bateman won't work at all next year with Laui, Galvin and Latu as our halves options. All 3 play best with hole running backrowers outside them. Bateman is an early ball backrower so he will really hinder our halves if we have him here next year.

Getting rid of Bateman and replacing him with a wholehearted hole runner is absolute critical to us improving.

If we can offload Bateman, Tumeth and Matamua, we can look to add a couple of hungry hole running backrowers to compete for that right edge. Ethan Bullemor would be great for Galvin. Ethan and someone else, like Matatuia, some have said he is going great in England. Those 2 could fight it out and the best man gets the spot while the other plays reserve grade.

Bateman MUST go

Bateman always get's out of his contract early, let's hope he abandons us at the end of the season.Waste of time signing him,he would have cost us a million last year due to transfer fee and about 750k this year.
A terrible signing by Sheens

That is true, but you really can’t have an edge back rower in your team just because he’s a good defender as their role is so crucial to their teams attack.
Bateman was running and generally playing with more intent off the bench against the Roosters and again against the Storm, against the Sharks he was back to offering nothing in attack.
Whether or not that was more a result of our overall team lack of physicality is the question, but he could of helped that with a few kamikaze ball carries if he wanted to.
I agree Klemmer has just looked like he is going through the motions for most of this season.
