If you look at East they know look after the central coast and the Storm look after the Sunshine coast in Qld and they promote heavily in both regions, and this is there way of getting around the debate about Junior Clubs.

West Tigers are not anyone else's problem but are own, Balmain neglected there areas well before the merger and Western Suburbs butchered Campbelltown before the merger as well.

Thanks for the reply. I understood the NRL had a charter to expand the game? We are ignoring the soon to be major population centre of Australia (Melb/Vic) with the wonderful talent available in that State. The Eastern Suburbs of Sydney is densely populated and the NRL should be mandating both clubs invest in the sport in their respective areas.

We need to examine the reasons why both clubs refuse to invest in juniors in their respective areas. Three which come to mind are

1. It takes money to invest in junior leagues, to administer them and importantly to be pro-active to prevent poaching from other clubs; it is easier to poach the juniors of other clubs who invest in their districts. Even if you are pro-active and retain star juniors as we have experienced, this does not prevent approaches to players to unsettle them with the lure of playing for powerful clubs who win premierships noting they may not be winning premierships if forced to establish and maintain junior leagues. It will however expand the talent pool available in the NRL>

2. Establishing junior leagues will not guarantee immediate success. Sponsors, supporters in both Melbourne and the Eastern Suburbs expect immediate results. Why invest in a longer-term strategy when it is easier to continue what is currently happening.

3. The NRL has been unwilling to mandate x number of junior clubs as a pre-requisite for ongoing membership of the NRL. What is the incentive for these clubs to change?

Kevin Walters storming out of his dressing room after the game mad at his players fir their inconsistent efforts in their close loss last night. Meninga commentating that they aren’t winning because of problems with their roster rather than execution issues.
Wow I wish we had their “roster problems”.

Stop the rorting of the salary cap or get rid of it.. it’s not an even playing field. From 2000 to 2023 either the Rorters or Storm have played in 16 out of 23 grand finals. Wake up Vlandys

The two responses available is either more spin or to ride it out.

As a club member I would understand if Benji felt minded to send some messages out to our senior players.

When you apologise and express remorse, that’s all Ok, but you should do something concerted to correct the error if you can.

If players get a leave pass, it’s not sending a strong enough message.

I’ve read the calls for his sacking in the media, but i think that depends on the balance of the season and the politics.

At the start of the season, Richo was gushing in his praise of Benji.

You believe the media??? Believing the media or the stuff they come up with.... feels the same as coming last......

I’m still trying to actually work out what happened v Cronulla then Parra earlier in the season ?
How did we win those two games, especially the ( ok I know Parra re crap now but they weren’t being spoken about like that then) ? And what’s gone wrong ?

I try to be objective, but fall short to emotion and frustration like everyone else.

There are multiple impediments to sacking Benji. He was supposed to be a good coach, but I think at least 33% of the Tigers rank and file held reservations based on his lack of coaching pedigree, his matey and dodgy appointment, who his role models were (Tim esp) , his involvement with the selection of the current roster, his image conscious media profile, his over-reliance on his wonderful career. Then we find out he leaves work early ( no one I know does that), mid season family holidays, joyless and matter of fact press conferences after the latest shafting, players in decline instead of improvement etc

I can’t be more objective than that AHX.

The leadership did/does not have the follow through experience. The players showed up

While it’s true Benji is inexperienced as a coach and clearly in a dilemma over what to do to motivate his players that have clearly become uninterested in putting in maximum effort for the Wests Tigers jersey, it is true what Andrew Johns stated on the Sunday Footy Shiw this morning, it’s not up to Benji to apologise to the fans, the players should be ashamed of their effort on Friday night and simply have to take a bit of pride in their performance and have a go.
I’m my opinion there is probably half a team that can be exempt from this criticism.
Two players I would like to highlight are Samuela Fainu. I watched him try his backside off, running the ball hard, tackling hard and generally leading our effort areas. As the game wore on I can only imagine how disheartening it was for him to see many team mates not showing any effort of care and I strongly believe this was a key factor on him eventually missing g a couple of crucial tackles that led to tries conceded, I definitely do not believe it was any lack of effort on his behalf.
The other player that often cops unwarranted criticism is Charlie Staines. Sure he was ineffective, but tell me what player could have done much better in his position. Like always he was never provided any quality ball, he was always the first to put his hand up and take the tough carries out of our danger zone, none of his carries were half hearted and why wasn’t someone else in our back 5 sharing the load ? That aside he didn’t miss a tackle and similar to Bula was given no opportunity to shine in attack.

Thats another thing. We have lone wolfs at best. Why cant we capitalise on their back of their enthusiasm. Why are we disjointed...
