Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If I'm Royce Hunt and told by Benji that 'come here, we want you to lead our middles, on & off the field, instil the steel & aggression in the middle we need & take your game to the next level, we'll get your fitness up to play the first 20 mins & last 20 mins of matches', I'm fired up!

Royce is a beast, doesn't take a backward step, runs hard, scores off crash plays & hits hard. He's played in the RWC final for Samoa with Luai.

He's the victim of being one of many middles at the Sharks so his minutes do get limited but he has played 40+ mins in games/tests.

C'mon Shinesy, get on the Royce train toot toot

The problem I’ve had is that there is literally nothing to connect him to Wests …. No rumours or media talk,,,nothing …

Do you think he might be in demand from other clubs ? If the answer is yes …then how will they get him to come here ? Let me guess … by paying him more money than he deserves over a longer contract than what you should give to a 29 yr old … I just don’t see Richo doing that .. and I wouldn’t want him too..

Besides …If I’m going to have a pipe dream about a prop with next to no chance of actually coming here than it’s going to be about AFB or Fisher Harris…

Is Api as good as prime Farah - Equal
Is Luai as good as prime Scott Prince -JL is much better. Once in a generation player.
Is Galvin as good as Benji - Never will be, not a snowflakes
Is Bula as good as Hodgson -Never will be. No freak quality.

Do yourself a favour and get the context of the comment.
But while we’re hear - most Teams in the 8 including those you’ve mentioned, don’t have trouble attracting talent…
Also don’t get bashed in the media from pillar to post every day…
Agreed.
Making the finals most seasons opens a lot of doors. You raise your ability to be determined as a destination club, thus attracting better talent on and off the field, you attract better sponsors all round, with 3rd party sponsorships a highlight and greater exposure equals more memberships and revenue.

No media talk is a good thing, Richo is keeping recruitment water-tight, look at the Turuva example.

Connection - the Samoan connection with Luai & he's close to Reuben Porter via family.

Opportunity - to be a leader & 'the man' of the pack which he won't get anywhere else. It all depends what his aspirations are.

We can’t change the past.

Maybe the club needs to stop focusing on signing new players & starting focusing on why players that come here regress (apart from Api). Also why is it that so many players leave & hit career best form… Talau has been 1 of the signings of the season on a low-ball contract because how bad he looked last year. Blore & Brooks also been good for the most part, I’m sure Papalii will be back to one of the best 2nd rowers next season when he joins Penrith.

It’s good to see guys like Pole, Fainu + Galvin trying hard but if the team constantly keeps losing they will stop caring too so the cycle continues until they leave revive their careers. Stefano is just another example of this now. there is a reason Bellamy wants him badly, I guarantee if he goes to storm he’ll be playing for NSW in either 25/26
I think a lot of that comes from having better cattle around them. Winning is also a great psychological boost. Perhaps also because there is not as much pressure they have a 'limited' role which is defined.

This gets said a lot but it doesn't really stand up to scrutiny. Most players who have left the Tigers have absolutely not set the world on fire. Going through the list: Aloiai is worse than he was here, Hastings is exactly the same, Peachey never came back to first grade and Daine Laurie hasn't done so far, Gildart vanished without trace, so did Maumalo, Madden is a nuffie, Liddle is no better than he was at the Tigers, Ofahengaue is a bench player at absolute best, Musgrove is out of the comp, Luciano Leilua has got worse, Matterson had one good season and is now chronically meh, Garner is a fringe first grader at best, Mbye carried on his downward trajectory, Marsters and Lolohea vanished without trace. Even Brooks is basically the same as he was at the Tigers just with DCE alongside him and on a smaller contract.

The problem isn't that players magically become better when they leave the Tigers; the problem is that we've had too many bad players in first grade.

I think Richo's "Cone of silence"
is not all that great.

We, the Members & supporters of this Club, should get some info from the hierarchy about anything.
No leaks?
How would the club keep anything secret if it told members what was happening all the time ?
Anyone can be a member.
I am happy being a member and knowing nothing except the fact that there are “no leaks”.

He was born in Liverpool, so technically he’s our junior and would be returning to his roots.

can we get him up to 35 mins a game if he comes here ?

Between him and Klemmer we would be up to 60 minutes then ..probably for a $1.4 m outlay between them
We could sign plenty of props who can play bigger minutes, but most of them are as soft as pillows.
I don’t know about you, but I think we already have far too many like this.
Between Pole,Twal and Seyfarth they have no problem playing big minutes, but we need some fire and brimstone to complement them.
Personally I’d be happy to take the risk with NAS.
NAS and Royce Hunt in tandem could be devastating.
Being stuck with Klemmer on big money for another season is a problem as his wages could be much better spent elsewhere.

I feel that Hunt could take Jordan Miller under his wing too especially in the gym and work some of that baby fat off him (i.e. Hunt is one of the strongest players in the NRL)
