John Bateman #268

This is just another brick in the wall of shame that the tigers have become. We can't keep the Ute and other players want out. There is no future development of players, especially forwards with Benji at the helm. Why would young players with any potential want to stay here, when you can develop and win at other clubs such as Panthers, Easts, Storm, dogs and more.We are a basket case and unless an experienced coach and assistants are found, Benji is not the answer to get this club back any time soon.

Interesting Sammy Burgess is coach at Warrington. Richo is close to big Sam.
I can’t see Bateman returning from England and I guess he will kill it there and bridge the gap in a contract. Has value as he doesn’t count as an import player.

Just another example of a player we got 3-4 years past his prime. He was a different beast at the Raiders.
He is the same guy. Just the game changed.
You know what it was. In a time before the PVL changes to speed up the game, John was pretty unique cat. Coming from the Uber fast Super league into a predominantly grind oriented game John was a point of difference because he was different, he would rush a blindside, kick at the line, he had all the skills of a back with the toughness of a forward.
Not to mention his approach to the game galvanised the Raiders but he also wasn’t on his own, with fellow Englishman Hodgson and Whitehead they had a core group that could play the game faster then the opposition.
Now everyone loose forward seems to have similar skills, but they are conditioned to the toughness and the new speed of the game.

I think John needs to acclimatise for a season in order to be conditioned to the new NRL.

Clearly Richo has a lot of moving parts happening in the background, all of which would be extremely hard to negotiate in our favour. IMO this has something to do with those scenarios. We can only hope Bateman never returns, and I have no doubt Richo feels the same. You simply don't loan out your vice captain.

I'm so happy
Totally.
We certainly won't miss his errors and brain fart penalties, constantly putting us on the back foot.
A hog in attack to boot, runs with blinkers on.

Have no idea why people are upset about this. The clear out was necessary and it's happening.
Bateman, Papalii, etc are respectable names who have given very little to WT.
Kudos to Richo and the administration for not being afraid to make such decisions.

Well…supposedly he is coming back next year ..

Like everything else at the Wests Tigers …nothing is straight forward …let’s see how it plays out and if he stays there how much of his contract will remain with the Tigers

It's becoming a regular occurrence here where players just want out and we hold the door open with a wave goodbye
There's still nothing official about this?
It seems like we can’t coach them or at least inspire them? Players leaving with disappointment is an all too familiar trade mark.
Looks like Richo is fighting to get out of Moses’ squirrel grip.

Mate , please stop telling the truth, your killing me. lol.

I'm not totally convinced around the narrative that it's the Tigers fault these senior players don't aim up. IMO Api Koroisau is proving its on the individual to perform.

If you look at the players in question, I think it has more to do with them than us.

Bateman tries hard. As much as I have given it to him I've never questioned his effort, he is just dumb as dogs shit and past his best. Thats a bad combo to overcome. Smaller backrowers decline quickly.

Papali'i wanted out before he came here. He was never in it from the start. Lack of character right there.

Klemmer started to decline at around 26, 27 years of age. He went into self preservation mode to collect his pay check. He shows zero intent to have a leader of the pack mentality. That's poor character again. More on him than us.

So while we should and can be better as a club, IMO it's the poor character of the players we are signing that's the problem.

I've said for a long time, character needs to be the number one priority when signing someone.

1.Character
2.A desire to achieve something
3.And finally talent.

Workers who are hard and disciplined will lift us off the bottom along with enthusiastic kids.
Players like Ethan Bullemor, Jack Williams, Brad Parker, Kayal Iro. Adding 4 of these types of players round out the squad and allow us to progress. Then an elite outside back may become interested in joining a team on the up with a terrific spine and hard working group.

What do you mean by 'bridge the gap in the contract'?
And 'his value doesn’t count as an import player'?
