Wrong signing for the wrong job at the wrong time. We need leaders in senior positions. Even with Api who has been a wonderful signing doesn't seem that much of a leader to me. Definitely one of the best leaders we have had for a while but I don't know how much he pushes the boys to get the best out of them.

In terms of players coming here and not performing as well as before or players leaving and getting better at other teams, I am again putting down to not having good leaders. Of all the people that have left us and improved Aloiai, Matterson, Woods, Papenhuyzen, Papali'i, JAC, Brooks etc, I can't think of even one of them who has shown good leadership at their clubs. Tedesco is a clear exception and possibly up until this SOO, even Moses wasn't considered a good leader at Parra.

We need to hire senior players who aren't afraid of getting on the younger players' bad sides. Those who are relentless with their taining even if they don't perform that well in the games.

Tamou to me was a great signing but it just never worked out.

I'd give Luai co-captaincy and see if he can get the best out of these guys.

I think you make a very good point here tig. Leadership, particularly on field, is severely lacking and has been for many years. Players that show the way and drag the rest with them - it’s a quality of the elite players and perhaps Api is our only one. These are the guys that drive standards in training as well as in games. They enforce the coaches message and are uncompromising in the way it must be carried out. Culture is carried by them as well because any player coming in to the group becomes too afraid to let the leaders and teammates down. It’s why the top clubs have that next player up mentality.
It is essential that the next players we bring to the club add to this characteristic- Luai will be a good start with this.

Is it that the rest of the team sucks? Well we still had a decent forward pack last year (and this year). ...

Don't get me wrong, I love Api and what he brings to this team. I just wonder why we are sucking so much with what we actually do have.

Api has given it everything,and is the stand-up no9 in the nrl
Klemmer,Bateman and Paps are current/former internationals in tier 1 teams.Twal same in tier 2,and Pole one of the best young forwards in the comp
On paper,we shld dominate most teams upfront except the cheats from the east!
We don't even get close..our big name big $$ fowards are simply coasting...no commitment. No pride in the jersey..no soul
Stefano is the worst..like a concrete statue in defence

Our team lacks balance. Our most pivotal players are disadvantaged due to their ages.
Due to the speed of it, the game now favours youth and while we have it with two (of our) key players in the spine, they have little experience and struggle with their decision making under pressure.
Then, our older players look unable to perform under fatigue.

We also lack cohesion and on-field leadership. I honestly don't think I've heard/seen anyone actually rallying the troops, when we're under the pump.
There's not much X factor either.

Agree with others, winning the physical battle is critical.

These selections e plain a few things:

1) why Bateman wasn’t in the presser after the South’s loss… Benji ripped into him in the dressing room after the game and Bateman spat the dummy and refused to attend the presser.

2) Douhei attends the presser after the South’s game and Benji rips into the “Senior” players ….

3) Klem only playing 24 minutes

good on Benji sending a clear message to the so called Senior players…now replace them

Maybe Benji set himself some time limits for the year ,play 20 rounds then let fly , pin point where he feels the team has failed the season and give it to them straight , then swap out the duds over the last 6 rounds , If he and Bateman have had a spat Johnny won’t be back , club would be just saying he be back to keep it in house , If We loose Friday Benji must make more changes like

appi Hooker
TDS. Bench , just mix it up so we get them all having a crack

I could care less he has gone. I could care less how he has been playing.

The real issue for me is why do we have trouble with these type of guys and it always ends in tears. I dont buy the spin the club puts on this so called rebuild/ new era. Same old problems.

We move from one player drama to the next. It cant be ALL the players. Its the club!

Nothing will change anytime soon if the playing group is still fractured and not all players are buying in.

Maybe its up the club to do a better job of selling them a better future.

Or getting a coach that can coach.

Gotta cut your losses early. Bateman simply hasn't made a difference and has negotiated this "make exceptions for me" style contract where he gets to spend half the pre season in England.

Klemmer is ok, but expensive for the output he gives.

Papalii had one foot out the door before he even arrived so good riddance.

Stefano on the money he is asking is not worth it plus he probably doesnt want to be here.

We are short a high quality winger and 2 starting props as a minimum. We will need to add another back rower too.

Hopefully some players become available during pre season and we can lift the standard around the place.

The best nr9 in NSW was overlooked because NSW wanted to win.
Maybe Api is not happy?
But what is effecting his drop in form?
I think Luai will really shake up this joint with a Richter scale reading like no other player has, if we can only get one good season from him.
Does anyone else think we should be working hard on improving the reputation of our players?
