John Bateman #268

Got sick of defending Bateman for weeks, and Papalli up until he was injured - it's like I'm watching a different game to others. They both pick up the slack for the young blokes who don't have the strength/physicality to match the opposition and or the work ethic. Not having a crack at the young blokes but its just a fact about where they are at.
They both consistently average 35 - 40 tackles a game and play 80 - and our defence has gone to crap since one or both have been out. On occasion they will both get iced against speed - all forwards do and they may not be the game breakers but we are stronger outfit when they are both there.
I support the coach its no quick fix and his options are limited but a team of too many youngsters at this level is asking for disaster.

The only constant in these messy break ups is Marshall. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall the team being so disjointed.

Wests Tigers forward John Bateman has been released from his playing contract to join English Super League club Warrington Wolves for the remainder of the 2024 season.

John is contracted to Wests Tigers for the 2025/2026 seasons.

Not at all. In an organisation that struggles to win games, the experienced guys are essential. Letting them go early because some kids are sometimes doing well and not replacing them is poor business. If the senior blokes are letting us down as you claim, then you manage them, you coach them. You dont let them cut their contracts short. That is the weak way out.

This is a bloke that’s come back late from Christmas holidays both pre-seasons he’s been here isn’t it?
then gone back home for a holiday mid season….

Is he making these decisions?
 
I believe so, that’s what I heard as well they said Bateman has left the club. And super coach said that’s the first i heard of it so i guess it’s true. He also said it’s not my job to know?????

Could be argued that, as he has been released from his contract, he does not have a con tract with the club.
