CMFEU VIC in strife…been a long time coming.

These mobs are scum.
They strong arm contractors regularly and not through professional channels. I’ve seen “negotiations” take place in pubs, with real threats of violence attached.
When I was around 30 I remember the CFMEU growing in my area. They recruited a heap of tough guys and one day we were on site and they walked straight in screaming through a megaphone going from floor to floor bellowing at all workers to stop work and get their arses down to the courtyard for a “meeting”. I recognised a lot of them, hard buggers from footy, pubs and gyms. Once they assembled everyone the president then climbed an 8 foot ladder and stood there shouting the filthiest language you’ve ever heard about how the builder was a pack of C…s and we should all walk off site. The builder, mostly represented by young engineering grads stood there in shock as these blokes stood over them roaring, telling them to take a swing. Their crime? A water bubbler on the second level had been hit by a scissor lift and was broken.
I told my boys to return to work and was abused to hell and back.
The sooner we eradicate these filthy rats from construction the better.

There do have to be unions in place though Tucker , especially when it comes to safety and employers doing the right thing by their workers particularly their pay and conditions however in saying that there should be no room for standover tactics in this day and age

Yes they need to exist to balance the scales, but why do they need to be militant and why on earth should they be elected to government?

Ive never had good relationships with them.
As a worker I found them fairly toothless and that they spent more time big noting themselves then working for members.
As management I found them to be obstructionists with little provocation. They were always on the phone whining about something.
As a business owner....they are simply the enemy.

Well i know for a fact they are needed , i have worked in places in the past where there have been deaths due to to employers incompetence as well as mere accidents that happened where employers were letting unskilled workers using heavy machinery, but i do see both sides as I don’t believe unions should be crippling businesses if they are doing the right thing

31 years a member of a union and most of those as a delegate. We did seek to improve the working conditions of our members especially our female members, equality in the workplace, harassment and improvements to maternity leave and super for mothers. When my eldest son joined the workforce as an apprentice, my first advice was to join the CFMEU. Amazing how a phone call from the Union results in an immediate modification of behaviour by those who aren't doing the right thing. This is a minority.

It’s not a minority in the CFMEU. They have always been scum. I used to laugh at them as wannabe gangsters when I was on the tools. It was only as I grew into management and eventually business ownership within this feral industry that I realised that they actually are gangsters.
They are criminals who don’t give a god damn about the working man. Fake platitudes about safety whilst corruptly operating within vendor selection and contract negotiation rooms.
I hate their guts.
I hate their members as well to be honest. They are always the most entitled, laziest bastards on site.

Im with Tucker on this. These DISHONEST PRICKS rolled into a big building jobsite I was on, demanded everyone join the union, & promised the boys they would get them air conditioned lunch rooms , pie warmers,a coffee machine, fridge & freezeers. Took all boys the union fees, pissed off & they got nothing. Funnily enough, we moved to another large job site about 5 months later , the same scumbags came in uttering the same promises, but the majority of the boys ran then off the site because of the previous dishonesty. UNIONS ARE SCUM. All our workers have moved from the scumbags super scheme CBUS. Complete & utter DIRTBAGS

Could not have been a more stereotyped post. Go back to the Manly forum.

Tucker, we deal with our issues through the independent umpire, the IRC. Mind you I am retired now but am extremely proud of our role in improving the working conditions of our members. One of the major issues I dealt with was the bullying of women where english was the second language spoken in their families. When the bullies were confronted legally, they became chocolate soldiers as you would expect with those heroes wanna be tough guys.

So Winston what are you doing supporting WTs? I mean you don't seem like the left leaning type except for your love of unemployment benefits since 45. Balmain has traditionally been a blue collar and heavily industrialized/unionised area. The maritime industries - the State Dockyard, Cockatoo Island. The latte sippers on the East would be a better fit for you.

Paws, i have no doubt you acted admiringly in that situation & no one would disagree with the good you did there. Being in the building industry for 35 years every experience I had or have been told by the countless peers i have met, has been one of lies & standover & extortion tactics. Unfortunately mate i think your honesty & integrity was the exception, rather than the rule.

There's good and bad everywhere, others believe in shades of grey. In my previous employment, there were no unions allowed so I appreciated the protections of the workforce and their conditons offered by unions.
