Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Panthers are 1 of the smartest clubs in the comp & certainly wouldn’t be trading To’o the best winger in the comp for Stef… more realistically I think they would be wanting a half in return. Hypothetically, if Galvin behind the scenes is still saying he doesn’t want to sign an extension would anyone really be opposed to that trade? Would be a smart piece of business IMO & better then letting him leave for nothing in return. Would still be able to run Latu & Luai out for the future 🤷‍♂️
This isn’t any inside info just putting some pieces together that I think could be happening behind the scenes
Juice let's see how Galvin feels about the WESTS Tigers after he has played half a season alongside LUAI? He may just want to extend his contract at WT with more pennies in his bank account. I must admit I had a good snigger at your above post suggesting it would be a smart business deal in trading one of the best young talents the club has had since BENJI. I look forward to seeing more of your posts if you really do get some "inside information".

Juicy information

who’s taking the carries in our red zone on plays 1-3? because it sure as hell ain’t the forward pack.
Media figures such as Braith Anasta and Bryan Fletcher have recently stated how important it is to a teams success to have a back 5 that can win the yardage battle when coming out of the danger zone in plays 1-3.
Jacob Kiraz dies a brilliant job at this for the Bulldogs and he is getting way under paid, but that another story.
However Brian To’o is clearly the best in the NRL in this regard, so paying him 800k or 900k per season, whatever it takes is well worth the investment and our forwards would me so much better for it with the pressure it takes off them.

If Braith Anasta or Bryan Fletcher stated that jumping of bridges is fun... would you figure in that????

Wasn’t Moses the biggest talent since Benji? How bout Stef wasn’t he the next big thing? I hope Galvin does stay for 15+ years but I guess we will see what he decides as he knocked back the extension talk multiple times already

The To'o thing in my mind has to be driven by contract values & making cap room. I guessed at Utoikamanu. But maybe it's Talagi?

Both players fit a need for the Panthers. Both would be big contract numbers.

I'm starting to actually believe the To'o stories.
maybe To'o caught wind of what they offered Talagi...

Come on over To'o we'll open you with welcome arms my man

It is an interesting connundrum that has been raised re; Galvin and To'o.

On the surface, To'o certainly improves us. His returns are better than our front rowers and he is a finisher.
For a 26 year old, he has achieved a hell of a lot so far and that experience makes him an old head on young shoulders - invaluable to a squad on and off the field.
Galvin has shown a lot of promise. He is a born NRL player, looking extremely comfortable mixing it with players he used to look up to as a fan on tele. His skill set, body composition and IQ make him a valuable commodity in the league. Is he a 5/8th? I dont think so personally, but he could be a world class backrower...I see lots of rep jerseys in his furture there.

Should we trade Galvin for To'o? Its a decision that could make or break the club.
  • Galvin has a career likely stretching to another 15+ years. To'o would have less than 10 left.
  • Galvin is versatile - 5/8, backrow, centre. To'o is a meter eating winger.
  • To'o provides immediate impact. Galvin still has training wheels on.
  • To'o has huge history with Api and Luai as well as Turuva, Staines and Naden. Galvin is still building combinations and relationships in firsts, but does have them with the young guns coming through.
  • Us losing a lot of experience this year in the pack would be a plus for To'o as he picks up some of their slack...something our replacements would certainly require.
At the end of the day, it will come down to that meeting that Richo had with MR and Mrs Galvin and Moses. Did he tell them to STFU until its time to negotiate a new deal? I think so. Galvin has credited Joey Johns with changing his mind, not the club. Is he on a countdown timer until November next year? It would be extremely naive to think that Moses hasnt been chatting behind the scenes and doesnt already have initial ballpark figures communicated to him from the big clubs.

Its a tough position to be in for Richo.
Does he take the risk that Galvin will re-sign with us and not try the swap deal? This will supply short term pain for potential long term gain, persuant to bringing other players here to keep the kid on the hook.
Does he trust his gut that Lachie will go and do the deal? Only Richo knows the likelyhood of this one based upon conversations completed. This will supply short term gain for potential long term pain. A return to the finals in 2025 would be more likely with To'o in the team than Galvin. That said, what is the ceiling?
Does he come up with some ingenius way of getting them both here? Who else could he offer? Turuva and Matamua as an example?
Im sure he is very busy at the moment. There is a lot more going on than we could come up with as a collective unit on here Id suspect...

Whatever happens, the drama that is Wests Tigers will remain the top billed show in town.
I love your takes Tucker, another determining factor is Latu. From all accounts, he is the best Fainu. If that is true, are we really weakening one position to strengthen another?

With these Penrith boys, Fainus and Pole, we have a core group of players we can build a successful team around.

Blaize to Penrith doesn't make sense to me... he's not going for the fullback position as Edwards is there.

The Mclean brothers will both have starting spots next year - they're legit freaks.

Tago just re-signed on a massive deal.

Alamoti has been playing great football.

But where does that leave To'o or Talagi?

Talagi notifying Parra he's leaving and potentially taking up the Penrith deal on the same day To'o is meeting up with the club pushing for a release could work in our favour.

I understand people saying why would Penrith release him (which I understand) however this isn't your average situation. To'o is a club junior spanning over a decade within the system who has put his body on the line for the badge like no other player in that team, he re-signed with the club due to the vision they were all staying together on low $, he has won 3 premierships in a row going for 4. He has more than paid his dues for that football club and has earned the respect and right to be able ask the club for a release on the basis of getting money he has never seen before or could be offered if he was to stay and to be able to take that opportunity to help provide for his new upcoming family. We're talking upwards of an 800k upgrade overall within his current deal.

I hate when players who have done nothing or brought no success to a club start demanding a release like they've earned the right to do that. I feel like there should be an element of respect in sport where if a particular player has done so much for a football club and are able to make way more money if they left for the benefit of there family that it should be something seriously considered - especially if that same club can't offer the same $.

I think there's two ways this can go - either To'o stays at Penrith on an upgraded deal or they let him go to take it up somewhere else. If neither of those 2 outcomes happen for To'o it gives you a massive indication on how Penrith treat their legends because he certainley deserves way more than he's on.

He's already experienced the highs of NRL. Maybe he wants to experience the lows?
