Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Harden up, he’s been an utter shonk, then he’s broken ranks and like Stef we continue to roll out the red carpet.

Benjis appeasement policy.

Sends a bad message to the kids. They need to learn to respect the jersey, it has to mean something.

Benji, take the spoon like a man per the rest of us buddy.

Play the kids.

Benjis idea of an honest discussion with senior players this year has been asking them if the ice bath is too warm for them.

At least you have your cows for the finals, although I’d rather swallow draino than wish that cheating mongrel Feldt a good game.
I love it when people write fictional fairy tales.

Duncan came on last night and worked his ass off around the ruck. One set he made the first 4 tackles and dominated the Storm. The next play he wasnt involved in and the storm almost went through. I saw the opposite to what you saw. I went to bed at half time, so cant comment past his initial stint, but I'm happy to say Duncan is a gun and I'd love to have him.
I'm not completely sold on Duncan, but at worst he strengthens the squad. Doesn't add a lot in attack, but my argument has been that our middles don't need to add much more- they just have to stop the others.

Interesting- only 1 Souths player broke 100m last night & I didn't sit there thinking they were totally outplayed. So looked at the Storm. Loiero was a standout, but only 3 forwards broke 100m. What I did notice- worst defensive players tackled at 89.5% tackle efficiency. They just don't miss tackles in the middle.

Would sign him up in a heart beat , but with Bennett coming next year he ain’t leaving south’s

Big slow forwards, with limited lateral movement?
Twal, Seyfarth, Miller, Johannssen
I know Stef isn't slow, but he's not mobile either.
We need forwards, a prop and probably two backrowers, just saying we need mobile forwards.
Definitely disagree with Johannssen being big and slow. I think he is quite mobile for his size. I also think Seyfarth and Twal aren’t “Big & Slow”. I’d say Stefano, Klemmer and Miller are definitely the big and slow forwards.

With Johanssen confirming he is one of many retentions soon to be announced at the club are we seeing the sliding doors of youngsters?
Ideally the players also getting retained are the likes of: Fonua Pole and Sione Fainu.
Im not that interested in resigning Porter due to his age and also the fact that if we sign a second rower he very likely gets leap frogged.
Tumeth and Feledy go off contract in 2025 and are able to negotiate in November. Both of them i would be happy to see walk. Feledy is pretty decent in KOE but that has not translated at all.
Tumeth is nothing. I still do not understand what the club saw in him ever. Last year Magpie signed players like BWM and Boyling out played him every week. Due to his lingering injuries Sukkar has jumped him as the Second rower to develop.
I do feel they may of jumped the gun on Johanssen. 2 years?!? Really? After one game. I feel he might become a magpie vet and i'm not annoyed about that. He wouldn't be on top dollar either.
Due to Stefano leaving and his 800k being added to the war chest that can be used to extend/sign youngsters and I love that. Depth in the forward pack is what we need. Some more 2 rowers and I am very. Hassett looks the goods. More to follow ....

Twal is the Swiss army knife of our forward pack- he's athletic enough to do multiple roles & can play big minutes. Great squad player. But he lacks the dominance in a tackle. If we can get some more dominance through our recruits- hard men that don't get stood over- Twal is a reliable player to have, and somewhat underrated in my opinion.

Alex needs to look more ferocious . Grow a beard . tatts ,get some photos taken with some bikies , ditch the sign of the cross. When he runs on the field the opposition must think 'Gee what a swell guy!".

Twal, Klem, and Miller are definitely all big and slow. Seyfarth isn't as big or slow, but he's also definitely not agile

Thats the issue with our coaching we don’t have a clear plan for these players to bunker down, train, play and perfect a position. Papa said we could tell him how he would be used and looked elsewhere. Twal best season was actually at lock.
Pole has been shifted from lock to prop every few weeks. Our junior forwards are moving positions every week.

It’s like they turn up to training and pull a card from the deck that tells them what position to play in that week.

Our coaching and development structure is at fault here, it doesn’t enable the best success plan for the player and inhibits our squad quality.

Until we fix that we will continue to struggle with quality players in specialist roles and be using bandaid style recruits instead.

No, he's not.

He's that trusty old knife you've had in the utility drawer for a few decades, not super sharp but get's the job done, does a job, one job, it's not the best at what it does, but it's still better than some of the cheap newer options around

I like the recruitment of Hassett from the Panthers if true. I read that Bennett was very keen to recruit him and the Dolphins believed they had him until the Panthers upped their offer at the 11th hour.
That was about 18 months ago to be fair, he hasn't seemed to have progress as much since.

So, a good squad player to have around, yeah?

Andrew Johns came up with a good idea to help lower tier clubs; he called it a “compensation fee” which must be payed when purchasing a local junior from said club. It’s to help compensate the club who has spent time and money developing these juniors rather than develop then lose with no gain.

For example if Storm come and say “we want Onitoni” they would then on top of the contract they have to pay for would then have an additional fee which we get which could be $100,000. Just helps clubs pick of the lower tier clubs.
Unless the fee gets added to the salary cap the development club is allowed to spend it won't help. They make a quid for developing juniors who leave to join another club, but can't then spend it on attracting players to their club.

The big problem is that this knife has long been susceptible to being blunted quite easily through normal contact head knocks.
