Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

That's how I see him too. Usually those that present toughness by standing too close to the play the ball at marker, niggle at every opportunity, give penalties away deliberately, get in scuffles knowing no punches will be thrown are the ones who can't fight. It's a pretend toughness he presents and I think it's obvious. The real tough players do it throw physicality, not niggle.
Tino’s hit on him after his niggle was something to behold. Tino is is proper tough

..he was a standout in the under 12s!!
Seriously, thats the reality..Bellamy assesses their physical attributes..speed/size/agility etc...and then their attitude incl appetite for hard work..to ascertain wheher kids are gonna develop into something resembling a NRL player, and if so,then sprinkles his magic dust to make that happen
We just sign em if they were good juniors without any understanding of how they mite evolve into something special
Yeah, it’s an art and a science.

The Broncos had that guy, once there was a young candidate, he would take the player to the ground and put them through their paces. Apparently amongst other skills and attributes he put a lot of emphasis on their ability to change their direction at pace. Strange to me, but…

And by putting him though his paces, I think that’s how Flanno and SGI identified the injured young warrior player during the pre-season.

Couldn’t throw the ball freely, which they noticed and all hell broke loose and he was popped back on the plane-return to sender.

There was a short contractual scuffle and I think the warriors got caught.

Pity for the kid, but he knew he wasn’t right.

So on BTR, Chris Warren alluded to some club extensions being announced next week including Tim Johannssen for 2 seasons.

Given we have only 1 roster spot (that we know of) in the top 30 for next season currently available with Stef's departure, I reckon these announcements will be for the Supplementary list or Train & Train list.

Under new salary cap rules, the Supplementary list is for a minimum 4, maximum 6 players on $80,000 each with $3K bonuses for NRL games (cap of $650k), can play from Round 1. This used to be called Development contracts.

Train & Trial contracts are now $1,200 per week, $3,000 NRL game bonus, can play from Round 11.

I'm predicting the following ...

Supp List (note- thinking they will want NRL ready players in this group)
- Heath Mason (already contracted for '25)
- Alex Lobb (already contracted for '25)
- Solomona Faataape
- Reuben Porter
- Nav Willett
- 1 spot left to fill

T & T contract (note - looking mainly at those who are Jersey Flegg this year but given experience in Cup already)
- Tim Johannssen (23 next year)
- Cayne Nicholas (22 next year)
- Vaka Aho (22 next year)
- Herman Tofaeono (22 next year)
- Bailey Hodges (22 next year)
- Lachlan Broederlow (21 next year)

* I reckon the next 4 weeks will determine whether Sione Vaihu & Jimmy Ngutlik get a T&T.

Then the following pathways to also go on / stay on part-time T&T contracts:
Makasini, O Large, Godinet, Taupau-Moors, Haywood, Duncombe, Isdale.

Then recruit another 4 or 5 externally on T&T contracts who bring experience & leadership to our Cup squad.
And then we can all get some sleep. Once it all finalised. My wife will be over the moon.

Is there a limit to how many T&T contracts can be given to players per team?
Second to that do the 3k NRL match payments for T&T and Supplementary contracts apply to the Top 30 salary cap?

12 teams remain in finals contention. Don’t expect players from those clubs to announce a move a month before it gets serious.

I've never really understood that. If a player is off contract and negotiating for next year, what's the big deal if his future has been settled and it gets announced? His team mates would already know he is leaving, so what's the difference?
Watching Jack Williams now playing lock for the Sharks, who has been off contract all year. If he has singed with us, I see no issue announcing it tomorrow.

It’s a psychological thing, these boys have been ripping in since November with winning a comp together being the main driver. You don’t want anyone to say a month out from the main event, I’m off boys. It goes against the feeling you want in the group. Some clubs will even do drinking bans and the like around this time, winning the big games is really why you play.

Lol, but they know anyway. Do you think if we signed Williams this week his team mates don't know?

I don’t think Williams will sign with another club this week, I’m sure his manager is doing work in the shadows, but the player would just want to focus on footy.

There’s probably exceptions but I really doubt it will happen on masse for the reasons I mentioned.

Apparently Benji has indicated we have signed a lock that isn't getting enough minutes at another club. Could only be Williams or Duncan IMO.
