Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

it’s quite possible, but the question is whether they’re leaving school at the end of this year.

Yeah, final year of school, I'm hopeful they could do
a Sua'ali'ii at Kings and get exemptions. They're not
regular students that play sport they're exceptional
athletes that will both play football professionally.
Up to the parents and club but no age requirements
for development contracts, odd Craig & Willetts gone

Nav’s a wonderfully talented footballer but he was externally recruited by Sheens and McDonnell and as a result this was always a chance of happening, especially now considering Skelton has just pushed him further down the depth chart.

with Craig reportedly heading to Penrith and Willett now gone, something tells me Richardson is tinkering with development contracts.
Willet must have been given permission to look elsewhere. And Richo new Skelton was coming, and didn't see much value in Willet and what he probably wanted. We will be fine without you. By By.
Willet couldn't do all that negotiating in less than a week after hearing Skelton was coming so the pecking order was not the reason.

Agree Richo is working on a plan, and I like the way he goes about it.
Putting a tick for players he wants to keep: And players that can shop elsewhere for a better deal.

For now, it's a pretty big blow. Our outside back stocks in the juniors are paper thin. Nav was great aerially, and as he fills out he will become a lot more powerful with the ball. Not super fast, but as fast as nearly all our current NRL backs.

Staines, Naden, Lobb and Toa are all bog average, Staines the pick of the three. All could easily be axed.
With Skelton joining that's one decent winger at the club next year. Ngutlik is only just coming back from injury, has potential.
The likes of Faatape and Casey offer nothing. Saukuru has potential but has been injured this year and is a centre more than winger.
Laulilii has talent but is just very small, questions on his defence and high ball skills, and ability to just compete in the nrl level.
The Taotua boys have been in and out of Flegg. No wingers of note in Ball or Matts.

The only possibilities that would make this make sense:
1. Makasini and Large are on Dev contracts next year so we needed to free up the spot, it's fair to rate both higher than Nav.
2. Manly are trading us someone quality like Hopoate or Koula in exchange
3. We've signed another young star winger from elsewhere who we rate better than Nav.

If none of the above conditions come true then this is a massive stuff up from the club yet again. We must always have too much talent that we can't fit in, cherry pick and can't keep them all, but if we offload first and then hope to secure better that's just amateur. We really should be getting a trade from Manly regardless, can't just give them another Paseka for free.
1 or 3 are the only possibilities. To think manly would trade Koula who is one of the most exciting young centres in the comp for a guy that’s never played first grade is insane… Hopoate is also 0 chance as he’s extended until 2027 not long ago. If we are talking about a realistic trade maybe Brad Parker or Faulolo is on the cards

Who’s the better player between Large and Makasini? What are their player comparison to any current players? Heard huge wraps from both but don’t know much about them 🤷🏽‍♂️

They have their own threads here with clips and about
what they're up to and what not. Generational talent.
I'm going to feel like a proud uncle when they debut

Makasini has an Israel Folau style game. Not saying he will reach his level but style wise has great size, strength, speed and aerial ability. Breaks plenty of tackles with his natural strength.

Large is a running 5/8, with speed and size. Natural athlete but not a great playmaker as of yet. Blaize Talagi is a good comparison.

If we are short of top 30 and development places, why would we need a trade? Manly will just take a talented junior.

The Manly Sea Eagles are set to sign one of the tallest players in NRL history, giving rival fans a new giant reason to hate them. Plus, a star Broncos duo seen performing a selfless act for the homeless. SPORT CONFIDENTIAL.

Manly are set to sign one of the tallest players in NRL history – with 201cm big man Navren Willett agreeing to join the Sea Eagles from next season.

Willett has come through the ranks at the Tigers but it is understood he will join Manly next season on a train and trial deal before being given a top 30 contract in 2026.

Only Brisbane giant Ben Te Kura at 205cm will stand taller than Willett with his height matching that of Melbourne prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona.

Willett is a winger who has scored two tries in three games for the Magpies in NSW Cup this year.
he will be one we will regret letting go

Onitoni is lightning quick.. I’m talking Hammer quick ,,

From what I have seen of Nav, good in the air, not overly fast, doesn't make big yards from kick returns as only lanky at this stage but does possess good ball skills and can chime into the backline well. I reckon he's a fullback.
Yeah he was fullback up here, it's group 3, bush footy no where near NRL standard

I started to think who are big, bulky and freakish winger / centres that I can compare Makasini to and landed at Tulagi at the Cows who is a bit deceptive in skill and not the fastest player but is tough and hard as hell to bring down. Another one could the current WT Junior Tupou.
Then I got to the Large comparison and for a laugh used the same surname but I don’t think he is exactly like Blaize.
