OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

Thank you for the response.
I've only seen one side of it mate, I'll pay more attention moving forward.
People get me wrong about my thoughts on Galvin.
Out of all the young guns, he is the one that I hope has a 15+ year career with us. I’ve said before, I believe he will make a world class lock and the sooner he transitions, the sooner his journey begins towards a probable Kangaroo jersey.
As a 5/8th? I’m not so convinced. There have been moments of real poise and class this year but you have to realise he is running the attack. He touches the ball way more than his halves partners….any of them. When you see how disjointed that attack has been for the majority of the year, questions appear. Obviously his career can’t be judged on his first handful of games, but he needs help and I don’t think leaving him in first grade all year has really provided that.

There's obviously little structure and no control, no one calling the shots... It's clear at times during games he plays it by ear and doesn't know what he's doing until he does it... How do his backs know what's going on?
Dont get me wrong, I do understand the lack of overall structure. My opinion is that it will change with a good #7 who is steering the team around. Then it's a little more predictable for everyone else to know "lachys getting the ball, be on your feet".

Benji has devoted almost the entire season to defence. Just wondering when the attack training starts?

Galvin is better than Benji is as a player and he will become one of the greats.

Benji wasn’t consistent his whole career

One great pass - two terrible passes

One great kick - one run on 5th play in our half

Galvin is already showing more maturity than Benji was

Benji as a kid was good bc he had Scott prince and was dynamite that first year

But galvin will out play him over a whole career - just my thoughts
Surely this comment is a gee up ? 😄 🤣 same Benji that's form got us to the GF in 2005 who had one of the most memorable moments in a grand final that we won ? Same Benji that debut for the kiwis at 20 and played over 30 tests, same Benji who led them to a 2008 world cup victory against Aus , against 5 future immortals in Smith, slater, Thurston, Lockyer and Inglis . Same Benji that won the golden boot in 2010 , same Benji who's played over 340 nrl games who's being inducted into the hall of fame this week . Benji is top 5 5/8 in the NRL era, I could argue top 3 behind Lockyer and Fittler and maybe munster maybe. I like Galvin but he's got a long long way to go before you start saying his better 🤣 you could be right but we can revisit this comment in 15 years and see who was right 😆

The NRL DT podcast was saying we will struggle to keep him. This would be an absolute dagger to the heart of tigers fans. I know we have Latu but we cannot lose Lachy.
It would be a shame to loose him , but I feel he may just need 1 season with Luai beside him to get a deal done , he is under contract for 25/26 so he can’t go anywhere unless we let him , there is time for him to settle with Luai , I think he stays as well as Latu , he will stay as well

Taking a step back, I can see how you can see him as a potential #13.

The challenge in trying to transition him there now is that he's 19 and a pretty good #6. I doubt that in any world would he see himself as anything but a #6, for now.

I also think that that transition has to occur naturally. He is still quite lanky and would need to bulk up to have any success at the NRL level. Whilst his attacking as a #13 would be great, he isn't there defensively yet compared to great locks of the game who will complete 30+ tackles and also have energy to attack.

But I can see how down the track with latu, lachlan and luai all on the books, how that could be the long term plan..... but I'm always concious of trying to move players into a new position e.g. Lawrence from the centres to 2nd row... it wasn't a success.

I doubt Galvin will have thousands and thousand of kids up and down the east coast & NZ imitating him.. or trying to
Agreed,

I think we need a better comparison. Benji is a unique freak of a player and IMHO I can only think of Sandow who came close to his playing style.

Galvin, Reminds me of .. A little like Fittler, Josh Reynolds, etc. We still haven't seen who he will become. He won't be a Benji, that's fine.

He won't be any of them mate. He will just be a Galvin.

Said it before.....
I don't know he'll get close to the level of,
But he really reminds me of Jonathan Thurston....

He's Everywhere, In Everything, All of the Time....
Gutherson has it as well, although from a different position - If he were in the Front line he'd be similar....
That sort of Tenacity is very rare, I can't really think of anyone outside
JT and Gutho in recent times I've seen it....

As I Said,
Lachie may not get to the level of JT (Or even Gutho) And that's fine....
But it won't be from lack of effort!!

- That kid (If he sticks around) could single handedly drag us off the bottom of the ladder....
He's already dragging them around as an 18 yr old Rookie.
Franchise Player.

I think you're right to a point....
Although I think Lachie can make it as a 6.
As it is, He's just young, enthusiastic and Trying to hard...
He's very erratic - You can even hear it in him when he talks.... (Million miles an hour)
Moses was also like that (Probably not quite as bad), Even up until the last few years at Parra.

I think in a better side,
Where he's not the main man - With decent coaching he'd be less erratic and not trying to win with every touch.... He'd be very different.
Kid is a born leader,
A couple years time we'll have a better gauge on where he is (Here's hoping it's still here)

I just hope he doesn't turn into a Tim smith. If anybody remembers tim smith he was the parra jnr who bust onto the scene in the 2000s , 40 try assists in the debut season , nrl rookie of the year, didn't do much after that. I think we should just wait and give galvin time. Kids only played 20 odd games. He will be targeted more next year . Let's see how he handles that 1st .

Nothing gets done single handedly in the top grade.
He needs to realise this isn’t schoolboy footy where he was the single star.
Use your team mates effectively and you will find success as despite what people claim, there is enough footballers in this squad to win many more games than they do.
