Latu Fainu #282

Did anyone see the kick he did on the left hand side? He had no space, and did an end on end bomb with one step.

I think he has a massive boot on him. I like him more in the centres than at lock if we are trying to fit in Galvin, Luai and Fainu. He's quick between the ears too, didn't take too many wrong options in his limited time.

But let's address that problem when we get to it, I hope to see him start off in NSW Cup next year and string a few good games together.
The more I think about it, not much changes if he moves from #6 to #13.

He can run the ball as he is now.
He can sweep around both sides.
If he really wants to kick, he can still kick.

As great as he played last night, I think he's holding onto the ball a bit too long instead of throwing the pass, where as with Latu's build, I think he'd be more inclined to pass a bit more...

I wonder if some peeps (especially a couple who sound like they have consumed ALOT of lines) get lost in the value Galvins self-belief offers the Tigers. I love the competitive back himself style too, we desperately need it in the team, but... surely people can see that his self-belief strength massively exacerbates his lack of speed and tendency to run sideways.

He will not get substantially faster. He can get substantially stronger.

At lock he could be a Fitler or Clyde. He can get loads of ball. He will bring immense value in being a link man who defensive lines can't automatically slide past. He can run when he chooses. As a 5/8 I feel he will only ever be a Wighton or a better Blake Austin. As a lock, with 10kgs more muscle on that frame he could be scary good.

Yes, maybe not next year... but too me the writing is on the wall.

Its good he has a high work rate and the idea of using him as a decoy is very attractive due to it. Sullivan actually used him like that as well and put on some nice tries earlier in the year.
Not giving him the ball every time he calls for it is a maturity thing and its something Luai will be great for. He will choose to hold back at times and when he does pull the trigger, defenses will be in two minds, and therefore in trouble.
I can see Sam Fainu scoring a shitload of tries next year, Beaver Menzies style.
Sam Fainu reminds me a bit of kikau at the start of penrith's dynasty

He’s the goods will play for Australia at 6. Was at a lunch with some former blues it’s consensus opinion. He’s a gun.

Three weeks ago, I would not have entertained the idea of Galvin at 13 for this exact reason.

I thought if we shift him to #13, we lose him....

But 3 doesn't fit into 2 (Latu, Galvin and Luai).

So the only way we keep all 3 is by making that move......

How it's going to go down? Who knows....

But after what I saw from Latu, I also desperately don't want us to lose him either!
And that shouldn’t change on the basis of one trick pass and an opportunistic try. I hope Latu comes on but he’s 18, he should be prepared to play second fiddle while we build the club back up.

Lol you’ve been arguing with and attacking me for weeks for saying exactly this.

Someone at the club must rate Latu.

I mean, they HAD Galvin already at the club.

Then spent very good money to bring him in.

Then spent even better money on Luai.

The club doesn't spend those kinds of dollars to not play them.

I’d say they identified Galvins versatility early on and have had alternate plans for him should he prove his worth.

It’s actually wonderful problem to have trying to squeeze them all in. Was Galvin guaranteed to transition into firsts so easily?

we’ve ended up with 2 seemingly good forwards with latu as well.

It’s just a shame who Galvin has as manager.

Sullivans contract is the problem.

Latu Fainu is one of the best young halfbacks in the NRL. That pass from cold to Seyfarth was simply outstanding. He played well without a lot of football behind him. He and his brothers are going to be sensational for WTs. The only downside is we cannot get his brother who plays hooker.

I absolutely agree 👍🏼 💯

Galvin is worth $800k next year and when he’s a free agent he’ll be over $1m

The hype is real and one team will pay him huge dollars on a long contract to be their franchise player
Look Galvin's agun but if the choice is between letting him go or paying him 800k-1 mil at this stage of his career you let him go.

We need to see more than 1 decent season before paying that kind of coin, plenty of players have burst onto the scene looking like a future immortal only to flunk out of the nrl a few years later

exactly

Yeah can’t imagine his teammates on 250-400 liking the situation of a 19 yo on that coin. Let alone the distortion on the salary cap.

He’s good but he’s not Michael Jordan yet.

if he wants to stay he’ll stay for a fair contract. The rumour of 5-6 release requests suggests he’s outa here. Also I think he was quoted on saying he’ll defintely be here next season (even though he’s contracted for more) or am I wrong on his contract length?
