Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Unless us taking Kobe frees up space for the Donkeys to take Horsburgh. I'd actually prefer Kobe tbh.
I’d say the only reason the Broncos would offload Kobe, so they can add a bigger body in Horsburgh.
No denying Horsburgh’s talent, but it’s nearly a sure bet that something would go wrong if he signed with us.
Our defensive line speed has been a big issue for a long time, Kobe Hetherington certainly adds defensive line speed and aggression we are so badly lacking.
I’d also like to add Jack Williams to our edge back row to add even more to our defensive line speed and resolve.
I understand Williams plays mostly as a 13 these days, but having the two of them would certainly add a lot to our line speed and general energy.
We would then just need a big body prop and a centre to complete very good recruitment.

I have zero doubts there are better centres than him in NSW/Qld cup willing to play for minimum wage. Every other club finds these types of players, we have to do the same.
Yeah but who ?
As I said I’m not a big fan of Remis Smith myself, but he’s taller, faster, a better defender and more capable of playing as a right centre than what Isaiah Tass is.
If we are purely looking at a left sided centre than Isaiah Tass would be ok, but while we have Olam he’s no use to us as he is useless when playing as a right centre.
There are virtually no centres standing out in NSW Cup or Qld Cup, the cupboard is so bare for quality centres that it’s scary.

Can’t say i have seen a lot of Hetherington but all reports describe him as a hardworking competitor and aggressive defender. Can play edge or middle. Sounds like just what we need!
Yeah me too, I thought, he’s a good defender isn’t he? So checked, and yes he is, 94%, run metres were low.
He’s not a metre eater, but I reckon we need one of each. We needed a good runner and a defender prop when mighty boy was here, now he’s going it’s even more important to get one of each.

He doesn’t generally play many minutes when the Broncos are full strength, so that would effect his metres gained stats.
I can’t help but think the other Qld based clubs will also be jumping in the queue to sign him if he becomes available, so it will take a lot th get his signature.
He is the all effort type of competitor that we need so it’s good to see we are at least hunting these types of players.

Yeah he seems like a decent buy, depending on the $$$. We could do with a hard working good defencer anyway.
They have him listed as a lock, is that where he usually plays?
Is he a cheaper signing than Horse for the same output and better discipline?

Sorry I didn't see your reply. I believe the Roosters will be keen and he is an outstanding young half. The lure of a return to Qld could be overwhelming for him. Concerningly for the Roosters who would know this well, players will accept less to return home.
The Roosters have under achieved with him at the helm. They saw what wins you titles, a Cooper Cronk.

No doubt they are on the lookout for the next Cronk.

By my estimations Horsburgh is looking at a minimum of 600k to consider joining us, I’d say we could potentially get Kobe Hetherington for 350-400 as he’d likely be on 250k at the Broncos.
Very different types of players as Horsburgh is a big body who runs hard and tackles hard, but a high work rate has never been his strength.
Kobe is a much smaller body, but brings good mobility, high energy, good aggression and a high work rate.
Kobe would easily make 40 plus tackles if he played a full game at 13 where you would be lucky to get 30 tackles out of Horsburgh.
I also think Kobe’s running game is underrated despite him being a smaller lightweight forward as his highly aggressive approach overcomes his smaller stature.
If we cannot get him, another option albeit 4-5 years older would be Adam Elliott who’s rumoured to be keen on heading back to Sydney.
Not forgetting you would sincerely hope Jack Williams is at the very top of our list for a smaller, high energy forward. I’m more thinking and hoping someone such as Kobe Hetherington is being looked at in addition to Jack Williams as a 13 and edge back row combination to replace Ice and Bateman.

Not sure how his centre rushed anything when he was playing centre at the time.

Bloody half of Forbes on this forum.
I stand corrected, after watching the game again it was Aiden Sezer defending inside him who rushed out of the defence line.

BTW, I'm not from the West (Forbes), I was brought up in Western Sydney but I've been living the life up North here on the Mid North Coast.

We're starting to get a few leaks again. Seems funny with the timing of Dennis returning to the board... co-incidence or not?

It's most likely the managers. But Richo has managed to keep a lid on them in the past. So not sure what to think.
it’s absolutely a fair question, but looking at the players we’re after it’s not a surprise given who their managers are.

Bird is with Tartak, Hunt is with Moses. Hetherington is linked to the Horsburgh deal, and Horsburgh’s manager told AAP they were coming to Sydney to discuss with us sometime this week.

as far as I can tell nothing’s really come from the club, but Brent Read is close to Richardson and would likely have contacted him to verify the links.

if you compare that to

Skelton = Aria
Luai = BME
Turuva = Mark Stewart

you begin to get an idea of what’s going on.

He heard of the $2m war chest and knows the tigers history. Likely thought he could get a big long term pay day
Exactly. Older players on the outer at their respective clubs who've become injury prone or somehow just lost form seem to look at the Tigers as a place where they can grab big $$ and have a good bludge.

It's happened time & time again over the years.
Rarely if ever do we see these types of players come over to the WT and actually play to their proven ability let alone improve.....they always seem to deliver nothing but disappointment.
The same thing used to happen to the Roosters a few decades ago, it became known as the "Transit Lounge".
Wests Tigers have been a "Transit Lounge" for years now, no matter who the head coach has been and that just has to stop.

The "We have to pay overs to attract players" argument is starting to wear thin when those "overs" time after time is being payed to broken down, injury ridden has beens or out of form shirkers just in it for the extra $$.

If he moved to Sydney I could see him being a Bennett signing at the bunnies.
