Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The biggest thing I got out of Richo today was we offload a few more players & sign 2-3 players...

We don't have 3 spots currently...

I am interested in Bird in how that changes the look of the back line.

Is Bird the utility we want? Or an outside back. What's the mean for Douiehi?

FB: Bula/Turuva/Mason

Wing: Skelton/Staines/L Laulilii

Centres: Olam/Douiehi/To'a/Bird*

NSW Cup: Feledy, Naden, Lobb...

NRL:

1. Bula
2. Skelton
3. Bird*
4. Olam
5. Staines
6. Galvin
7. Luai
9. Korosaui
13. L Fainu
14. Douiehi

NSW CUP:

1. Mason
2. Lobb
3. To'a
4. Feledy
5. L Laulilii
6. Naden
7. Sezer
9. Da Silva
13. Matamua
14. Hope (the new QLD cup player)

Sullivan to go?

Douiehi could be the odd man out?
I reckon Bird solves the 13 issue for a couple of seasons. We haven't really had a regular there and it's always someone playing out of position. Bird covers us for lock, second row and centres which helps a lot when reshuffles are required. That way you can free up Pole and Seyfarth out of lock and they can come off the bench/start in their usual positions.

14 will be Latu I'd say.

From there you need to add a prop and second rower.

I dont think we'll be able to release enough players to make room for more signings than that. Would be awesome to add a centre or winger with Turuva strengthening the weakest position depending on who is signed. Bird will not be picked at centre. Doueihi a slim chance there, but otherwise its reserves for him.

DT reporting Bird talks have stalled…good…I don’t rate him

He is looking for a retirement package. Last Sunday when running and stepping he looked like he was jogging up and down on the spot. Let the Dragons keep him. I would rather go with a younger player who may make a few errors but provides a whole lot more to the team without the sense of entitlement.

I think it's fantasy stuff to think players will just move to QLD on beer money for our benefit. Some of these guys still live at home with parents. Who is going to shoulder their rent and moving expenses? They already play KOE Cup...why would they move to play Q Cup?
Very true though Imo there is merit in the idea I never understood why the club hasn't got a sister club in qcup and super league to help develop our players before reaching N.R.L level. Like now with Bateman we want his contract off the books use the sister club in England to do it. Would just need to set up a hub where all the players could live if they didn't want to stay alone but that wouldn't be too hard to sort out through the ceo and Meriton working through a project togeather.

I don’t think Roosters are as keen on Walker as people presume. The chip and chase is hardly the “Roosters way”.
Sorry I didn't see your reply. I believe the Roosters will be keen and he is an outstanding young half. The lure of a return to Qld could be overwhelming for him. Concerningly for the Roosters who would know this well, players will accept less to return home.

There will never ever be a draft. Why do people bring it up? It got defeated in court as a restriction of trade for the players. The Players union has stated they'll never agree to one as well. Add in the fact that the NRL clubs also run the Jnr systems, it means there would be no incentive for an NRL club to spend a single cent on Jnr development if their players went into a draft.

The only systems a draft works is in the US where the colleges and schools develop the athletes and in the AFL where the Jnr system isn't run by the AFL clubs
That’s absolutely not true . The junior systems used to be run by the clubs in AFL and were handed over .
The self interest and narcissistic attitude in nrl is baffling and the reason the nrl can’t get out of its own way .
But you’re right in one sense , that people wouldn’t agree to it because of self interest .
No salary cap has ever been introduced in a sport without a draft , anywhere . They go hand in hand .
It’s one or the other . It’s either a free for all , with restrictions around spending re. Penalties and “tax”, or there’s a cap and a draft . That’s the reason the nrl has been lopsided for years .

Off the top of my head: the NBL, Premiership Rugby, Top 14 Rugby, Super Rugby, Superleague, A League, Super Netball. EuroLeague basketball may be about to introduce a salary cap. None of these have a draft.

2 years, total as much as 800k. So max 400k a year provided he meets certain benchmarks ie. Most likely 'games played', 'minutes played'.

That's if this is even true. Kinda strange how all players signed didn't get played out in the media at all but Bird was reported to have 'reached out to' us and now his salary hope gets published too. He isn't signing with us.
Yeah I understood no more than $400k a year, still too much and too long.
Seems like a decent bloke and I've always thought a very good player on his day. But his day was about 8 years ago.
