Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Not jumping on you mate, but, to be fair, he's been upfront about the connection, Wests. I think his son is friends with Mikey or family friends. Something like that.
It's all good mate. It just seems like every post from this guy is about this kid & sure he looks like a decent talent but Bula & Mason look far superior to this kid & we also have Onitoni Large coming in as a potential gun fullback option too. I think the club won't fall apart over Mikey Nassar Lol.

While I stand by what I've said there, I don't expect the same result with the signing of the Panthers pair coming next year.

I don't know about this guy Skelton, he couldn't crack it at the Dogs but the Rah Rah guys reckon he's a gun. He's getting payed peanuts though compared to some of the so called "Marquis" signings the Tigers have had in recent years that have turned out to be monumental flops.

Hetherington is the exact type of signing we need. We need attitude signings, no nonsense hard workers. Ethan Bullemor, Beau Fermor and Leo Thompson would set the standards.
And no ill disciplined hot heads (a certain soon ex Raider comes to mind).

We've already got our own hot head......but at least he is pretty disciplined as well.....he just stands up for himself & his team mates. Seyfarth is the only hot head we need in the side, controlled aggression.

We're starting to get a few leaks again. Seems funny with the timing of Dennis returning to the board... co-incidence or not?

It's most likely the managers. But Richo has managed to keep a lid on them in the past. So not sure what to think.
Yeah, not good…. someone is “talking@ to the media

That’s absolutely not true . The junior systems used to be run by the clubs in AFL and were handed over .
The self interest and narcissistic attitude in nrl is baffling and the reason the nrl can’t get out of its own way .
But you’re right in one sense , that people wouldn’t agree to it because of self interest .
No salary cap has ever been introduced in a sport without a draft , anywhere . They go hand in hand .
It’s one or the other . It’s either a free for all , with restrictions around spending re. Penalties and “tax”, or there’s a cap and a draft . That’s the reason the nrl has been lopsided for years .
The late great Terry Hill took the then NSWRL to court when (believe it or not) he wanted to sign with the Western Suburbs Magpies when he was actually drafted to go to the then Eastern Suburbs Roosters.
Backed by the RLPA and a few other players who didn't want to go to the club they were drafted to.
They cited "Restriction of Trade" and won the case in court. The NSWRL then appealed and the appeal was dismissed.
Needless to say, unless ALL the clubs & players are onside with it, there'll NEVER be a draft.

As much as many of us would like to see a draft & the competition evened out it's just wishful thinking. Maybe a better solution would be for ARL grants to be scaled so as the team who "wins" the spoon gets the biggest grant & it gets slightly reduced team by team and the Premiers get the least??

To me the best solution would be better cap discounts for clubs who's juniors are in the top 30 of their roster, it would certainly help the Wests Tigers a lot more than say the Roosters.

I’m operating on the assumption Bateman won’t get better money anywhere and also believe his skill set is ok among better players. Going off his international form anyway.
He'd be getting his big $$ if he stayed, but he'd be playing for the Magpies NSW Cup team & would only get a run in the NRL if there was a horrid injury toll on the first grade side.

Galvin can sign elsewhere from Nov next year… so they only have one more season to convince him to stay
Let's just hope he can be convinced to stay.
If he were signed by say the Roosters or Storm they wouldn't have him playing first grade, he's still raw. They'd have him in NSW Cup and wrap him in cotton wool until he got a lot more games under his belt.
At least at the Tigers he's a guaranteed starter, I hope he realises that.

And you can bet your bottom dollar he’s thinking along the lines of we need to be at least challenging for the top 8 in 2025, otherwise he’s out of here.
Pole is also a concern as he is Melbourne raised and it can be near certain they are very keen to add him to their Wests Tigers raid in light of their ageing middle forwards.

That being said, if he matures in leaps and bounds next year.....every coach in the NRL will want to sign him. Both the Titans & Cowboys are desperate for a good half back or 5/8.

That is a concern. He'd likely take less money to go back to Mexico.

it’s absolutely a fair question, but looking at the players we’re after it’s not a surprise given who their managers are.

Bird is with Tartak, Hunt is with Moses. Hetherington is linked to the Horsburgh deal, and Horsburgh’s manager told AAP they were coming to Sydney to discuss with us sometime this week.

as far as I can tell nothing’s really come from the club, but Brent Read is close to Richardson and would likely have contacted him to verify the links.

if you compare that to

Skelton = Aria
Luai = BME
Turuva = Mark Stewart

you begin to get an idea of what’s going on.
Yep when journos need a story, it's usually from managers (what's that phrase - sources with knowledge of the situation) - Tartak, Moses & O'Loughlin, particularly have very good contacts in the media which is why it's often they're clients with stories on them. In recent times, the Ayoubs haven't had as much.

I reckon if Richo is feeding his mate Ready anything, it's strategic & probably to serve a greater purpose than landing that specific player.

But one thing is positive, Richo is "shaking the tree" to see what falls out as he said he would lol

That's the way the Rorters do it...let clubs develop young players then sign them up. Save them wasting money on development.
I am 💯 certain Galvin stays with us regardless of the Roosters or anyone else wanting to sign him, providing we either make the top 8 or come very close to it in 2025.
Pole is more our immediate concern as he can sign elsewhere from November this year if we don’t re-sign him beforehand.
Sione Fainu is another concern as he is also one of the better younger emerging props currently on the free agent list, we cannot afford to lose him.
