Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Chooks vs Raiders.

Horsburgh - 39 tackles - 0 missed. That's what we need. He does look to be carrying a few kegs. A solid preseason & change of scenery, I think he had a big season next year where he lands. Hopefully us!

My biggest take out of the game was the Sam Walker injury. The Chooks have gone & bought Chad Townsend on a discount deal as their reserve half. I would not be surprised if Sullivan or Douiehi would be on the Chooks radar for 2025 now. Walker will be lucky to play a game next year.
I like Horsburgh, but I don’t know our club has ever prepared players well over the offseason. Certainly not in recent memory.

Funny footy facts;
- Arthur Laundy, pub baron and major Dogs sponsor, was actually a long time Tigers supporter, and only got involved with Canterbury coz he was a mate of Dean Pay. Ironically the day he agreed to sign on as sponsor, Pay was sacked by the Board.
He said he was sick of the Dogs coming last so was advised by the Board the best thing he could do was hire Phil Gould.
Initial meeting was held at Percy’s Hotel opposite North Sydney Oval. Whilst Gould was involved with the Warriors at that time, he accepted the job at a club he knew and loved.
Gould then approached Ciraldo at Penrith but, at that stage, Ciraldo was in heavy negotiation with the Wests Tigers but eventually was totally underwhelmed by the people and systems at WT and when he met with the Laundys and Gould he felt much more comfortable.
So Dogs got a keen major sponsor, Gould and Ciraldo. Timing is everything eh !
Of course we had Brydens, Pascoe and little else, now I wonder why he chose the Dogs !!!
Jaycar sponsor 4 the dogs was 1 of our x players, god this club has a stench about it that needs cleansing

If i were Richo I’d be courting Laundy to do the same to the Tigers as he has done for the Dogs….Laundy is loaded $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

A winger for 900k?
Wingers should be produced not bought.
To’o is good but if he wants to come here on a normal good winger price than fine otherwise go and extort money for some other sucker. Thanks.
Yes.

A Winger for 900K if they bring 900k to the table.

Why?
We can spend 900k and get Frizzel or RCG perhaps. Forwards who are first graders but kinda past their prime.
OR
We can get someone who is 100% top shelf.

To'o makes as many meters as a forward. Is a monster to tackle and just barges through the opponents line.

But if not To'o. There have definately been 900k wingers in the comp.
Israel F. Would score almost 2 tries per game for Brisbane and Melbourne at his peak.
Brett Morris isn't a 900k winger, but he could come close.
Greg Ingles Won origin games on the wing. He had this way of just going quiet so the opposition would forget about him then when he touched, he scored.

Koroibete came close to this level.

Look I would see To'o as a center. Someone who would barge through and have the winger follow close behind. I could even see him move to the second row or lock, but he would have to train there. He is a top shelf talent and I would rather see us waste our money on someone who will always take the field vs:
Sullivan 500k
Naden/Staines/Toa/whatever overpriced fringe grader joins our ranks.
etc.

Sounds good in principle Yoshi but don’t think it will happen. Certainly not in tandem and not alternatively with the Dogs just starting to hit their straps either.
I still think getting Meriton back on track to replace Brydens would certainly be beneficial ( and old Harry’s got quite a pile as well).
And I’d ask Harry to renovate both our grounds, with his contacts in the building industry I’m sure he would get the job done at the right price ( and quick as well).
2 Meriton Stadiums would fit the bill and sit ok with me !.

How come Laundy is able to spend unlimited amounts of cash on the squad but Harry isn't?

He was burnt too badly by the board meeting he attended...

You'd be amazed by the number of high profile (big money) Tigers supporters who have been burnt by the Tigers Head Office.

We still have 2-3 million to spend on maybe 4 spots. Each signing will be on 600-800k
And a big part of why we have that much to spend is because we’ve lost 2 major players from our forward pack. Unless they actually manage to offload some of our outside backs we’ve already got enough considering our forwards need boosting. Or we’ll just end up in the same place we always are expecting our halves to make miracles behind a forward pack that’s consistently getting rolled.
