Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

SMH: Jack Bird has agreed to a two-year deal to join the Wests Tigers as the club continues its recruitment spree for 2025.

Bird is yet to sign a contract but informed Tigers representatives on Friday he will take up a deal worth around $400,000 a year with the joint venture club from next season.

Bird, who won a premiership with Cronulla in 2016 and made five State of Origin appearances for NSW, is contracted to St George Illawarra next season but was given permission to explore his options. The Dragons will contribute a small portion of his salary in 2025.

Bird toured Wests Tigers facilities on Monday and has since agreed to join Jarome Luai, Sunia Turuva and Royce Hunt as new Tigers recruits under coach Benji Marshall next year.

The 29-year-old was hoping to secure a three-year deal but the Tigers were only willing to offer him two years. He is expected to put pen to paper in the next few days. The Tigers are also in negotiations with Raiders prop Corey Horsburgh and have signalled an interest in Broncos forward Kobe Hetherington. Hetherington has been given permission by Brisbane to explore options at rival clubs.

We have one currently contracted for next season....????!
I was wondering the same thing, where are all these second rowers we have signed ?
As far as o can see we currently have Samuela Fainu, Alex Seyfarth, Tony Sukkar and Brandon Tumeth and it appears likely that Tumeth will get moved on.
Samuela looks a great prospect on our left edge,
Seyfarth is starting to make solid claims for the spot on our right edge, but he’s far from a locked in certain starter. He’s versatile enough to play on an edge or in the middle which makes him ideal for our bench rotation.
Sukkar is a big body with good mobility for a big man, so he’s defenitely a prospect, but unproven at this stage.
The signing of Jack Bird should help cover our back row depth if required, but we definitely need at least one more signing who can be a more regular figure as our right edge back rower.
The fact that Bird seems to prefer playing as a centre also puts the pressure on our current squad centres such as Starford To’a and Adam Doueihi to perform at their best or play reserve grade. If they do play at their best and command an NRL position, than Bird can be moved to the back row or be used as an interchange player.
Great to see we are building much better depth.
