LIVE GAME Round 27 vs. Eels

Live Game Discussion
Guys, we all knew this was the ending. We go again next season.
That’s the genuine horror of it!

Our learning curve is lower than Benjis and which has already dipped well into negative territory.

He had a quarter of last season, the entire pre season and 26 rounds to prepare this side so as to make something of this final game against a disinterested lazy side and a terminally unemployable coach.

And we don’t just get well beaten, we get flogged senseless at home.

We might have put on a better show if he’d stayed away from the club for the last two weeks. Gone off on one of his overseas holidays. Wouldn’t be the first time.

We were dreadful, it’s too early to face the horror of next year. This will take months of therapy as it stands.

Signing up as a Wests Tigers member is the ultimate act of self abuse I can think of it.

The only joy in it is being able to call out Richo and membership.

Which is why I just might go round again!
in all seriousness keep plugging away at them about a reply, its shabby 4 any company to not reply within 30 days,be interesting c how long it takes

Was a real buzz around the ground early, good support from both sides and with Galvin with beautiful touches for the first two tries it looked like our early jitters were turning around. Then the rest of the game happened.

I think Richo was talking before the game about Penrith winning big in final round of 03 before going on to win gf the next year and drawing parallels between them and us. It's a classic example of winning the game before we played it and then producing a dud performance when we actually play that is so typical of leaders in our club. Somehow we win a game or two and we're planning for grand finals without focusing on the thing in front of us.

In a way, as this is who we are, it's better we show our colours rather than play in a way that allows the club to feel like what has been happening is good enough. It's clearly not. Who there is good enough to change it?

It was sad watching Api out there. Benji ran him into the ground this year. Everyone here saw he was being overused and it didn't help us win squat.

On the other hand I enjoyed seeing the young players given a go and they mostly held up well. Mason has plenty of errors in him but also a lot of talent.

It was a particularly disappointing season from our experienced forward pack. They were awful this year.

There's been no improvement to our ability to control the speed of the ruck and create it ourselves. It doesn't matter who we buy, this is step one.

A lot of talk about effort and not giving up from Benji. I hope next year that applies to things like chasing the kick and trying to tackle and wrapping the ball up.

As disappointing as our forwards were, you could argue our backs are worse. Not able to gain metres on early tackles, get themselves mixed up on attacking movements, poor defensive reads and often just outmuscled, there's not a lot that's promising in that bunch. But I think unlike our forwards, they're not a well credentialed bunch.

Thanks to you all on the fan forum for enduring it all. Hard not to feel sometimes like the tigers are some strange manifestation of our psyche and that their play is inextricably tied to some fundamental chasm in the centre of our collective social structure. That or it's just another footy game.
Great post

Don’t forget he was only playing half a game each week at the Panthers and often starting off the bench.
He’s a champion player, but he’s very small in the middle defending against giants week on week out for 80 minutes and when fatigued he becomes a defensive liability.
Rubbish - it was more to do with bringing his replacement through that replacing him…

The game is much aside when you spend the majority of the time going forward….

Oh well, this season has shown that the salary cap isn't working. Tigers were always going to get the spoon and the other end of the comp is just a battle to see who Melbourne beats in the GF. The best players leave weak clubs because they want to win a comp with Storm, Panthers and Roosters.

No offence...but could be more effective than winning and putting a false sheen (no pun intended) over the season.
Surely that will drive them to train harder...
Surely!!!
So the first 2 spoons didn’t? The amount of silver lining trying to be found is something else.

And talk about under 12’s talk. Training harder is only half the battle. You actually have to be good enough. And we aren’t

That was hard to watch. Can’t stand many Eels players so that made it even harder.
We deserve the spoon as we were certainly the poorest team in the comp.

A one line summary of each of our guys tonight:
Mason can’t tackle and is not ready to play fullback in NRL. Tupou still can’t catch. Staines is a poor defender and just doesn’t cut it. Faataape maybe just, as a back up centre. Galvin has some great moments and some ordinary ones. Latu needs more development.
Api needs a holiday and less minutes next season. Uto is a pea heart. Klemmer and Twal are ineffective. Pole needs to increase his workrate. Seyfarth has improved but still needs to stop the errors. Sam F tries hard but is prone to lapses in D. Sukkar had few minutes but looked ok.
One line that fits them all:
Learn to tackle and FFS put the opponent on the ground!!
DEFENCE is what's needed, fix the defence and we win games.. coaches at this club need to just concentrate on defence for the whole of the off season.
This type of situation is how we lose our good players, unfortunately they all want to win the competition, now -so they go to a club that will do that.
Congratulations to all the fans who turned up to this final match
