Stefano Utoikamanu #241

I can't bring myself to dislike him but he hasn't been close to good enough this year. Played every game for us so needed to be better. A lot of his comments suggest he doesn't really take any personal responsibility for his form. Unfortunately he is a follower when what we needed was a leader.

He came to us as the big hope to make our pack competitive but will slink away having achieved nothing despite his large pay packet. As much as wanted to see him succeed i am delighted he is leaving as he is not even close to being the player that we needed but has been getting the money of an elite forward.
A massive failure and he is responsible for most of that

I think Stefano's attitude is alot to do with not enough senior players in the squad to show him the way and pull him inline
He isn't 5 ...He had Klemmer, ICE, Heinington, Farah...I'm sure they all tried to show him the way and pull him in line...For me Stefano has been absolute bog average.....his defensive reads are sub stanndard and if he dishes up what he did last night, Bellamy will tear shreds off him....Stefano is NOT what we need....is NOT a leader

Agree. It's all on Softy

Carries this attitude to Melbourne he'll be selling his arse in St. Kilda by April.

Absolute garbage showing by a bloke who was purportedly playing for his future. Enjoy cloud city you dumbarse.

If they did pull him in line, and still weren't happy, why did we still give him a massively contract?

The bloke will end up just being another meh footnote for the history books.

2035 at the pub -

"remember that Stef guy about 10 years ago"

"no"
Even though he's going to be coached by Bellamy, I am pretty much of the same view.

I don't bear any grudge against him. He didn't break his contract which is - sadly - by today's standard almost admirable.

He hasn't been good for a while, and I'm glad the tigers have that money to spend elsewhere, but I'm really not upset with him.

I remember quitting a job a few years ago that I had to give a month's notice for. It was brutal, and tbh if you're leaving any job it's understandable it's difficult to truly have your heart in it.

Imagine a young guy giving several months' notice and losing every week? Maybe he's no Phar Lap, but it'd be pretty tough putting in 100% for that long.

And I don't think the whole "... But the money he's on...", "he's a professional" argument makes any sense. You can be a billionaire and be depressed.

I think an earlier reference to Tarzan and Jane is somewhat apt for big Stef; not that he is a man monster/marshmallow, but more of a very big kid.

It's almost as though he has all the physical attributes, was always bigger than all the other kids and talented to boot...

But he strikes me as a young guy who simply doesn't have that competitive fire in him and is to an extent a square peg in a round hole.

I think he's more Lennie Small ("Tell me 'bout the rabbits George") than Jane, and every man and his dog has told him Bellamy is going to bring out his inner gnome.*

* That was an autocorrect: supposed to be "inner animal", but came out as gnome somehow. Decided to keep it in.

I think the only hope he'd ever have of becoming a great player would be under Bellamy or Bennett.

Time will tell, but certainly not beyond the realm of possibility he fades away in a few years as @Winston Churchill said.

Sounds like bitterness.

Were his teammates excelling at anything? They’re all culpable.
He could have busted his arse on Friday to show the club and it’s supporters that he appreciates all that’s been done for him over the years.
One big effort where he left it all on the field and he could hold his head up and say “sorry guys, I tried my best to help miss this spoon”….he did not do that.

Champions shine through adversity. Lift your team and take them with you. The guy could have been a real leader and who knows where he may have finished in a decade if the tigers had become successful. Instead, we got arm grabing 50mtrs a game Stef. He will slot right into the Melbourne system as he will work just as hard doing sweet FA and yet will appear a better player as others are doing the heavy lifting. The bloke threw away an endearing legacy to chase an easy job and pay cheque elsewhere. The divas of today.

there’s a difference between trying and achieving. Our squad is very young (and mostly tried hard) and steff could have stepped up to be the leader he always verbalized he wanted to be. He did the opposite.
It’s a poor footy side. Has been for years. A leader of shit, will only produce more shit.
