Bennett does what he wants. He is all over the place. He doesn’t go to Fiji because he doesn’t have young kids. What difference? The fact that we suck and the media worked out Benji had 6 nights instead of 4 in a place suited to young kids? Don’t get it. Whether he was in Brisbane or Hamilton Island, doesn’t matter. Media beat up. And we love it here.

Salaries in England are pretty low. I remember clubs baulking at Sullivan's salary saying they simply couldn't fit 325k pounds into their cap for 1 player.

Bateman is on 670k or something. I thought he'd spat the dummy and was going to leave despite the cash, but it's a lot of money to forego at the back end of your career.

He's not going great over there either. I think he'll be a passenger for the next 2 years sadly.

I’d have made a play for Luai before MM, for many reasons.

Ex Rooster kid at work, rates Hunt and Skelton pretty highly. Thinks we need Kobe as well.

He also rates Hook as a coach from the ex league player grapevine. He may not have gelled at SGI.

Maybe Hook as an assistant for us?

Hook has form being totally disliked by players and the administrators wherever he goes and has been punted as a result (although he was a little.unlucky at Penrith).

Whoever our coach is going to be, they need to be there long term if Benji is going to be given the boot.

Looking at all the coaches in the NRL, the only ones that might match our needs are Andrew Webster or Todd Payten. Possibly with a big asterisk Demetriou.

The rest are no chance of coming here.

Failing that, you have the next breed of coaches coming through like Dean Young.

I'd prefer to watch how the first half of the season goes before discussing replacements though.

I don't see much talent in Arthur, Griffin, Barrett, McGregor to fill me with confidence that they can do the job. We are a special case.

Ive only once had a decade of success like that.
Ive been a supporter since 1984 with Balmain and now Wests Tigers.
So between 84 and 93 they made the finals 6 times (85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90).
That run of good years hooked me and has not even hinted at happening since....bastards

Not sure how you would claim a 'common' understanding for modern era and would be interested in seeing what others think.For mine there is no way 50 years ago could be considered modern. 30 years ago or just short of, maybe, given that was approximately the dawn of professionalism and the start of 'NRL' post superleague. But I still wouldn't consider that 'modern' particularly how much the game has changed in 25-30 years.
Post 'wrestle' era of about 20 years ago I would start considering a 'modern era'. Even then we have moved past that into the 6 again era the last few years.
Not an attack on your opinion in any way just curios what others would consider 'the modern era'.

All of that makes complete sense.
I guess it’s who you ask. Players like Coote, Fulton, Beetson were always considered greats of modern era, as opposed to your Churchills or Dave Browns.
Then you look at guys like Raudinikis, Eadie, Ray Price, who were around 40+ years ago - and would be considered “modern” greats by most.

Then Clyde, Langer, Lewis era, which is circa 30+ years ago (this is making me feel old!).

Best part of the whole article was Richo spraying the players for carrying on like numpties on the sideline. Can't see Richo letting Bateman miss any of the preseason, if Bateman wants the money he I'd going to actually have to earn it now.
