Why would we get anything in return?

Clubs don’t get anything in return for top 30 players as if a club would get anything for a kid not even old enough to play NRL yet.
 
Untill Richo comes out and explains how he let large go , we will be just guessing, that’s if he even tell us supporters. Getting sick of been told crap like we are a developing club and that will be are go , then this happens , if the kid was as good as they say , pay him half’s money and stick him in the centres but just letting him walk is a REALLY bad look

What is it with young players these days?

What sort of mentality is it where you have zero interest in actually earning a position in the top grade?

I swear, agents are killing the full potential of young players with crap like this.

Forever it has been that a spot is earned and as a young player coming through its your dream to get that spot and keep it. If you've reached the stage where you get a chance and are playing better than the guy you replaced, then you have not only earned the spot but you are then a far better player than you would be if you had no one to overcome.

Shit like this clause (if it's actually true) is only in the interest of the agent and robs young players of reaching their full potential.

Of course it's not black or white and a lot is on the player, but generally the higher the quality of the competition the better you have to be.

TLDR: Earn a spot over a great player - become a great player
Get given a spot over a reserve grader - become better than a reserve grader

Did the members get an annoucement yet about Large ? Richo says don’t believe what you read in the media…until it is announced by the club …right ?

This is a horrible story if true and displays the current road the NRL could go down if stuff like this continues.
Yes Onitoni is an amazing talent but he hasn't even played SG ball yet and to demand a clause which inherently states that he will play first grade is greedy and downright disgusting.
Now I am not putting any of this on Onitoni It was probably all his manager. But it just shows the power managers are going to play in the future.
If young talent begins to get this greedy it will lead to some shocking deals with clauses and third party deals riddled all over them.
I was in shock when I saw this and I still can not believe it ...

Clubs that develop the game through juniors end
up getting stung, it's become a bit futile. Going to
get way worse with NRL expansion. Vlandy's and
RLPA are soon going to be at logger heads again
trying to figure out player movements & contracts

There needs to be bigger salary cap deductions for juniors you develop and if they leave the club should get some sort of compensation in return. It will help stop teams like Roosters cheery picking top line talent and must develop some themselves.

I'm not sure how much influence the NRL has over player managers and junior players but the self interest of managers needs to be hauled in or there will be no even spread of talent. They will continue to hold clubs to ransom while keeping the strong clubs stocked. Something has to give.

I just meant maybe, especially with the expansion
they'll be forced to revisit signing windows and also
eligibility more so @hsvjones worded it perfectly

Agree 100%.

No pun intended (okay, intended! 🤣), but the "knock on effect" this type of thing will have will lead to a homogenised league of players bereft of any character and far lower talent level.
 
Richo needs to seriously explain what went down with Large leaving, none of it makes sense. Was he even signed 5 years? If so how is he gone and how are they talking about a Galvin clause. Evening then still not sure what the massive issue is with the clause. He stays for another 2 years Galvin leaves and either he or Latu get the 6 jersey. Galvin stays we have had the chance to show him a pathway at either centre or fullback. I assume the fact there is talk about the clause meant he was happy to stay. The silence from the club is deafening.

I doubt we'd hear anything from him about it, he's an untested kid albeit with promise. These things happen at all clubs and i don't think many if any make comment about juniors yet to make grade. So many don't kick on so its kind of pointless.
The only way i reckon we'll hear anything is if there's a BTR podcast with Richo about other things and it gets a mention there.
