OFFICIAL Brett Hodgson appointed Assistant Coach

Im quite disappointed with this appointment. I was kind of keen on a big name but to fall short like this is rough.
His coaching record isn't a strong one either:

Head coach of the Magpies (2018) : Finished 5th
Hull FC (2020 - 2021): Finished 8th and then 9th (no that is not in the finals)
Wallabies defensive coach (2022)

I will give him a chance though due to him being a defensive specialist coach. The last time the tigers could defend was under Madge but they couldn't score points.
I'm happy to have Hodgo back but I feel this whole reunion BS is a bit annoying. Might be nice for Benji but not for the long suffering fans.

I just felt this signing fell flat with me. Still willing to give him a chance!

Hard crowd here...

I will give him a chance to prove himself before I make a call.

I think people need to remember that you cannot just go out and pick a person to be the assistant coach you must choose between the ones that actually apply. TBH the top line ones are already taken and in a good system so very hard to pull them out.

This year was always going to be tough and a development year and that shows in how many players we used and we found a few gems (Samual F & Galvin etc..) So taking all this into account and all the injuries etc we had more wins this year then the last 2 years with a Rookie coach.

Next year is the time to start throwing arrows if we don't progress.

This is just like the Bird and Hunt signing - Meh not a fan of them.

Love hodgo as a player but as an assistant it just smells like another mate at the club.

For a team at rock bottom we have gone another inexperienced coaching route.

Which ‘experienced’ coach do you think put their hand up and got rejected then?

Seems to me that they chose a bit of a soft option as Hodgo probably wouldn’t be a threat to Benji for the top job.
Loved Hodgo as a player but I think we needed an experienced, non affiliated outside voice.
Interesting that the announcement was at pains to highlight the recruitment process-would have loved to have seen the other 6 candidates.

Deserves a go. Champion player and passionate about the club. When hiring if you have a relationship and know you can work together well - it’s an easy hiring decision against uncertainty.

Has been around the blocks, lots of experience with systems and styles
