Got a question for you again
Was out at Panthers chatting to some mates and downing a few and we started talking about Ivan and how he had the Tigers playing they talk very highly of Ivan's coaching at the Tigers
They started saying that the Tigers must either be so toxic the culture or the coaching so bad that a good player arrives and turns to crap and a crap player leaves and there game goes up a few levels
The last few years do you think the coaching has been that bad ?
The coaching doesn't understand the players they have recruited?
Or the place is just a shit show?
The place has been a shit show for a long time. I'd argue we underachieved with Sheens and because it was tolerated it set some poor standards in place, as the people allowing it to happen on the board didn't have high standards being set for themselves. That all trickles down - think about the comments about our training facilities from Anasta. That should never have happened.
The board's ineptitude was demonstrated on-field in results and off-field in the rumour mill of the past 12 years. Leaks were occurring long before Lee.
I think there were some long-standing cultural issues with Farah and Marshall. Marshall had a sook when Mick Potter called him out and had been enabled forever, and Farah has not necessarily been known as an amazing team-mate, despite being a great player. You had Tim Simona and Nofoaluma not driving any standard you'd want. You had old mate CEO selling off Gibbs and Ryan for Blair, leveraging our cap against making the 8 in 2012 and then when we didn't, we went over the cap.
We had no money to afford a top-line coach and got Potter. Not bad, not good but a result of poor financial management in the end.
Taylor was not liked. Pascoe walked into a mess and needed more support.
The development pathways were a mess under Pascoe and put a lot of juniors and junior coaches off.
We all know about Cleary.
Pascoe LIED about the membership numbers and didnt really seem to have a plan to increase them. That is parts inexcusable, embarrassing, shameful and as big a sign of poor leadership that I can think of.
Lee cannot have been good for the health of the organisation.
Realistically, I look at this season that just finished as the first season of an expansion club. It is the first season I can remember where we had attempts from top to bottom at the level of professionalism required in the NRL.
