Luai would have to be close to the best player WTs signed and I have no doubt Marshall played a huge role to get him here.

Mate you are the one rewriting history. If you want to criticise Madges actual results that is more than fair enough. His time here was an utter failure . However;
The first reports of Papali'i wanting to back out were in July. Madge was fired in June. I can't find anywhere what Maumalo or Leilua were reportedly signed for but the stories at the time was Maumalo was cheap because of a troublesome knee and Leilua was cheap because he was overweight with discipline issues. Neither seemed like good gambles but both were considered low cost with the, unlikely but potential, high reward.
Musgrove was certainly overpaid. But again there wasn't cap space for an elite prop.

Luai at the time of his signing had not shown anywhere near enough to justify 1.2mil+ a year for 5 years. He has lifted (or shown more of)his game that it is now not unreasonable. But at the time it was a ridiculously inflated offer that dwarfed all other offers. Though, I understand it had to be to get him to come here.

I'm not sure you watched Luai's games without Cleary this year 😛

He's actually got a much better win record without Cleary than Cleary has without him. Will be interesting to see how he goes as I think Luai is a big loss for them, bigger than Crichton as he's a playmaker.

thats horseshit . It came out in July , but It was known in nrl for months before that . Leilua only had his contract subsidised for year one , and it was reported as high as 650k.Maumalo was also on fairly good coin . He didn’t come cheap at all. Hence why he was easy to offload to gc.

Mate re-read my comment I'm hardly a Maguire fan boy calling his time here an utter failure. I didnt comment on the players being 'off-him'. I didn't justify Musgroves contract. I clearly stated he was over paid though I'd say the duration was probably worse than the actual salary.
You stated it Maumalo was easy to offload because he wasn't cheap. How does that work? The cheaper the player the easier to move on. We are struggling now to offload the likes of Sullivan specifically because he did not come cheap.

Edit. According to our own Leilua thread he was on 1.4m (from us) over 3 years = 466k a year. Overs for what he produced for us but unders for his standing in the game at the time. Also Couldn't see any comments in the thread about him being a dud buy at the time.
