Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I'd be going 4 years. $600k, $600, $650, $650. 2.5 mill has a nice ring to it.

Clause in there about Taylan. Nothing stupid but something like we will offer him a top 30 deal. No figure attached though.
I'd be very, very reluctant to offer a deal that long considering he's been around for a while and has had just the one breakout season.

I wouldn't mind paying a little more in order to have the freedom of a shorter contract, say 650-750 for a 2 + 1 CO.

@Vicious the Roosters quite obviously think Smith and May are the main instigators in the off field party boy approach that they seemingly want to get away from.
It was never a problem when the likes of Fittler etc played for them, but for some reason it is now, shows what a low contradictory club they are.
As long as a players off field antics are not effecting their level of fitness or on field performance, than what is the problem ?
Its a problem when its illegal...see GnRs post

Am I missing something?

May’s roosters deal was 475k a year for the next 2 season so 650k a year is already nearly 50% upgrade on what he’s currently getting.

I don’t know where people think he’ll be getting offers of around 800-900k. I don’t think he’s that type of player just yet.

We’re also not competing with Roosters, Melbourne, Brisbane, Bunnies or Penrith. We don’t need to outbid ourselves with teams like the Dragons.

If I was a player I’d see way more upside to sign with us over the Dragons. Bulldogs another story but I doubt they’ll want to pay anywhere near that region as well.

Do you think he is an upgrade on Stef? Is Stef an 80 minute player? Was Stef offered or wanting $900+. Who brings more to the tables? Is not rocket science. But a simple comparison. Please don’t forget when it comes to $ players and their managers are not stupid.

I think we all want the club to sign May. And there is no doubt he upgrades the pack.

I think it's an important lesson learned though- to not overpay simply because you have a need. 2-3 year deal at most, considering that he's got a history of sorts, plus he's only really had 1 'good' NRL season. You don't commit long term- like Russell Packer.

And that $600-$650k range sounds ideal. Again- Utoikamanu had a better resume. If May wants that $800-$900k range- there isn't 3 teams bidding for him anymore. Be prepared to miss out on him, it puts the club in a stronger bargaining position.

There is still a good pipeline of young players coming through- our "Bolter" thread has named 731 players to look out for. It's good to upgrade for the immediate future- don't invest the long term future into questionable players.

As much as I want May, I'd be happy with Toby Rudolph on a 2-year deal at that $500-$650k range as well. Strengthening the overall squad with good contracts for the club is extremely important right now.

And re-signing the young guys the club wants to keep, even more important.

@teddy23 ( this reply issue is getting painful).
I reckon you’re on money and seeing we really need a decent prop let’s go $650.
I was gunna say we will need to pay 100-150 more than he is currently on just bcoz of who and where we are at. My concern is length of contract due to his commitment level to footy, and his perceived demeanour.
I’d want 2/3 years max w/ CO on any extra years + bonus $ for making rep sides, etc. (not a stupid get out clause if he doesn’t), that way we can still have some control.
I don’t think paying him big $, with a long contract, and making him a “marquee” type signing/player will be doing him any favours either, he seems to casual to want that part of footy. Pay him good dollars to be a good footy player and let others around him be the leader and drivers of the team, I think that would be better for him and probably get the most out of him.

Flanno who goes hard for everyone and mostly misses out, is now saying he is not going to make a call on May till after Xmas….. sounds like Flanno has been told by May he is not interested in the Red V…Flanno saving face… haha

Curious on other posters opinion on how much we should be offering May?

I have no info on numbers being discussed but personally I’m not offering anything more than the 600-650k region.
Rumours Roosters had him on 475K. Half a million bucks for a guy who is reluctant to commit to the sport. Think about that. Going much higher could prove to be a big mistake, hopefully it’s a 2 year deal.

Just because we paid 750K plus for disappointing players before, doesn’t mean that’s our market. I also think Richo has a handle on these things given all his experience, and we won’t do anything silly.
