Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

When Matamua was coming through the grades and making a name for himself, I wouldn’t say he was fast for a forward, but he was agile enough to be a running threat and this along with his ball playing ability is what made him a player with so much potential.
I recall he was told he was small for a forward and had to put on size, I think that’s been his detriment as putting on size has taken away his speed and agility and meant he has become no attacking threat when running the ball.
Therefore it’s great to hear he’s looking very fit as that’s the best chance of him regaining his running threat and becoming the player he’s always promised to be.

Im not a fan of Bateman not at all, but come on man Porter. He is what you call a solid KOE forward at best. If Benji can sort this shit out by the time we pay money for Bateman as painful as it is to admit it would be best for the club that we keep hin, If hes willing to put in and i think with Luai driving the standards i expect everyone to be accountable. Lets not compare Porter to Bateman lets be real. I think most would agree Bateman at his best is a much better footballer than Porter. Its Benjis job to get the best out of him. Plus i dont want to pay money for a player to play for manly.
When he's not giving away stupid penalties or trying to fight everyone in an opposition jersey.🤔

No need to be a prick, mate. I agree with tougher measures for Bateman, but if anyone can’t see how ridiculous it is to ask someone to travel back from England to Australia for just ONE BLOODY DAY then I give up.
Apparently Bateman wants to play in the NRL so he can be here with his Aussie wife who wants to stay here. Yet the season is over and he's shown zero desire to come back and spend time with his wife. Why is he even seen there? His family is here. He's just a runt enjoying a holiday from his missus for as long as he can drag it on for. What are his values?

Knocking off his ex in England?? 🤔

Seems like they love him at the club.
He's got better each year and hopefully continues to get better.

Can make some mistakes but he's a fantastic player who can do a job for us.
His attitude and effort he puts in makes up for the relatively few mistakes he can make occasionally. He doesn't take a backwards step.

Did anything end up happening with Simione Laiafi? People on here were saying he had signed in a swap deal for Large
Don't think so, he started preseason with Manly at least, but something could still be in the works...

But you use your leverage before you release it. Giving up a good timey player and then asking a few months later of we can do a swap is laughable

Nah, watched him since Newcastle.
Can play, whether he wants to is the
question, same goes for Matamua
If you've watched him since Newcastle you'd know that he really only plays 2-3 good games a season where he looks a real danger, only to then drop back to bring a lazy NSW cup player

Well this is really getting exciting now, I am starting to believe we have enough troops to have some significant improvement in 2025.
I know there was talk about him a while ago but I think a Nelson from Melbourne would be enough to finish off our pack.
I still believe we need maybe another centre but I will say ( and its probably a unpopular opinion) we have one that's ready to go and has the skill set but needs to be man managed .... Naden.... at his best he is more than enough and maybe our coaching staff could get the best out of him
This is a perfect time to get a Major sponsor.
We seem to be in great shape and on the up for a Sponsor to join.
Richo said we are in the best shape ever for sponsors so I'm sure Richo will deliver us one as well.

This guy is heading for a statue the way his going.
Maybe I'm a bitter sort of person but I have dreamt that Richo would go and get major sponsorship from a "bigger" law firm in Sydney than Brydens...
Imagine the press that would get for a new sponsor.

Time will tell. Staines was a grand final winner in the exact same spot as Turuva. He’s awful in the centres though.

Totally agreed.
But none of Naden, Staines or Toa really have earned a starting spot in the 17.

I am kinda glad though who we have around. Our backline had way too many juniors.
Were seeing some real upgrades
Olam (repaired/fit)
Bird
Turuva
...

At least enough people that if someone doesn't perform they can get dropped.

Nelson AS from Melbourne would be awesome, except that we need a Second rower not a prop.

We really need someone more like Samuela,

I rate Toa - he’s been unlucky in that he’s never had great halves, defending with bad wingers and been seriously unlucky with injury. Word is that he’s pretty much always had something niggling.

He’s my pick for next season to really come good on promise - at his best he’s better than Deouhi, Olam, Faatape etc Just needs to get come consistent football outside some decent players.
