Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I’m not sure I like our middle defence with Pole and Hunt both off the bench and being on the field together
That is why coaching is important and getting that rotation right. Ideally you want May (good defender) paired with Pole and Hunt coming on and paired with Twal/Klemmer (both good defenders) and ensuring that there is no overlap with Pole and Hunt ie. ensuring Pole is on with either May and Klemmer/Twal and the same with Hunt.

if I was Benji , when John comes in , in the new year I’d say this . “Look we couldn’t get a deal done , you couldn’t get a deal done , so we rip in for this year . Put our shit aside for the good of the club , and iif you rip in , you will change the narrative around you , and there will be a 2 year deal come November from someone for you .
1 season we rip in . And if someone comes along earlier , then we won’t stand in your way either . But you give me your all until then, and I’m sure the rest will take care of itself “ .
And just be 💯 with him .
Because it’s in everyone’s interest now , that John rips in , changes the narrative that’s built up around him , and when a few injuries hit someone / bad form , the teams will come looking for him. But not if he’s kicking rocks , and carrying on .
It’s big boy pants time . For everyone

Would like this to happen to happen too, seems the
most sensible thing for both parties. If he doesn't
come back we're missing an international 2nd rower
and have to fill that spot. Everyone has their pitch
forks out lmao. I genuinely hope he comes back
ready to fire for 1 year at least, he should be conscious
of the fact that he can change everyone's perceptions

I agree, i personally would prefer Bird in the 14 role and Seyfarth off the bench at best.

An edge backrower to replace Bateman would be ideal and for Matamua or Kit to make a massive leap this offseason. That would be the most ideal situation.
Back rowers hold your edge D together and one of ours while talented, is very young & showed he’s still got defensive lapses in him. Who knows who plays on the other side. Seyfarth?

If we’re flimsy on the edges I can guarantee you what opposition teams will do to us, Luai will be making forty plus tackles.

The 13 position was Latu’s to take.

Latu rocking up to preseason unfit the season he’s being pushed to play in the middle has unfortunately derailed that and a potential spot at 13 has been opened up for Bird or even potentially Seyfarth for the short term.

The club were looking for a veteran utility style player to come in hence Bird’s arrival. A position has now opened ip in the middle and due to his versatility he now has the ability to try make it his.
If that is the case, Latu still has 2+ full months of pre-season to get himself in the shape to play #13 & impress Benji with his attitude to learn a lesson.

Jeez if Seyfarth is in the frame as well, it leaves us pretty light in the backrow. Who do you see as our leading contender to replace Bateman?

haha . You just proved his point in 1 post ! Nice !
We need width . That’s why bird is at 13 . Anybody who says his carry’s are weak , Joe O had weak carries as well and he’s a front rower .
The dragons are playing cook at 13 this year . The nrl is moving away from the 3rd prop . And towards a hybrid style footy player . Connor Watson was the 13 at the roosters before smith got injured . That’s where the sport is moving towards . Guys who tackle and are dynamic . Not wrecking balls like Jason Taumalolo
Yep you need way more speed through the middle, I think 13 is the best option for bird at this point, do I think he'll play 20+ games there? Of course not, but until Bateman situation is resolved play bird at 13 and John at 12, if John goes then Bird to 12 and Sione Fainu to 13. Or maybe someone falls from the tree, but you know what you'll get from bird at 13. He plays above his weight, sticks a good amount of his tackles and can ball play, sounds like a pretty good lock to me, we know it's unlikely he'll stay fit, but you can't have everything, especially not at his price

I’d say that’s why sione is training there .

For a kid who’s grown up playing a creative position, presumably on natural ability given his now recognised attitude to training and soft tissue injury history, you’d have to think a move to the middle in the NRL might be a bridge too far at age 20. Happy if he proves me wrong.

Surely with the lack of interest , not just in the nrl but there arnt exactly a bunch of SL clubs banging down his door either , that he’s having a come to Jesus moment , and punch to the face of reality . Whether it’s true or not, he now has a stigma of being a nightmare . If he hates it here , he should come back and rip in because that’s his quickest way of leaving here . If he does the opposite it’s going to be a long 2 years , that will probably either end up with him in NSW cup or , catastrophically for his career , training by himself .
I don’t think anybody wants that .

Being unbiased here…. but that’s not a top 8 forward pack and could be arguably the worst pack in the comp at current stage.

Still need to bring in some reinforcements.
I think it simply comes down to how it's configured.

we've got some really good pieces, it's just putting the puzzle together in the right manner.

John won't even if that was put to him. He's a prick

No pitchfork here…we are a stronger outfit with him here and playing well.
Coach needs to get on with it.

I still think Bateman lands at the Dragons or Bunnies.

Dragons apparently shown interest, they need a point for difference as Flanno Jnr & Illias both very plain structured players. Bateman at 13 there suits.

Flanno Snr is known for landing a deal, I think Richo is playing hard ball given the press conference today. John your on $650K stay with us & you'll play NSW Cup all year. Or go elsewhere & play NRL.

Maybe we have changed our $ amount we are happy to pitch in with & given him a rev up about fitness etc... Maybe look at him breaching his contract.

Alternatively the Rabbits got a spot & it's either Bateman or Lodge to fill it. Bateman offers more & the injury to Cam Murray, Bateman is more like him than Lodge.

It just amazes me someone can be that unprofesional and still rep their country

I guess the game really has changed and man-management can be more important than the game and its basics itself

That’s a very one sided view of the situation.
It seems the narrative being fed by the club has become gospel.
It’s clear Bateman dropped his bundle and became overwhelmed with the leadership of the worst team in the comp . It all became too much for him .
But I think it’s also pretty obvious , that Benji misjudged John , and probably tried on the tough love style with him / make a show out of it , to get a reaction . And he did get one , the guy got on a plane to England .
Alll that can be said is , Benji is the coach and I pray that he learnt from this situation.
Because no matter how you swing it , the way Johnny boy is carrying on , it’s pretty obvious Benji screwed the pooch on this one . Even if if John is 💯 in the wrong and is a giant dickhead . It doesn’t achieve anything to have your best second rower playing in England .

Yeo, Loiero, the two best teams aren't moving towards hybrids.

You gotta pay him man ! Theres no way around it . You just gotta find commonality, to get a performance from the guy . Even if that commonality is each of you thinks the other is a massive waste of oxygen .
We need our second rower to put in a performance each week , he needs to get out of this club asap . He’s not getting what he wants until the club gets what it wants .
I think that’s obvious at this point .

This is an important often overlooked point in team
sports, managing personalities etc. If the individual
is doing well the team tends to go well too as a
collective. Benji is more than qualified for that role it's
just some other things he needs to work on which
he's been addressing it seems. Having Hodgo there
and not Farah (I love him but he was more moral
support 4 Benji than coach if anything haha) will
help too, he's been in a lot of professional settings
now & is quite technical, bomber will be better too
