Yep you need way more speed through the middle, I think 13 is the best option for bird at this point, do I think he'll play 20+ games there? Of course not, but until Bateman situation is resolved play bird at 13 and John at 12, if John goes then Bird to 12 and Sione Fainu to 13. Or maybe someone falls from the tree, but you know what you'll get from bird at 13. He plays above his weight, sticks a good amount of his tackles and can ball play, sounds like a pretty good lock to me, we know it's unlikely he'll stay fit, but you can't have everything, especially not at his price

For a kid who’s grown up playing a creative position, presumably on natural ability given his now recognised attitude to training and soft tissue injury history, you’d have to think a move to the middle in the NRL might be a bridge too far at age 20. Happy if he proves me wrong.
Surely with the lack of interest , not just in the nrl but there arnt exactly a bunch of SL clubs banging down his door either , that he’s having a come to Jesus moment , and punch to the face of reality . Whether it’s true or not, he now has a stigma of being a nightmare . If he hates it here , he should come back and rip in because that’s his quickest way of leaving here . If he does the opposite it’s going to be a long 2 years , that will probably either end up with him in NSW cup or , catastrophically for his career , training by himself .
