Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I know you’re probably half joking, but he is exactly the type that would benefit. Imagine if he was suddenly a yard quicker off the mark next year. Same with big Roycey. For some reason I reckon May might already be quick for a forward.
As long as the forwards don't lose their effectiveness at the advantage line ....have no reason why they can't see Roger ....might get a group rate
More importantly we need to improve some of our forwards lateral movement and their ability to hold their line speed for much longer periods .....something that is probably Penriths greatest strength

Remember though, it's entirely subjective. This is your description, but others' definitions may and will differ.

The bottom line, and the point I'm making, is that his his messaging about family doesn't bother me, in fact, I strongly support it, but also that it shouldnt be part of the discussion when he is judged as a coach.

Only outcome matters.

Too many people have, prematurely in my opinion, tried to draw connections between his perceived 'lack of investment' due to public endorsement of family as a priority, and our poor results in his first year.

Benji has many shortcomings as a head coach. Just as he has strengths. Hopefully, for our sake, he can and has, reflected on those shortcomings and can continue to improve in the role heading into his second official year...

..but his dedication to his family is not on the assessment list.
It's not really my personal description.

The family first mantra is out there, yet I'm citing there are players coming in early. In some cases 3 weeks early. There's plenty of time for family on top of doing extras as can be seen right now. The whole thing has been blown out of proportion (which is what I think you are saying) and frankly it's better if he stops saying it to avoid the scrutiny in a world where the media will twist your words into the most negative context.

It just sounds like people are taking this family first message to be in all cases at all times. Clearly it isn't or the coach wouldn't be there and he'd have told them to go home.

This is a top 10 team easily. I think we are short on depth, which is where it will all come unstuck, however no one will be blaming the roster if Benji can't get this team up the ladder.

Speed helps that too.

Intercept run aways can be deceptive because one guy has to turn. I think Weekes would burn him easily in a foot race.

That intercept is, So Overstated here
Weekes caught him, With plenty of time (Despite having to turn and chase)
- Just an ineffective attempted tackle.

Doueihi's pace has been passable twice maybe, He's OK when he gets wound up (For a forward)
The time it takes him to get moving is pensioner like.
Shame he's set on being a back, Between him and Hastings - They'd have to be the slowest in the comp.

Did Weekes catch him, thought he gave up. Not saying douhi is faster.

Yes, it is.

I hope he keeps saying it. If for no other reason than to piss everyone off once we do start climbing up the ladder.

It was so noticeable in the PM 13s game ....Galvin doesn't have the pace to get on the outside of defenders ......so they can sit on his passing game .....he will never be an elite half without more speed off the mark
Possibly correct, but he'll also never be big enough or robust enough to play in the pack. That's why I think Latu has more upside.

Even then Barrett and Burton had enough pace to get on the outside of defenders

Galvin should be down with Bird at sprint training with Fabri
I would think he would be running at the same speed in the 70th minute of a game as he does in the first 10 minutes,
By all reports his endurance training times are top notch.
Not all players have that ability,
And I for one hope the team improves enough in 25 that he sees a future and signs an extension 🤞

Apparently Galvin has grown another 3cm since the end of the season already... and only put on 1kg. Once he starts packing it on he'd be a sensational lock.

I 💯 agree with you

I love Benji too don’t get me wrong

I think out of all the coaches he cares more about his players having successful family lives after footy than any other coach

But that’s the problem

He’s not employed to make sure they have happy family lives after footy (I mean I’m human don’t get me wrong - it’s the most important thing in life)

But Benji job is to win football games

I just think he’s confusing the message and if I the owner of a football club I would choose the coach who says football and winning is everything and we die for the jersey above anything else in life … than the guy who says football doesn’t mean that much in the grand scheme of life bc family is everything

He’s employed to win football comps

And yes I agree - if you listen to Richo podcast with james graham before he became tigers CEO he said that most managers and people associated with football teams don’t achieve success bc winning is really really hard and takes lots of sacrifices.

I think richo is letting benji talk his talk bc I don’t think he can control benji on that

But I do think that richo knows what it takes to win - and he’s hoping that benji will succeed but he’d also be thinking the same thing as us - benji is a super nice guy… but he may not be a killer

Just like benjis career - he wasn’t a killer - he played for love and enjoyment - and that’s what he teaches his players - but benji also didn’t give us sustained continued success … for most of his career he was 50/50 rocks or diamonds …

Again I love benji and he gave me the best ten years of my life watching him

But it’s soooo bad of him to keep pushing this message … I think we’re already seen as having a soft underbelly , a nice club that most other fans like bc we are the good guys

And Benji is a good guy

But his not a killer

Even Bennet is a killer disguised as an old father figure that jokes around with players

I’m worried we’re going to be rocks and diamonds like Benji career was and we will lose galvin if we don’t start well

I hope for benjis sake he’s successful but idk

I guess worse case scenario benji gets punted next year and we lose galvin - but at least benji got us luai and may … and we would never have gotten them without him… and we probably lose galvin anyway bc if luai can’t convince him to stay than I don’t think anyone else could

It’s all upside I guess - but I’m praying for benji - he’s a nice guy and club legend and deserves to have a coaching legacy - but we’ll see
Winning is like losing, in that it’s a temporary thing.
Winning or losing is not as high on the agenda as having the will to win.
Benji’s job should be to focus on building a team of players who have the will to win.
The scoreboard means jack shit in the scheme of things when compared to long term, unshakable, laser beam focused will power. I just wish our boards understood this concept.

When you have a will to win - winning is not temporary.
