Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I wouldn’t worry about all of these clauses reported in the media. It’s a media beat up because we are the tigers. Luai wants to make a difference. If things are shit I reckon he’ll still stay his 3rd year and see how we are. If we haven’t changed in 3 years then there is something really deeper wrong with our club. Remember he signed this contract almost 12 months ago. A lot has changed since then, and to be honest luai’s value has actually gone up with what he did without Cleary, in origin and also winning another comp! The media shouldn’t be writing about the clauses, they should be writing about how much of a bargain the tigers got! But of course they won’t….because we are the tigers!

I think some of the criticisms come from the fact that he doesn’t loiter around the ruck .
Also back up the very next play after being involved on the other side of the field
I thought the criticism came because he always looked to pass rather than run the ball himself. This resulted in some very risky passing inside his own 20m. He appeared to be avoiding the collision. This could change this year after a further preseason, and he might have more confidence in his body strength.

I was with you until you said much has changed since he signed. We got another spoon We’ve made a couple good signings. But nothing changes until we start winning games. Surely everyone knows better by now than to go off early, claiming whole heartedly that we have finally turned the corner before the results even come.

I think Luai's contract is smart for him, not great for us but whatever, sounds like he wanted the same options regardless of who he signed with.

Right now no one is sure when the new teams will come in and the increase to the salary cap that would follow.

I think Luai just wants to make sure he is paid. My guess is once the salary cap increase is locked in he'll either renegotiate a bigger contract with us and possibly more years or he'll leave cause someone offers him crazy money.

Either way, there will be nothing happening in 2025 besides focusing on winning games.

Why is everyone so positive about luais clauses on here
There’s no positive at all to him leaving. I’ve read comments like “If he leaves after two years than he’s obviously not done his job”. Seriously? If a half coming off four consecutive premiership wins comes here and fails, it says more about the club than the player. Especially when you look at the long list of players that have come here in the past and failed. Luai would just be a new low. And idk where the club would go if he doesn’t work out. We’ll see though.

I hear this theory a lot, that Bula doesn't get involved enough. He was 22nd in the entire comp in runs. He aint lazy.
Yes, he doesnt shirk his work in attack. He averages 18 runs per game and just over 160m per game. His linebreak totals arent great but his tacklebreaks are pretty good. His linebreak assists are adequate but his error totals need to decrease. His player in support stats are really good...top 10 in the comp with all 9 in front of him playing more games, yet not being out of touch.

His defence though - especially his ability to read the play and organise it is sub par. That comes with the territory of him not coming through the pathways correctly. He is great at running down someone who has broken the line, however his positioning when opposing kicks and ballplaying in the 20m zone are not great. He is however quite good under the highball. It needs to be acknowledged that he has been our fullback during 2 of our worst defensive seasons in our history....'23 was our 6th worst ever and '24 was our actual worst ever. Theres plenty of work to do in this area, especially organising a defensive line and honing his anticipation skills.

All up Id have him top 8 fullbacks for attack, down the bottom for defence and that would position him somewhere from 10th to 15th overall. The guy has a high ceiling though if we can get some specialist training done with him. Whatever happened to Greg Ingliss helping out?

Like if the tigers got another wooden spoon everyone would be saying it’s good because it makes us stronger lol

It’s sh’t

We’re sh*t

he wanted the clauses bc we suck and he wants an exit plan if it goes to sh*t

The end.
People are desperate and Luai's signature brought hope. The majority have gone all in on Richo and Jarome being the saviours.

If Luai wanted to stay but also increase his contract, we may have been able to guarantee him a percentage of the increased cap. If for example he is on 1.2M of a 9m cap (around 13% I think), then we offer him an increase on the larger cap e.g. 17% of of 11m cap (1.8M).

I think the wriggle room may come back to bite us or at least be a distraction once the 2 years are up.

Just another thing on the Luai clause. It would be one thing if the clause was he had the option to activate the remaining 3 years after 2026, and it’s done. But it seems like it’s a year by year thing. So he could leave anytime, even if it’s in the middle of the season. I doubt it would come to that, but that’s how it comes across to me.
You may be wrong.

There are risks to club and players with every contract - more so with 5 year contracts.
You are either a half glass full or half glass empty - time will tell who is right and no doubt they will be crowing about it either way.

Richo will only hang around if HBG don’t fck it up

I think Richo came in at the last minute

Hard to steer negotiations after they’ve already started

The proof in Richo will be extending galvin

Mind you Richo is top handful of administrators in the game

Not many have taken 3 clubs to premierships and a 4th to a GF

But he’s dealing with a sh*t club

When you’ve got people like julie Romero and burgess blonde wig guitar coach as your bosses - with Lee ego maniac Ferrari driving 6yr old level let me show you what I got from santa for Xmas a new hat … and then Justin dopey loser Ricky gervais from the office still leaking to the media and then Benji I like to have fun Weeeeeee let’s all play in the sand box but also like I’ll dob you into the board if you aren’t serious …

I mean Richo is on a hiding to nothing with this club

Benji was more interested in bringing back the 2005 jersey and dropping a “sick” TikTok than brining spew buckets for the players to vomit up hard work and eat some steel.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Richo is doing his best with the good ship Lolly pop
