Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

What is his defence like? Have to see him defending against men before labelling him ready.
first of all, great attitude. very willing in defensive contact and has excellent technique. lateral movement could be better, but it's not terrible.

Masi's main issue will be making reads when there's NRL-calibre players throwing shapes at him at speeds he's never encountered. in the times I've watched him that's really only been the major issue.

Funny this time 2 years ago most of us were anticipating the signing of Bateman haha
Yes we were all hoping the Raiders version of Bateman would show. Same as we hoped the Broncos version of James Roberts would show and the Raiders version of Joey Leilua and the Penrith version of Staines and Naden and the South’s version of Doueihi and the list goes on. Hoping our new recruits this year break that cycle next season!

Do you just make it up as you go along in the hope that no-one will notice? We had Sezer on the bench in the first game of the season. It's not hard to check: https://www.nrl.com/news/2024/03/12/nrl-team-lists-round-2/
And? He was past it, and it was obvious already in the trials that we had invested too much in Sullivan. It’s not like he had an established halves pairing to usurp. If he was at a club like Melbourne, The Roosters, Parra or the Panthers, he might not have seen first grade till mid season, if it all.

Agree, the hope that a retread can bring old performance that years and health / injury decline just doesnt allow. Typical old WT bargain basement buys in the hope of prev performances

Regarding Makasini, there is at least a chance he will be a teen sensation that is ready to take the NRL world by storm not long after turning 18.
No guarantee this will be the case, but a prior handful of NSW Cup games should be a very good indicator on whether or not he is ready for NRL so soon,
It is good knowing we have kept him in our system to find out.

He played 17 games. The club clearly didn't think they didn't have any options.

Faataape starting, and Kepaoa 18th man in Game 1 says it all about the depth of the squad last season.

Faataape should be nowhere near a Wests Tigers match jersey this season unless there is some sort of injury crisis.
Nothing to do with Galvin.

And they came last.
I don't know what point you're trying to make, though. You said Galvin had to play because there were no options. This isn't true: the expected starting halves were Sezer and Sullivan going into pre-season, and Galvin won his place on merit. If what you're trying to say is that players become the best available option sooner in bad teams than they do in good ones, I mean, yeah - great analysis. What you definitively can't say is what you started with, ie that Galvin had to play because there was no-one else available. I think we're done here. I certainly am.

The point I’m making is that he would not have started or played as many games as he did at this club. Do you think he would have won a starting role any other club I mentioned? The only reason he did here was cos of how weak our options were. What he did with his opportunity is another story.

"The point I’m making is that he would not have started or played as many games as he did at this club."

We'll never know how things would have turned out in another universe.

I feel you are conflating the unknown quantity he was in the pre season to the player he turned out to be. There was even debate between our supporters if he should start. And our halves were average at best. No way was he cracking a starting spot in a side with more qualified halves.

Biggest surprise packet: Another Fainu earns a starting position. Either Sione Fainu -makes the transition to 2nd rows or Latu Fainu -makes the transition to centre

Most improved: Pole, with T.May leading the pack, Pole sets up to the challenge to make a real impact in both attack and defence

Least improved / regression: agree on Alex Twal

Be great to see all three Fainu bros make the 17, somehow.

Don't mind the idea of Latu at centre.
Jamie Lyon - like.

And Sione on the bench, impact player along with Hunt and Pole to really add some punch.

Leo Thompson set to move on from the Knights. Will find out in roughly 10 days time. Any ideas where?
Dog’s would be favourite. Can’t see him at the Roosters (with them releasing May). Saints or Parra will probably put in big $ bids. But I think he’ll end up at the Dogs with them missing out on Jarome Luai and T.May to us.
I can’t see the need for WTs to be going after any more props at that price.
