Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

"The Bulldogs have gone cold on Knights prop Leo Thompson, leaving three to four clubs battling it out for the star front-rower's signature".

Yeah right. Nobody wants 2 take their funny money,
Canterbury Bulldogs have missed ALL of their targets,
can the rugby league media start talking about that...

We're good 4 now. I think there is a possibility that
we free up spots this week, don't assume Sione is
promised 1st spot either if something comes up i.e.
Taylan May/gun 2nd rower he'll be signed up but
might have 2 wait a bit perhaps but he'll get re-signed.

No journo will shit on the dogs while Gus is there. If JAC was at WTs when he failed his drugs test, our culture would be to blame. But no, its a nothing story at the dogs. Protected species.

I wanna read a deep depth double page analysis
on how they've missed all their targets. And the
overall culture of the club with workplace bullying
& mid-season drug use. Laundys finances & Gus'
overeach may have something to do with it, I dunno.

They’ve been signing players left and right for the last 4-5 years. Burton, JAC, Crichton, Kikau, Mahoney etc. I don’t think that story would fly.

Yeah, I'm not talking about the last past 4/5 years,
I see what you're saying but I'm talking about for
season 2025 in particular. As a bottom dwelling club
we managed 2 get Api, Luai, May & everyone they
were targeting too — not to mention they missed
out on Stefano as well. Hunt, Stefano, Thompson,
May, Luai, and Sunia Turuva, all swings & misses...

I will say, they do have good juniors though to be
fair. They're probably waiting on making a big play
4 someone, but 4 who? They've missed every shot so
far & there is no more water left in the bottles so
to speak. I've got them finishing 11-14th maybe
lower — think this year was a flash in the pan 4 them.

Don't underestime how much they wanted & needed
Ben Hunt and a big ticket front rower to round out
their team. Have you seen their forwards? Prop
rotation of Ryan Sutton, Max King, Samuel Hughes
& new recruit Tom Amone ain't putting dents anywhere.

John Bateman released from Wests Tigers to join Cowboys on two-year deal | Market Watch

David Riccio - December 18, 2024 - 10:50AM

John Bateman has played his last game for the Wests Tigers with the English International set to be released with two years remaining on his contract to join the Cowboys.

North Queensland management are poised to sign Bateman on a two-year deal for 2025 and 2026 that will be offset by the Wests Tigers paying a large portion of the deal.

Bateman’s exit from the Wests Tigers after two seasons and 32 first grade appearances has emerged in the wake of head coach Benji Marshall’s staunch denial of a reported rift between him and the English International.

Bateman had intended to resume training with the Wests Tigers at the conclusion of his annual leave in January.

However, the Cowboys are eager for Bateman to commence pre-season training as soon as possible in a bid to both acclimatise to the Townsville weather conditions, but also build a winning connection with his new teammates.

The Cowboys are firm believers the 31-year-old will add a much-needed toughness to their forward pack, while also proving a valuable mentor to the club’s talented batch of younger forwards including Heilum Luki, Reuben Cotter, Jeremiah Nanai and Griffin Neame.

South Sydney had been considering signing Bateman on the basis of his elite-level experience, hard-nosed mentality and likelihood that the Wests Tigers would contribute to a large portion of his salary.

However, those talks fell over, when the Cowboys showed serious interest.

Although contributing heavily to Bateman’s new contract at the Cowboys, his exit will allow the Wests Tigers to create an extra spot in their 2025 roster to promote one of several talented players into their top-30.
