John Bateman #268

Not talking about just the first week, more so the first 6 odd weeks. Had some solid performances in there
Yep fair enough . Maybe I’m a harsh judge. I can’t say I remember 💯, but I remember thinking , when is Sezer back quite often , so I’m going to lean towards disagreeing with you on this one .

I don’t think that Bateman said anything that bad - apparently it was more about the standards not being high enough, especially for young players.
At the same time Bateman had no discipline on field and isn’t a great role model.
I don’t think they had a falling out per se, more that Benji doesn’t think he’s the right fit as a senior player.
Yea it wa probably more the hypocrisy , that would have got him offside with people .
Hard to claim there’s low standards , when you’re one of the leaders who’s supposed to drive standards … lol what are we paying you for ? Because it’s not giving says penalties at crucial times in games , and crabbing across field killing all our momentum .
I think his style will fit the cowboys though, it’s attack at all costs , so his crap across field and straighten up style might sync with them . Their style is definitely closer to the sheens style base , than Benjis is . Payten is 💯 continuing the sheenius legacy . I think Benji probably thought he’d be more that way early on , but he sounds like he’s moving away from that attack at all costs type style as a coach . Really this is probably another tick in the “Benji is too inexperienced “ box , as I don’t think 2025 Benji even looks at Bateman , let alone sign off on him . Regardless off the argument . I’m glad Benji has pivoted to a more defensive focus as a style . It’s going to take you much further in 2025. We just got to hope the guys can execute . I thought they did well when the games were on the line in the first half of the year, and fell away when they were only playing for pride. More wins will equal longer buy in from the players .
I think if Benji does do some good with his coaching career Uncle Wayne will have as much influence as sheens . Hence the more direct style .

I think they to thought he’d provide more senior player value, but as you say he gave away stupid penalties, started fights etc There’s no place in todays game for that as penalties shift momentum, and momentum is decrying.

i think they just thought they’d get more out of him as a senior player. He probably would have done better with a team with better halves, but he was never a guy that was going to get everyone pulling in the same direction when he had no discipline himself.

If anything Payten should've got him for his defense... Their D was the worst of the top eight, conceding almost 24 points per game... Lucky to make the semis with that D

Disappointed that Benji couldn't ground Bateman and get him on song.

If Benji fancies himself as man manager he needs to get guys like this firing.

We don't really have a ready made cover defensive backrower really.

I hear you, but Jhonne is an exception to the rule.
he has some form in that regard with leaving all his
previous clubs. Have 2 draw a line in the sand though,
better 2 pull your own weight than 2 go against the
tide. He gets a massive opportunity with Luki going
down. Payten doesn't suffer fools though — he won't
be chucking anymore tantrums or his career is done

That's true,

Probably will have a simple brief at NQ.

Think last year he and Api discovered that everyone has their limits.

Would've made benji think when Bennett and Todd were after him.

The edges remain a problem.
