That was related to their push for the Magpies to return to the NRL.
Has that been proved? I am just sick and tired of every opportunity being taken to give the Magpies a kicking. If it wasn't for the Magpies, the JV would be financially f...ed. I don't want to see them back as our NRL team. Like Balmain, they were a disaster in the 90s. I'd be happy for the top 3 sides to be WT and both clubs to run their own junior rep sides. I'm just over the Magpies getting a bagging at every turn.

I trust the people that have told me it is true.

If the joint hadn't been a shambles for the last decade or more,
they'd be like every other board - And barely mentioned.

Understand you're over them getting a kicking - Fact is, they own the Wests Tigers,
And the Wests Tigers have been polishing their boots on the fans for a very long time.

Surely it's about their turn isn't it?

I also want to say that this isn't a Magpies v Balmain thing as both are incapable of running a modern professional sporting organisation. HBG and the Magpies are the focal point of this though as Balmain is irrelevant to the conversation as they have no power at all.

Sorry, I don't know them or you so I'd want to see conclusive evidence before I believe that for one moment and so should everyone else on this forum. What I can observe and believe is the Board has performed badly over quite a long period and action needs to be taken to correct this. I'd be happy for all Board members to be turned over and a majority independent Board to be established with governance arrangements that allow Board members to be replaced for poor performance.
Until there is firm evidence that Romero and Burgess are running an agenda seeking to return Wests Magpies to the NRL I choose not to believe it.

Check out the comments

The greater community of NRL fans are sick of hearing about it.
When the worst club in the comp continually hogs the headlines it annoys the crap out of everyone. As a rugby League fan I’m also sick of hearing about this joint.
I’d much prefer to read about clubs who are gearing up to knock Penrith off it’s pedestal. That is the interesting stuff

That is fine.

I signed the petition but i fail to see how it will have any impact on the governance of HBG. Unless the setup is found to be illegal or not meeting The Liquor and Gaming requirements then HBG would have no reasons to change their governance. There would be far more pressure on them to change if this was coming from their 27,000 members.
They somehow have to be forced to fully implement the recommendations of the review. Maybe a similar petition the NRL asking them to force HBG to finalise the review might work - i don't know.

Today we are taking the first step into launching action to change the governance of the majority shareholder of the Wests Tigers, the Holman Barnes Group (HBG).

This action commenced after the HBG board (controlled by Magpies die-hards Julie Romero and Dennis Burgess) dragged its feet over introducing and adopting the full recommendations from the external review into the governance of the Wests Tigers.

We fought so hard for that review in 2023 and it only came about because everyone supported the petition.

This time, we intend to make our action much bigger and louder than the individual supporter groups and we will be working together, all Wests Tigers social and media outlets, to support this action under the banner of ‘Wests Tigers Unite’.

Ahead of this action, we again ask that you take an interest in this important matter as it is the final hurdle in giving the Wests Tigers the ownership and governance that will help the club we all love thrive.

In the coming days, a petition will be added by organisers and I encourage EVERYONE to sign. In a time where the trajectory of our club is in the right direction, the board continues to derail and cause embarrassment to what we are trying to achieve. Any personal issues need to be put aside and collectively, as a fan base, we come together in hopes of a result. A result we all want & need.

I could be wrong,
But I don't feel anyone takes issue with the Governance of the HBG, Or who does it....
It's when the clusterf*ck spills into the WT's boardroom and those same particular incompetent Board members are serving on both Boards - It's not working.

Put Football People on the Football Club board, Let them get the job done
and have them report back to you... Intervene only if it goes bad.
It 'Should' be that easy.

I agree that it should be their members, but there is cross over. I think Rick is following up on members to try to get the board composition changed.

The directors have a fuciary duty to their members and community, which they are ignoring. You can see that here https://www.sport.nsw.gov.au/running-your-club/club-governance/duty-of-care

I believe they are in breach of a, b and c. So I'd say NSW liqour and gaming commission would be very interested in the outcomes of the petition.

I fully support this action.
The Wests Tigers is our nrl team.
We can't forget the wests tigers was born from the union of Wests and Balmain.
And I think most fans of the wests tigers accept the past and embrace the future.
There is just some old facts that can't let go.
Soon enough the old farts will be dead and then the decision makers would have forgotten about the past and think of just the wests tigers.

I'm over Wests Magpies getting a kicking. For a start, Wests Magpies the footy club has absolutely no say or power in this whole cluster f..k. It's the WT board who is the problem. Cochise himself has said that he's been told that Romero and Burgess are pushing for a return of the Magpies. He may or may not be right but, even if he's right, they do not represent the Magpies in any official sense. They are merely Magpie supporters.
As a parallel, Benny Elias has been knocking WT for years but I don't hear anyone saying it's Balmain causing the problem. It's called for what is is, one individual with too much to say.

It's that easy to deflect it all, isn't it.....

I assume the HBG governs the Magpies as well? (There's a direct link between their sites)
And the majority of the Wests Tigers Board are HBG board members?

Why do you continue to blatantly ignore it's the same people?

Most here despise Ben Elias, But he has nothing to do with the Governance of Wests Tigers.
He's nothing but a media mouthpeice, His opinion is no more valid than Paul Kents...
But you hide the failings of the HBG behind him as well....

Like i said in another post - Any chance you blokes ever admit the failings of these people?

Edit:
Burgess is the Chair of the Wests Magpies 'Footy Club'
How does he not represent them - in your opinion?
- In fact 3/4 HBG Members currently in question are represented here also

WSDRLFC BOARD OF DIRECTORS
  • Dennis Burgess (Chairman) - HBG Appointed
  • Stephen Montgomery - HBG Appointed
  • Vince Tropiano - HBG Appointed
  • Michael Liubinskas - HBG Appointed
  • Allan Fallah - FC Member Elected
  • Bob Cairns - FC Member Elected
  • Shannon Cavanagh - FC Member Elected
